The new Javelin's have velcroless reserve toggles. Some photos here: http://www.chutingstar.com/archives/00000129.html Wings technically has no velcro on its reserve toggles, but it still has a velcro cover for the brake-toggle lines and covering the top of the toggle. Mike ChutingStar.com

The Core does have an altimeter only mode, barometic/weather-mode and automatic mode (switch back/forth). You can set in either of those three. I put it in the altitude chamber with a Digitude and T6 Suunto. I tried both the altimeter only mode and the automatic mode. I didn't see a difference in either mode for climb to altitude (20,000 feet), freefall and canopy. All three were within 100-200 feet of each other all the way up/down. FWIW, the manual makes it seem there could be issues in certain situations with the automatic mode, so I would keep the Core in the altimeter mode for skydiving. But in my few tests today, I saw no issue with either mode. Hope that helps, Mike ChutingStar.com

I've got several in the shop and will check out the switching mode you are talking about on the Core...that's news to me. We sell the the Vector, Observer, Core and X10 to skydivers, and have found the the altimeters accurate on each. But let me see if I can get some more info specifically on the Core for you. You'll have to send an e-mail here: sales@Square1.com Request a catalog and then you can read the article once it arrives. I don't think their hook knife article is online. Mike ChutingStar.com

Attached is a photo of a FlatLock we just mounted on an Optik here in the shop a few weeks ago. It's a tight fit for sure, but no problems screwing into a flat spot. Mike ChutingStar.com

tools needed to install cutaway on FF3

FWIW, Cookie sends it helmets out with the cutaway system pre-installed. And so does Rawa. Mike ChutingStar.com -
http://cookiecomposites.com/shop/Accessories/35/index.htm Cookie sells the Vert Glove without the glove...camera condom only. I can't remember the exact price right now, but I think about half of the listed price of the full glove. Mike ChutingStar.com

Suunto's do update fast enough for skydiving. I've been using one as my primary visual altimeter for years without issue. To demonstrate to a local instructor last week, I put a Neptune2 and a Suunto in an FXC altitude chamber I have in the loft and took it up to 14,000 and then down to zero at freefall speed. The Neptune2 was dead-on with the altitude chamber altimeter and the Suunto ranged from dead-on to lagging by 50-100 feet in freefall. The Suunto was dead-on at slower rates (under canopy). So this was well within what I would think to be acceptable limits for skydiving. Mike ChutingStar.com

Argus actually has no set lifetime. It is considered airworthy as long as it passes each 4-year functional test. The 4-year functional test will be completed at 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, etc... from date of manufacture. Mike ChutingStar.com

The Dolphin's cutaway cable housing on the wearer's left side is routed under the reserve risers to the inside. I'll see if I can find a photo or diagram tomorrow...or take a photo. By the way, Mike Furry of Altico will usually answer his phone on the weekends too. Mike ChutingStar.com

No Cookie Blackbox for it. RAWA makes a box for the Canon HV10...but as the post above states, it won't do you any good. The camera doesn't work for skydiving. Mike ChutingStar.com

The Rawa Image is the original Rawa camera helmet with the fabric forehead and a "neutral" flattop angle for the top-mount. This helmet can be setup for belly-flying or free-flying camera angles. The Rawa Vision is the company's newest shell design, which brought the shell down around the forehead and added a flat spot for a CamEye II button install. It also has the flattop at a straight-ahead angle and is better suited for freefly angles on the camera positioning. With the Vision, the company also released its cutaway chincup, which is a small piece of webbing to pull on to disengage the chincup ratchet in an emergency. Both helmets have the same padding. The Vision helmet version added an XXL size. Most skydivers rave about the Rawa's comfort. The boxes are riveted onto the helmets if ordered as a unit, so it makes changing the box out more of an effort if you switch camera's later. Mike ChutingStar.com

Will Slinks work OK with Dacron lines?
chutingstar replied to skydiverek's topic in Gear and Rigging
If the Slink bumer was inverted, how come the Slider ws able to touch the Slink? Did the slider go OVER and down the Slink cover, and then touched the Slink? The Slink cover is fairly flismy (type III tape) and made to cover the top of the riser and hold in the Slink tab & keep slider up. So when you turn it upside down, the slider just squishes it down flat against the riser allowing the slider grommets to still rub against the Slink. Mike ChutingStar.com
