Being a little hard on them. Maybe this is too close to home for you. Before people jump my shit, I knew Gus and know Buchmann. Bill was flying a plane that hit a person under canopy. Accident? YES. But a person under canopy has the right of way being that they are less able to get out of the way than a plane. If the police think that the pilot was acting in a reckless manner they ask the DA to bring charges. If the police do not know better they would rather mess up and ask the DA to bring charges than do nothing and maybe let a criminal escape. Not saying Bill is guilty of anything. In fact he is one of the few pilots I trust 100%. Do you really expect a cop who has no interest in skydiving of flying to know all they need to know about flying? Many people on here making comments of how "stupid" the police are are not much more trained or knowledgable in aircraft ops than the police. Most are just knee-jerk reacting and jumping to defend a friend or fellow airman. Yet they claim the cops who are trying to do their job are "stupid". Do I think Bill is guilty of anything? NOPE. Do I think the police are trying to do their job? YEP. Do I think that some people need to relax and trust that if Bill is innocent, he will be found innocent? YEP. The cops are just trying to do their job and knee-jerk reactions yelling the cops are stupid don't help. I like SL jumpers better than know it all 16 jump wonders. Does the smiley make it OK mods? Shesh. The funny thing is I bet half the folks that bash the SL system have no clue about the SL system. Saw one of these and loved it. Flew one and loved it more. MUCH easier than a normal heli to fly and a good deal as well. I mean REALLY easy to fly, fun as hell. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLH1200 "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Yeah, thanks. The only problem with that kit is it has a square fuse. Mark at RT said they are working on a newer larger one, but they have not done anything with it yet. I still may get this one, but it will have to wait till I am in my house. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Where did you get the TO kit? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

If they read anything else in the same post they will see the entire post is against that very thing. Worse than just relying on the RSL or AAD? Saying something is dumb is not encouraging it. But it is clear that there are some that should not jump. They will get the wrong idea no matter what is said. But that does not mean we should encourage it. Where did she get that bit of info? From folks like you. You have 500 jumps and to someone with

Please see the CYPRES save thread on this very forum. Maybe they heard an advanced jumper say, "I treat the Reserve handle as a backup". And they ignored the part about pulling it anyway since its only a backup. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
I don't think you are really, but I don't think Pilotdave is either. However, here is the problem. A low timer reads "I consider the ripcord to be a backup to the RSL". And they take from that that the RSL should deploy the reserve. Then we have people like the lady in the CYPRES save thread in this same forum. Its not about the facts here (you are both 100% that the RSL should beat any jumper to the Reserve pull). But it is about what we STRESS as important. A newer jumper might just depend on the RSL and when it does not do the job freak out and then its up to the AAD or the ground to stop them. Like I said just read the CYPRES save thread for an example. I think we should stress saving your own life and that all these great devices are backups to YOU, not the other way around. That way when we fail the device might save us. Not when it fails we might save ourselves. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

I almost put my Shogun Heli in today. Its a little windy and I was at the far end of the field. I put in in a slow turn back to me and I guess I over did it with the back preasure to slow it down...The wind caught it and started to blow it back (I guess I caught under the disk and it pushed it back?) Anyway I put the power to it and pushed it forward...I then pulled back to climb out and I missed a tree by a foot or two. Spent the rest of the Batt just hovering. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
Then what did he mean? The fact the AD was Pre CYPRES does not change the AD's meaning one bit. It talks about deviced dependancy and not relying on a device to do something for you. That STILL is an issue as other threads clearly show. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

You say this and yet you defend Pilotdaves stance on RSL's "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Then please tell me how it is relevant based on his stance? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

And is these silly semantics that lead new jumpers to pull the cutaway and think the reserve will fire when they have a total. "The RSL is the PRIMARY" "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
I am gonna end this. I think your attitude is dangerous. People have died thinking like you. for your sake I hope your RSL never fails. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
Great so in your world we get rid of the reserve and replace it with an AAD. Hey we can also get a main AAD so we can get rid of a pilot chute! So you want to breed MORE dependant jumpers? There are several threads on here where dependant jumpers died. (Try Perris CYPRES set at home for one). Jeeze. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
That is at least well thought out. That is dangerous thinking. Your energy should be on stopping the skydive, and that means reserve pull not cutaway. While not shocked that some think this way, I am amazed that some claim that device dependacy does not exist. I would BEG you to rethink your labeling of the reserve handle as secondary back to primary. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
Wow not even hiding the attacks? You claim that the fact the AD was pre CYPRES means that it is not correct. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
-
You see nothing wrong with putting the RSL above the reserve pull? You do know that people have died when they thought that way right? It AMAZES me how some people think. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

The long octo is better, but what harm is there to knowing buddy breathing? Consider having/knowing BOTH. VS just the Octo. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
