Ok but do you think you are better qualified to make that assumption than a guy that had never served? I think you are due to you having experiences closer to the event. A guy that has trained to fight, but never did is better qualified than a guy whos only uniform worn was a Boy Scout uniform and the one at MacDonalds. But much more qualified to make choices based on training that you would have recieved in the military or in the police force right? I think its a little of both. Now I do believe that if he had military or police training he would have a better grasp of the real world benefits of profiling...(Notice I didn't say shit about race...I said Profiling which could include race, but not totally). I would not say better...I would say that those that did serve (including you) are better to make comments about the service, and issues relating to the service than those that never did, or that never served but watched "Rambo" a bunch. Just like the fact that you served during a conflict makes you better prepared to comment on actually being in a fire fight than me, who never had to actually pull the trigger. But many times here people don't seem to respect the experiences of those that have actually DONE what they are commenting about..Be it jumps, or combat choices. I find that funny. As for do I think I am a better person because I have served? Good question. I am a better person than if I had never served. I do think that most should serve. And I think that most would benefit from an enlistment. I do think that those that have served do know more about serving/warfare/duty ect than those that never did serve. But they would rather say I was just "indoctrinated"...Well if my indoctrination taught me duty and honor...Well more should do it. I have no clue.... The number of jumps becomes less important the more you get. When you have one its a big deal... You gladly tell everyone you have X jumps till you get around 50...Then when you have 56 you say 60, when you have 53 you say 50. After you get 100, you only go by tens...I have 120 jumps instead of saying I have 122. By the time you get over 500-600 and you go by 50's Over 1,000 you go by hundreds. Over 2 grand you go by 500's. Does it REALLY matter a guy has 2500 as opposed to him having 2400? Nope. But 100 jumps is a big difference when you only have 500 total. For me I slowed my logging down when I was organizing....Most organized jumps sort of blend together...I tried to log the whole day at a time, but you forget if you made 5 or 6 or 12...So sometimes you just skip it. After awhile it really does not matter to you anymore. Now I only log tandems, competitions, and training. The occasional fun jump does not make it into my logbook. I wish I knew exactly, but its been so long since I had an accurate count there is really no point. Yep, but just cause I do it does not make it smart. You can understand the risks and still do something that is stupid. Agreed, and as I said to Bill in a PM...I would have never done it if some guy had not have said how cool it would be if a guy did it when I had around 100 jumps....That voice stuck in my head and sure enough as soon as I had the chance I went after a freebag....Stupid idea, but I pulled it off. Actually we were talking about Profiling....You brought race into it. You see I mentioned both white and black kids....But you didn't bother to pay attention to that. Well I don't want to take away OR give someone something they didn't earn based on race. To me that is racism. However I don't have a problem with a cop using someones apperance (Notice not RACE..color of skin is just one small part of apperance) to look into a situation more as long as its legal. I would not support a guy getting arrested just cause he was black/white/hispanic..ect, But I don't have a problem with them being questioned. Like I said Profiling works.
