  1. they don't... they have pilots (you have to take out the word fighter ) they need the pilots to tow the giant white flag over their army. MB 3528, RB 1182
  2. yeah I thought so too. you did forget another one, "When trumpets fade" its pretty new, and its not too bad. it pretty much follows one guy through WWII europe. but i would have to say "saving private ryan" we were soldiers wasn't bad, but i didn't like the music they picked at all. black hawk down had much better music IMO. 3. I've only done black & white when I was developing it myself... and it is fairly easy to do, and you learn a lot. try taking a class at your local college. but anyways, I found that contrast is very important... since a light blue and a light red just look like gray on the photo. afternoon or morning shadows work well for black & white. oh, and black & white work well for "gritty" shots... uhhh like scenes of a decaying inner city that you want to convey an emotion with. filters? the only filters i used was during development... but im sure filters on the lens can do wonders too. 4. I've think that if the people with a tape of a skydiving injury didn't sell it to the shows, we wouldn't have all this negative press. but, something tells me that isn't gonna happen. MB 3528, RB 1182
  5. so if you are near the hill, you'd pull your reserve at 3k? what altitude do you normally pull at on a normal skydive? don't forget, your main will probably open in less altitude during an aircraft emergency, so if you normally pull at 3.5k, you might be in the saddle at the same altitude as if you pulled right out the door in an aircraft emergency of 3k. but to answer the orginal question, below 1500 ft I'd go for silver. 6. I'm hoping to be jumping in something similar to that this weekend... we have about a foot of snow and a few more inches tomorrow.... I wanna try landing in a foot and half of snow. oh yeah and a saturday high of 23 F! nice and sunny. MB 3528, RB 1182
  7. 1st skydive? "No Leaf Clover" by Metallica... especially the part that goes "good day to be alive, sir... good day to be alive!!!" MB 3528, RB 1182
  8. you gotta be sh*tting me!! that will be fast. I've also heard mullins king air's engines can go faster, but it would damage the air frame. MB 3528, RB 1182
  9. don't forget to search first. I found these threads in safety and training in like 3 minutes. sorry if i sound harsh, but this topic is like RSL vs no RSL... its a been debated to death. there is a lot of good information in these threads: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=400383;search_string=static%20line%20aff;#400383 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=244000;search_string=static%20line%20aff;#244000 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=399588;search_string=static%20line%20aff;#399588 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=186164;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; MB 3528, RB 1182

  13. static line students diving out backwards?? I did S/L progression and we sat in the door, never thought of diving out with S/L , maybe something to try also this weekend
  14. you're not the first one to pack an altimeter in there. a few weeks ago, im jumping at a different DZ, doing 4 way and the other 3 are telling me to get on the plane. i tell them i can't find my altimeter, and one of them gives me one to borrow, and says that he'll help me look for it once we get down, and that hes sure its just laying around somewhere. you guessed it, when i open at 3000, i spot something small fly by me and land in a forest. a $115 doller jump for me that day. hate winter?

ugh dont remind me. hey, but its supposed to be sunny on saturday... are we gonna jump? I think it would be cool to land in 18 inches of snow. with that much padding, you wouldn't even need to flare MB 3528, RB 1182
  16. what you are describing is basically the static line exit. just jump out, belly into wind, head up, and hard arch while you deploy. a little bit harder without the strut to help, but we have hundreds of these exits every year at our DZ with no major problems. MB 3528, RB 1182
  17. ok I guess I haven't seen enough reserve pilotchutes and freebags then. My old school javelin has a white one, and the only other ones I've seen was a yellow one, and another white one. and yes, I know its not hard to keep an eye on a white pc, but if you were to cutaway above a town, it would be nice to be able to look for a landing area instead of watching your stuff all the time. besides, the orange color can't hurt. Do the new Javelins use orange reserve pcs/freebags? MB 3528, RB 1182

    Coffee

Ditto here. Coffee is YUCKY! I second that. geez if you all want caffiene, just take a NoDoz and a coke. wakes you up without bitter flavors and scalded tongues. MB 3528, RB 1182
  19. didn't anybody actually get this was a joke???? people, how could you possibly read all the way through it, and not realize that it was a joke? even if you missed the disclaimer at the beginning, its written so you know that they made it up. that being said, it wouldn't surprise me if somebody ends up doing this for real. MB 3528, RB 1182
  20. Hey I have always wondered this: Why don't parachute makers make the reserve pilotchute and freebag orange? Wouldn't that make the job of finding them much easier if someone were to have a cutaway? Its not like we could complain about the color, since normally nobody sees it. And I imagine orange fabric could not be that much more expensive then whatever they use now. edited for spelling MB 3528, RB 1182
  21. speed of sound at sea level: 761 mph speed of sound at approx 40k ft: 660 mph looking at a few websites, I finally found one that has a non-bugged speed of sound calculator. http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/atmosphere/q0102c.shtml but it appears as though the speed of sound at 100k ft, where that other guy jumped from, is 675 mph., so it doesn't vary uniformly with altitude.
