Learning the proper may to spot at 4 is easier...But if you don't do it you will not be able to spot from 10. And in my student program as soon as the SL was gone they were spotting. It started with them giving me the commands and me giving them to the pilot...Then them giving them to the pilot and me conferming them...To finnaly they were spotting at altitude on their own....For the last dive with me I told them if they spotted me off, I'd fail them (I was kidding and they knew it). But I made it a large part of a students needed skills...Canopy control also..If you could not stand up, I would have a hard time letting you continue till the problem is fixed. How can someone have 500 jumps and not be able to stand up? Don't get me started on packing....Anyone that learned from me can pack. You have plenty of time to fix it....more than you need. The AFF I is not there to skydive for you. Do you know the SL program? You don't get to go to freefall till you have good exits. I find it worse to take a guy and put him into freefall without a sure fire no fail deployment method till they prove they can. See Static line they WILL have a deployment, AFF you are expecting them to pull, or you are betting that someone else will pull. SL they WILL be mechanicly deployed till they show they can deploy. You learned air skills...Which is the least important part of skydiving. Not dying will allow you to jump and learn those skills...Also like I said no one seems to go out and try to learn to spot..But they spend thousands on coaching, tunnel ect. With jumps freefall skills will come, without spotting practice spotting skills will not. Do you know how to spot? Do you REALLY know how to spot? No offense, but unless you have done it 20-30 times I doubt it. The ISP tried that. Some places have great Student programs...Other programs suck. Harder than most AFF grads can do. The lessons learned at 4 grand carry to 15. If you don't know how to spot from 4, you have no chance at 15. Well it is a factor of single exits out of whatever plane you are flying. I had my students start spotting on jump #2. Bt the time the program was done they had learned to spot from either 10 or 13 grand. AFF does not do this...Plus I had the student through 12-18 jumps. AFF can be done in 7-9. Intent is a lot. If I accidentaly kill someone, I am not charged with murder. If I have some DNA floating around, and some crazy uses a turkey baster to get pregnant...It was not ME that got her pregnant. I can understand the need to support the child...However what this woman did was criminal in my opinion. She took something offered and used it in a way that it was not intended when it was given. Then she is asking for him to pay for the result of her actions using the material against the intended purpose. Improper is expecting a guy to pay for a kid that he did NOT produce. His act resulted in a situation that in NO WAY would produce a child. Her actions were above and beyond what would normally happen. Making him pay for her actions is improper. You have to define "better". AFF is great if you have to learn right now! It has a very heavy focus on air skills, but in most cases it seems to leave out some canopy control, spotting and low exits. SL is great for canopy control, spotting, and I have yet to see a student be afraid of a low exit like I have seen some AFF's students do. It takes longer, but time spent on a DZ can be a good thing. I would put an average SL students spotting and canopy control skills up against most AFF students with the same number of jumps. The AFF guy will most likley have better air skills. The thing is that spotting and canopy control will save your life...Points in time will not. Also, most people after the graduate really try and improve air skills...Most never try to learn to spot or work on flying a canopy better. So if I had to pick one....It would be SL. This is a hot topic, and now I will be yelled at by a bunch of folks that think AFF is better...Most of them learned AFF and have never seen a SL jump made. Either program will teach you what you need to know to survive....I think the SL program does a better job of focusing on the important things that most ignore later. Back when SL was the only way to learn...People knew how to spot...Today people just look for a green light. I have heard of a csae like the one you were on....I *Think* it was a case in the US however. The outcome was the same. The problem is after the fact. Once the woman has already become pregnant you can't force an abortion, and in this case she had already given birth. The only real problem I have is that the courts granted her request for child support?!?!?
