My DZ pays $70 to the tandem master if he has his own gear. After a year of doing tandems, he paid off his tandem rig plus some. So overrall its better to get your own rig MB 3528, RB 1182

The Kansas City Skydiving Center

I would be interested in seeing what really was said at the harrison meeting. If anyone gets a transcript could they please post it? I did talk to someone who was there, and they were pretty disgusted with some of the stuff being said by experienced jumpers there. I'm sure if anyone has a copy of a video of the meeting, someone on here would let you upload it somewhere so we could all see it. MB 3528, RB 1182 -
Whats your little handshake before you leave the plane?

I love going to a new DZ because they always have some different one then my home DZ. So I gotta fumble through it till I learn the new one. We need to standardize the manuever to increase efficiency in the plane! MB 3528, RB 1182 -

I think his point isn't that they lack certain facilities, so much that they're lying in their advertising about what facilities they do have. I would agree with him on that. Their website makes false claims about what they have. However, I'm sure many of the existing DZs around that area also have false claims all over their websites. Is putting false stuff on your website ok? No. Is it common in skydiving? Yes. Does it mean the DZ should be shut down? No. MB 3528, RB 1182 -
I went there with a big group, and had a great time there. The DZO made sure that we were having plenty of fun, he even fired up the skyvan twice for us (on a wednesday and a thursday no less) so we could get our raft dive in! Also their pilots had no problems with giving go-arounds if you didn't like the spot... I've had a lot of bad experiences at other DZs where a go-around request meant lots of cursing by the pilots, and this was nice to see them not mind at all. The windtunnel being 100 yards away was great. They also have a nice bar and grill, a gear store, and a good rigging loft onsite. The bar has a TV linked to the tunnel so you can watch your friends do the tunnel while you drink a beer. The grass landing area is not particularly big, but its not too terrible. If you land even 50 yards off though, they have a pickup truck outfitted with a couch to pick up jumpers all day. We stayed at the house listed on their website... we were incredibly surprised by how nice it was. Well furnished and clean. It's easily worth it to stay there, especially if you are in a big group and can book the entire thing. The only problem I had with them was the packing area. Its not a waterproof area, so if it rains it means you have to pack around puddles. If you go, be prepared to get dust or mud all over your gear. The area all around the grass landing strip is dusty, so even if you land on the grass, the dust gets on you. And the outdoor packing area gets pretty dusty because of that. If its raining, the dust becomes mud. The part of Perris the DZ is in is pretty dismal... no bars, restaurants, or gas stations for miles and miles. Oh yes, the Load Organizers there were awesome. They always had one or two working, even during the weekdays, and they organized a lot of fun jumps, and gave me some good tips on my freeflying. Thanks again Jon, Alex, Conzalez, and Enrico. We had a lot of fun there, definetly check them out.

for sure the tunnel is not the same as skydiving IMHO. For one thing, there is no wall and door in skydiving that causes burbles. We were turning peices in the tunnel and when we got close to the walls or the doors, we would feel the difference. Especially sitflying without a rig on. People's rigs tend to catch a lot of air. So people have to learn to fly a different position in the air then in the tunnel. Is the tunnel a great tool? Yes. Is it the same as skydiving? No MB 3528, RB 1182

its there so the movie companies can make money off 9/11. I'm sure they will toss a few million to the families, but they are eagarly awaiting lots of money. MB 3528, RB 1182

Drop Zone Ethics - 101 (In Kansas City)

A. K-State pays nothing towards DZ operations or money. They only give us a "travel to competition budget" that CAN'T be spent on anything except airline tickets or rental cars. B. $20 a semister actually to stay in the club, or $40 a year C. We aren't scared of the new DZ because we know we will get plenty of students due to our low training costs (the cheapest in the midwest). Also, many of our experienced jumpers will stay because we have a good vibe at our DZ. We have nothing to fear from this new DZ... many of our jumpers have already gone to try them out, and we didn't "make them grovel back" If you think this new DZ is crap, let people go and find out for themselves, and if they prefer your DZs over it, they will stick with you won't they? But you are afraid that your DZs are lacking... and so you lash out. MB 3528, RB 1182 -

I agree. If the MRVS DZ is sooooo great, continue to jump there. And if its soooo wonderful, then the old DZOs have no fear of others leaving it right? oh thats right, the old DZs are scared of the new. And thats why you are very pubicly and very childishly bashing the new DZ. because you are scared it might be better then yours right? I'm all for the new DZ, and I'm the vice president of the KSUPC DZ. We have jumpers in kansas city and topeka that jump at our DZ... might we lose them? of course. but should that mean I should whine, bitch, and threaten? grow up. edit (I quoted cspence's post, but i am not refering to him... i am refering to jumper410 when i say "you") MB 3528, RB 1182 -
you can buy even smaller rubber bands then what you see at the DZ. Office supply store online usually has several different sizes of those types of rubber bands. MB 3528, RB 1182

I'm laughing my butt off about this thread. Skydivers acting like children. It sounds like the new DZ had a good time. A lot of my friends went, I stayed behind due to lack of $$$. They all had a good time, and really enjoyed the otter. I'm sure the "other DZ" people had fun too... now they please keep their boogie info in the other thread?!? MB 3528, RB 1182

I haven't gotten to see a student Wings in person so far. Do any DZs use them? And how does the students and instructors like them? Are they better or worse then other student rigs you've used? I'm especially interested in them being set up for static line... anybody used them this way? And to be clear, I am refering to STUDENT Wings. That means they are set up for Static line or AFF. I'm not talking about the standard Wings. MB 3528, RB 1182

My sister is getting married this summer, and she wants me to be an usher. What does that mean I do? I've been to like 2 weddings in my life. I don't have to do anything like the best man does, right? i.e. organize stuff, or pay for stuff, or give toasts. oh and do I have to hang out with the groom or anything like that? He's a nice guy to my sister, but I think hes an asshole and he thinks the same of me. MB 3528, RB 1182

The first shipment of KSUPC jumpers from kansas will be arriving sometime tomorrow morning. We will get a total of 11 in by this weekend. We will show you not all kansas/missouri area skydivers like to bicker and fight. Some of us just like to drink and jump. You'll recognize us pretty easily... look for the skydivers staring in awe at turbines... all of us gearing up at 9.5k because "its almost jump run right?" anyways we hope to jump with some of you. maybe some big hybrids or tracking dives or something.
