  1. I can think of several that do... Pitts Special for one. A Pitts is a typical aircraft. Wings engine, the whole bit. But if you want to play stupid games, do you consider a Bonanza something atypical? Not getting into another definition pissing match. You win. A Pitts is just like every other airplane, as typical as it could be. 1. You are trying to get into a pissing match.. The proof is in your posts. May I remind you that YOU replied to me and started trying to play stupid games. The question is why you feel you need to act like that... Not that I personally care. 2. You ignored what I actually wrote... I wrote 'several that do' and used a Pitts as an example. You then ignored the Bonanza... I could bring several more examples, just like I claimed, like a Swift. So yeah, you do try to start little pissing matches and you don't even bother to read or understand the post you reply to. 5. Not a physics professor, but I'll give this a shot. We know a wing stalls when the angle of attack exceeds the critical angle and that is when the boundary layer separates from the rear portion of the wing and drag becomes greater than the lift. My guess as to why it is more pronounced when using rear risers has to do with how much the angle of attack is changed between the two control inputs. Someone already touched on this when they stated that "because of the difference in how the canopy is distorted by the different control input". You see, the toggles are attached to the very back of the canopy and when you pull them down you only really pull the rear of the canopy down... In some ways making the wing distort more almost acting like a flap and reducing stall speed due to the increase in airfoil. But when you use rear risers you are changing the angle of attack at a much more drastic rate without any benefit of a change in airfoil. So with rears you need less input to get more angle of attack change. The RATE of change should not matter much in this case. A dynamic stall can occur if you quickly change the angle of attack but I don't think that is the case with rear riser stalls here. There are high speed stalls and accelerated stalls... But these are the result of increased "G" forces basically increasing the wingloading and thereby reducing the angle of attack that the wing will stall at. I think our rear riser canopy stalls are more a factor of reaching the critical angle of attack with less room for error, and with no "flap" effect that the toggles give you. Of course... Like I said, I am not a physics professor and I could be WAY wrong. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  6. CYPRES2. I had a C1 till it timed out. I thought long and hard about which one I would buy and I decided the C2 was better simply because the Vigil has too many accidental fires for my taste. Actually, I was offered a great deal on the Argus... Glad I skipped that one as well. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  7. Yes, but with the full face you can't see the panic look on my face In truth, this was taught to me back in the 90's by Aggie who works at Sunpath. He used to do it all the time and until then I had no idea it could be done. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  8. If you are properly wingloaded it is not a big deal. For the record 95+% of my langings under my sport main are on rears only.... The only times I don't land on rears are when the wind is gusty/bumpy or I bail out onto toggles. 9. When you troll 99% of the time, expect to be treated like a troll all the time. You don't get to act like an ass 99% of the time and then suddenly cry that when YOU want to be serious others don't take you seriously. Here is a thought.... Stop acting like a troll and maybe then people will treat you seriously. I have moved on... I have decided that you are not to be taken seriously based on your past performance. Therefore, I am not going to "feed the troll" even when he seems to be genuine. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  10. The poster has a solid track record of being a troll.... So while he might not be acting that way right here, right now.... But your track record has a way of following you. So when he acts like a troll 99% of the time and then tries to be serious, well, you can expect that some people are just not going to believe him. 11. Bill Dause, hands down. Not so.... I would rank the idiot in Oregon #1 of all time. Can't remember the name right now. He's not a DZO anymore. 20/20 had a feature story on him years ago. The stuff that came out of that was appalling. He is not a DZO anymore. That leaves Dause in the top spot. 12. Oh and like someone else already said... Key it and it will stop. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  13. As someone already said... Tail is late. Point is also early and that is not helping. Tail should try to drop down and out, point should be the last person on the plane. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  14. And yet you approve of the Govt being involved in your health care - Funny. Simple fact is that the USPA didn't act for YEARS until the FAA warned us that they were paying attention to us. Airports that don't want skydiving will use "landing issues" as the excuse unless the FAA has a standard. But the USPA does not want to follow the FAA standard on this case (which seems to be the USPA standard anyway), yet ignore the FAA standard in other areas - Again, funny. 15. When the USPA starts listening to the FAA on other issues, I might start to give a crap about the USPA's opinion on the FAA's opinion. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

  19. Its BOTH. You said you didn't know of an accident caused by the HC and he showed you some. It IS a distraction and it DOES add to the complexity. There is little difference to the added stress of adding a HC to a TI than there is to add a camera to a helmet. BOTH add stress and complexity, BOTH have contributed to accidents, BOTH can be done safely. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  20. Handcam has issues, but they can be controlled. I personally don't have any issue jumping a HC. I think the video is pretty good or I would not do it. The opening and under canopy stuff is GREAT. And yes, the pay dos not hurt. But we run so many specials that most jumps I get paid like 10 bucks to do it. 23. No, because the defintion of a demo has 'at other than a normal DZ'. A DZ is not a demo because it is a normal DZ. But the same reasons this kid slammed in can happen at a demo (read not at a DZ no matter how large the landing area) or at a new DZ. unfamiliar area and a desire to impress. I have carted jumpers off of a DZ because they wanted to 'Go big on the pond'. I fail to see your issue with calling this jump a demo; It was a demo. It may have not been for pay, but the same factors are at play - Unfamiliar landing area and a desire to perform. Has this kid hooked into the ground at the DZ? If not, then location and mindset needs to be considered. And yes, any jump at a non-familiar location needs to be treated as a demo. I took 4 people into a 600 acre farm with an open landing area that was at least as large as Zhills. I still gave a demo brief and still didn't let just anyone on the load. The attitude of, "This is not a demo" is exactly the wrong attitude to have here. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  24. As with everything in skydiving.... Unusual is a leading cause of accidents. So never do more than one new thing at a time. Also anytime you do something new, dial back your skydiving plans. For example, don't jump a new suit with booties and the full face helmet at the same time. Jump one till you are comfertable with it (could be one jump, could be 10 or more) then add the next new thing. Maybe try a solo or a two way when you get your new helmet, and not join that zoo load 10 way. Unusual situations are dangerous. So dry run putting on and operating the helmet on the ground. You should be able to put it on and open and close the visor without issue while sitting on your couch watching the TV before you should even attempt it on the plane or under canopy. Each second you fuss with the helmet under canopy is a second you are not paying attention to where you are flying. Messing with the helmet in the plane before exit might distract you from some other important task.... Just read up on all the video guys that have been messing with their camera and forgot to bring a rig to the plane... And yes, people have died due to that. Be aware that helmets can fog. Breathe in through your nose and out your mouth and in most cases it goes away. But twice I have had to take my helmet off while under canopy to see. This might be too much task loading for a person with a few jumps.... So: 1. Know the helmet. Be able to operate it on the ground quickly before you ever plan on jumping it. 2. Don't change your other routines... Don't allow yourself to be rushed. 3. Start small solo's or two ways. 4. One new thing at a time. 5. Breathe in through your nose out through your mouth. 6. Ask your local instructors, you don't know me. So take my 'advice' and their 'advice' and make your own choices... Personally, I would go with the most restrictive advice given. If they say you can do that zoo load on the first Juno with the helmet... I'd listen to me and do two ways or solos at first.
