I would recommend the search function... :P I'm in the same boat really as far as wondering which lens I should get. I think I've narrowed it down between the Raynox 3032 or a Century .55 but even that I'm not super sure about... :P It comes down to this. You've got a HD camera so you should be using glass that's good with HD. If you don't care about the HD, you probably should have bought a used cheapo off of ebay but you didn't so the options are in the range of quite a few. It all depends on how wide you want the video. If you fly TIGHT then you could get away with a .3 or go as high as a .7 It comes down to personal preference and not so much what type of filming you'll be doing. I haven't out ruled that option. If I can't find a way to do it myself then that's what I'm going to do. Sweet! Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

It's not that I'm whining... If I have to... I have to... But, Do I have to? I'm a skydiving instructor in the midwest that makes his living skydiving. My season is pretty much over. I made $95 this week. I've got like 3K in the bank that will have to get me through til the season starts up again. I'm sure it will be fine, however you can probably see where I consider $65 to be a lot of money. If there's a way I can do it for say $20 and save $45 and end up with a comparable product then I'd like to do that. I don't consider it so much whining as being frugal. I'm in no hurry. My current BH Optic has been serving me well for the past 7 years and I have no complaints. I've just heard the FTP was a better platform for those of us using them to make a living so I'm heading myself in that direction. I'm also learning as I go by asking questions and taking advice. I'm just trying to save money where I can so I'll have it when I need it. I'm sure you all can understand that. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

Thanks to everyone for your advice. Does anyone have any DIY tips for say making my own pads? Like what type of material and say an outlet for such? Any tips on a material to wrap the pads in? What are you guys with the CCM's doing? Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

Well, I recently purchased a Flat Top Pro helmet from eBay. The fit is not ideal. It's pretty tight. I'm under the impression that the shells are all the same and that I can order a new set of pads to custom fit it to me. Is this the case? Also, $65 for 4 pieces of foam seems a bit exorbitant for my limited income. And if I start replacing much on this helmet with new stuff, it will totally defeat the reason I bought a used one to begin with. Does anyone know if I can resize the pads I have? Basically, I think all I really need is a smaller chin pad. I'm not really sure. The "top of the head" pad is very thin already and the ear pads seem to contain my head rather snuggly as well. I believe the problem to be in the thickness of the chin pad area. Not having owned a Flat Top Pro before I'm not even sure if these are original pads but they sure seem to be. Also the way I understand it is that the pads are to be baked and "formed" to my head. Can the pads be "rebaked" without ruining them? As soon as I get the helmet to fit my head I'll need to start setting it up. I'm excited. I think I'll use this time to upgrade perhaps to a CX100 but I still haven't quite decided. It's a lot of money for me and I've all ready spent a ton of money in the past few weeks on my vehicle. I'd really like to set it up right and not just throw something together. The prospect of buying new mounts and camera boxes etc is starting to make my brain swell. It amazes me that when I'm finished that the actual cameras will probably be the least expensive part of the helmet. Thank you Mike for hosting a FANTABULOUS boogie! It was great getting to come down and visit you all on your home turf for a change. You guys run a class act! All of us from Freefall Express Skydiving that came down had a great time! That fireworks display you all put on was 2nd to NONE! I've never seen anything like that anywhere. WOW! The party Sat. night was awesome. There were some GREAT costumes running around. I can't wait until we get the chance to do it again. See you guys in June when you head back up our way. Thanks again. West Tennessee skydiving is a small, down home dropzone with BIG dropzone amenities. The dropzone has a great vibe with huge experience. Mike runs a class act! From the air-conditioned packing area, pool, showers, jump ships, camping and services, this place has it all. I just attended the 2009 Halloween boogie and I just can't say enough about this place. One of the finest dropzones I have ever visited. A+ Thanks to all the fine up jumpers and all the Mullins' themselves for making me feel very welcome and showing me a great time. You guys are top notch.

...also... do any of you guys have links out there to videos you are shooting and editing in iMovie 08/09? ...especially tandem videos? I'd like to see the type of product you're putting out with this software. I'm using 6HD and putting out what I believe to be a fantastic video. I'd like to be able to do the same with '09. I think jumping up to FCE or FCS would add WAY too much time to my workflow. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

How are you guys handling sound in iMovie '09? In 6HD I can adjust the sound by moving little handles in the audio waveform... it was VERY fast and VERY efficient. In editing a tandem I would increase the volume of my video track by creating the handles and adjusting the volume up just before the student spoke and then back down when they were done. I could also lower the volume of the music track this same way if the music were drowning out the students speech. With this technique I could also create a fade for as long as I wanted as well. This doesn't seem possible in iMovie any more and if it is, how are you doing it? Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

Try emptying your CACHE... in Safari it's under the Safari menu. You might also check your Firewall settings under System Preferences>Security and see what that is set up for. With my mac it's always been my experience that if you can visit one site then you can visit them all... Are you using any Torrent programs like Vuze or Transmission... these will overwhelm your network and pretty much shut down your browser while they are running as well. NLE = Non Linear Editor = your computer I believe they are saying you can not just transfer the files through the Finder. You must "Import" the file through the application you are editing with. iMovie 9, Final Cut Express/Pro, Premier, etc. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

Heal quickly my friend... And what ever you do... don't allow any cameras in your room. Your friends will take every advantage to make fun of you and get it all documented! Don't forget... we're all still assholes.

Setting up a MacBook Pro for a Windows environment...
Superfletch replied to Superfletch's topic in Photography and Video
Mine has been giving some intermittent problems lately. I believe I solved them by blowing out the drive with compressed air and cleaning the lens by wrapping a t-shirt around a credit card and inserting it on the left side of the drive. I haven't had a problems since doing this. I had originally concluded that it just didn't like the shit memorex discs I was using but then some of my sony's started choking as well. I just was a bit worried that perhaps I was wearing it out. As far as replacing it... well, I had to disassemble the entire laptop to replace the 160GB HD that it came with, to the 320 I put in it the other day. It was surprisingly simple. A bit daunting perhaps with all the tiny little screws involved but I would have no apprehension in swapping the internal DVD if it required it. You just need a #00 phillips screwdriver and T6 and a large white sheet for when you drop one of those tiny screws.
