  7. California... Crapflinger just suits me (unfortunately)... However, in this case, I am totally serious... when I was buying tools I didn't have the money to blow on a really good hot knife... so I went to Target, bought a weber soldering iron, filed the tip to a nice flat blade, and used it as my "interim" hot knife for the next 6 years... worked nice for my purposes... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  8. I don't know the volumes but a Raven I is the preferred canopy for V2.2. The gear sales idiot where I used to work used to cram Raven Is into V1.2s, and it was obvious that in the long term, the reserve containers were getting spackled, with side flap stiffeners and grommetts looking like a fat guy in a little coat. When we got V2.2s, packing those was like, "ahhhhhhhhhhh" __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  9. I am not sure I get yer post but I am a retired CA rigger __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  10. yeah I know... however, I could swear that I read SOMEWHERE that safety stows were more forgiving in this scenario somehow... I always made mine plenty snug (even allowing for compression over the cycle) but have always wondered if I really needed to be doing it, given the amount of loose stows I would see come in the door... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  11. I was afraid someone at my work blocked the site... which would not look good on my permanent record... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  12. The SHOW is funny as hell and I listen.... Howard Stern himself is: 1) utterly predictable 2) kinda dumb 3) an asshole for using some of the whack-pack people he does, for example Gary the Retard, and that retarded girl who calls in all the time and sings. He uses these people shamelessly. But I still listen... because the show is funny and is basically a buncha people fucking with one another... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  13. yeah, it's piping hot and I just dunk the shit right in... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  14. I'd be interested to hear everyone's thoughts on the following: a) Are safety stows somehow less forgiving of some looseness in the stows as compared to rubber bands? b) Why did Jumpshack make the safety stow an option recently? Opinions on same? c) Anyone habitually tweak out the length of safety stows if they seem "too loose" from the factory (related to a))? I am a rigger and understand the benefits of the concept (i.e. less likely for bag lock on reserve) but have always wondered about downsides (there have to be some). __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  15. So far, nothing at all has happened when I microwave a cup of water for 3 minutes in the morning and then drop my tea bag into it... I am pretty sure that hot water in a cup from a microwave is exactly the same stuff as it is when poured in from a kettle.... am I missing something? __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  16. Is this lava lamp thing some bit of knowledge that EVERYONE knows about but me? With all the "Duhs" and shit, it sounds like there was some crucial nursery rhyme I missed or something... "And then the beautiful goose shook her lava lamp and all her feathers faded and she turned into an ugly lima bean...." __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  17. All the big wax globs turn into about 600 billion little microscopic blobs that fog up the water or whatever is inside... not sure it will ever be the same... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

  20. What are people's thoughts on keeping the reserve lines away from the Cypres box? I always used to go to great pains to keep the lines away from the box, not wanting one or two to get momentarily pinched or caught between the bottom of the box and the pack tray, perhaps setting up some asymmetric line unstowing, tension knot, etc... In retrospect this seems a little lame and HIGHLY unlikely, but I was just curious... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  21. When I learned, the guy who taught me (way back in the day before slinks n junk) was a no - bumper advocate, at least as far as the manual permitted it. So, for Ravens, which I believe the manual did not mention bumpers on the reserve (I could be wrong), we NEVER installed any type of bumper on ravens... Our theory as to why they came with bumpers was that Precision stuck them in everything they sent since it was possible to use as a main as well... PD reserves we did use bumpers because the manual was pretty explicit on the matter. We tacked those down as well.... One thing we did do on the Ravens (and Tempos and Swift and Swift Pus I believe) was take sealing thread and tack all the reserve lines together at the link. The theory is that the most likely way for a link to load up assymetrically and break would be for one line to slide up to one end and the others to stay at the other end (there are some good drawings in the Poynter manual I think). This kept all the lines together and reduced the likelyhood of assymetrical loading... I think tacked bumpers in general could not hurt though.... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?

  24. I think your dad wears top-siders because of all the sailboats he owns... different work environment from me... so, I should go buy a bunch of friggin shoes rather than buy some socks.... obviously I am talking to women... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
  25. No one else here regularly wears sneakers with their jeans... of course everyone else here drives BMWs too, so I guess I better start saving... Most of the business casual shoes I have are OK to wear with Jeans... the whole socks thing was screwing me up.... I would wear the tevas more except my feet get smelly... __________________________________________________ What would Vic Mackey do?
