  3. Actually... you didn't HAVE to ask... you could have searched the forums and found out that particular subject has come up over and over and over and over again... I'm just sayin' Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer
  4. Shouldn't be hard at all... Go back to your AFF training... if you are NOT altitude aware, get a parachute over your head. If you are under a spinning malfunction you can wait the rest of your life listening for an audible that may never come. You know you're in a malfunction situation and you have no visible way of discerning your altitude I believe the proper course of action would have been to cutaway. Glad it worked out for you the way it did, but I think you made a mistake. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer
  5. What's wrong with your XT? Anything else isn't going to make you any more money? I'd jump it until it quits working... Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

  9. Perhaps you have a failing hard drive, or if the drive is external, a cable with a short in it... other than that... I wouldn't have a clue. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

  11. Well, the .pdf comparison file should answer those questions... The CX110 & 150 are both 2oz. lighter. They both have a slightly larger Censor which after reading these posts tell me the cameras will do a little better in low light conditions. The CX150 has 16GB onboard memory as opposed to the 100's 8GB and it seems that the CX110 has no onboard memory and REQUIRES a memory stick. These are the differences... What it boils down to is... Is 2oz lighter and slightly better low light capabilities minus the internal memory worth an extra $100 to ya? Or, is 2oz lighter, slightly better low light and an extra 8GB on board worth $150 more. Now I doubt that the increase in low light capabilities is all that noticeable, but I have to tell you, the CX100's isn't good at all. Anything better would have to be a plus. Thankfully, I don't do a lot of low light filming... rarely on the sunsat load. 2oz isn't all that much with a small helmet and like a Rebel on your head, but if you're shooting off a FTP with a 5D and a Flash then the 2oz is gonna be huge, well worth the increase in money if you ask me. For my money it's the CX100 hands down. Does a great job and it's fairly cheap. If I need more memory I'll buy more cards. (I don't even shoot on the onboard memory cause I want it for emergencies). The cards don't cost $150 either. I don't try and film in low light enough to worry about it so like I said, FOR ME it's a no brainer... It comes down to choice. You have to make one. 19. I have a Unibody Macbook Pro 17". It doesn't support eSATA however I beleive I can get an eSATA express/34 card that will. What I'm not sure about however is if that would create a bottleneck for eSATA speeds. The expresscard/34 port may step the speed down to USB2. I'd have to check into that. I know my Express/34 CF card reader is at USB2 speeds. When I purchased it I was hoping that it would be much faster and it isn't. I haven't researched it all that much however... 20. Excellent suggestion and one I hadn't even considered! Why pay the added expense of the case and power supply for drives that will just be stored somewhere. I'm definitely going to look into this. Also, thank you Phree for pointing that out as well. I had thought about something like that but wasn't sure of a program that was made for that task. I'll keep Lightroom in mind and also do some searching and see if there is something out there that fits my needs better. Is anyone out there archiving your footage on a mac and using a catalog program to track it? If so, what are you using? Anyone archiving digital footage like to share their HD Hierarchy? For instance: Macintosh HD\2009 Dec\4-6\Tandems\JoeBlow\AVCHD... Is there a better way so it won't be so damn confusing? 21. Also... what record mode? The choices are HD (FH, HQ, SP & LP) Am I wrong in thinking that your standard Tandem video, being burned on regular DVD's should probably be shot in a lower quality than say Full 1920x1080 resolution? HD FH would probably be for burning Blu-Ray right? For that matter, what about the SD record modes? I'm assuming that the HD record modes are probably better to shoot in even if I'm burning DVD's that will be played back in SD. I'm looking for some examples of quality vs. speed. I'll probably be transferring to a mac so I'd like to get the transfers as fast as I can without giving up too much of the quality, however, it is only a tandem video being recorded onto standard DVD's so I'm sure I probably don't need to be shooting ALL of my stuff in HD FH mode either. What do the rest of you think? Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer
  22. OK... so I have this CX100 now. My plan is to start using it for next season if I can get a smooth workflow going. In preparation for that I like to know some of your thoughts on how I should plan on archiving it. Right now I'm using a mac but I may end up using Vegas. In any case I'd like to archive it so that I could pull it up on ANY computer system I deemed necessary. I've been hearing that with the mac you have to keep the file structure in tact and with PC's all you need to do is keep the .mts files or something like that. In going on that I assume basically that for the mac I will need to copy the entire AVCHD folder over to the hard drive. Is this true? I suppose after I "bring it in" to the mac it is then a .mov file and I could just archive that, however I gather that the files are MUCH larger at this point and I'd be better off keeping the original AVCHD stuff. Any thoughts? Also, what is a good way to store the files so that they are reasonably easy to "find" later. For instance: I could create a folder called "2009-1217-T-JoeBlow" or "2009-1217-FF-2way" Is there a better way? I'm assuming to archive... after creating the folder I just drop my AVCHD folder in that, or can I change the name of the AVCHD folder withouth messing up the file structure. Outside of all that... I typically use about 25 DV tapes a year, what sized hard drive would I need to store that much time's worth of footage. I assume that getting a hard drive about the size I'd need each year would probably be the best course, then at the end of each year I could just label that particular drive with a date and know that's all the footage I shot that year. Or would it be more wise to just get a HUGE hard drive and keep dropping footage on their till it filled up. So many questions... so little time.... :P Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer

  24. Unfortunately it is as I suspected Brad.. I guess you're either going to have to put that new laptop of yours to work... or just tell them NTSC is their only option, however, that's going to cut out A LOT of work. Gary "Superfletch" Fletcher D-26145; USPA Coach, IAD/I, AFF/I Videographer/Photographer
  25. If I'm not mistaken I believe they are hooking their camera's into like a radioshack audio mixing board with a mp3 player for music and going straight out to a Sony DVDirect MC5 Multi-Function DVD Recorder RDMC5. Now, even though the camera is NTSC, if they were to buy a PAL format DVD burner... would that work? or do they need to purchase a video mixing board capable of doing NTSC and PAL and then how would they burn it? Equipment in possession: Sony HC20 (ntsc) & MC5 burner... What else do they need to be able to give out a PAL product for european customers?
