  1. Your right Steve.. I will win because I am a winner, and I'm good enough, and gosh darnet people like me!
  2. I have made the choice to practice the discipline of swooping, and if DZ's make teh choice to limit that discipline then I must not go to that DZ. I don't see how this is "whinning" as you say.
  3. We laid an 89 JVX out on top of an 89 VX and they were exactly the same if you go by that sizing method. The jvx will be bigger than the velo if you lay them out on top of each other. I wrote a diatribe about sizing somewhere on this site. http://canopypiloting.tempwebpage.com/cgi-bin/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=6207;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  4. Isn't the title of the thread called "Best Glide mode on a Velo"? He didn't ask about flying backwards into a pond or lake. Besides do you even regularly jump a velocity?
  5. If the wind is enough that you are in a dead stand still on a velo it may be a little to windy to be jumping in my opinion.
  6. "When you are downwind, generally full flight will get you the most distance covered. If you are actually backing up, front risers will help you not get backed up too much." Bad information for a velocity. Full flight and fronts will provide to much sink.
  7. "Kindly explain in simple language that even I can understand how my suggestion that USPA asks DZOs to come up with a plan that is customized for their DZ to prevent collisions between those doing standard landing patterns and those doing high performance landings is (a) "not thinking rationally", and (b) hiding behind Bob's death." My comments were more of a generalization about these types of threads not an attack on what you have asked USPA to do.
  8. True dat dude... True dat. I understand that this type of event is a horrible travisty on the entire sport but I think the solution is a little more deep routed than just seperating landing areas and making new BSR's. That is why I argue for the education side of the solution. I now see a lot of Merrit in sepperation but it has to be done propperly or it won't work. I like it when you and I can have a constructive conversation about this instead of degrading to the point of quoting each other and flinging barbed remarks back and forth...
  9. When people say "Would education help Bob" when we say that education of the masses is a good possible solution. That would be hiding behind Bob's death and not thinking rationally. That quote is from someone in another of the many threads on this subject. Grant
  10. "I expect I have you beat on that." Yup you do... So I can see where you have a vested interest, but when people hide behind the excuse of "Bob Holler never saw it coming" or "Danny was a swooper so now all swoopers need to be banned to a diiferent area" or even people like JLMIRACLE saying "Again, you want a quick fix - ban swooping and stupidly small canopies." does nothing to solve the problem. If you cannot seperate emotion then you are not thinking rationally.
  11. "You want to dish it out, but don't like it when you get it back?" What ever dude... You keep typeing here on DZ.com and I'll go and make some jumps. This thread is worthless.
  12. It really depends on what the winds are doing. If you are up wind and running with the wind then deep brakes to float as long as possible will be your friend. If you are fighting a head wind then Rear risers are the best approach.
  13. "Speaking of knee-jerk... again, your prejudice is showing." "when are y'all going to start DOING something about it??? " "But, who cares about that guy flying the square 90 pattern, anyway? He's not a CANOPY PILOT, after all... " Those are pretty barbed remarks there buddy. Do you want to solve the situation or just argue for the sake of argueing? Maybe when you calm down a little then you can join the adult conversation.
  14. Hi Steve, Yawn... This debate in it's 4th or 5th iteration is still producing no results that will prevent anyone from getting killed. Brian put in some thought and effort which is a little more than I can say about MNealTX and kallend and many of the other people here that are good at typing on DZ.com. Those are the ones who are so blinded by a death that they will never be able to get over it and thank rationally about the situation so they choose to yell and scream on dropzone.com and clump all swoopers into one group. You, I, and the other swoop pureists out there know how that the solution to this problem is education and not knee jerk reactions but as long as there are those who will yell and scream just so they can hear themselves talk, we will never come to a rational conclusion to this issue.
  15. I spoke directly with PD about making the larger optimums and they said to not expect them out any time soon. Canopies may be able to be mathmatically scaleable from one size to another but that doesn't mean that the opening or flying characteristics scale as well. There is a thread in this forum about the optimum reserve that I started quite awhile back. This conversation would be better suited in that thread instead of making several other threads about the same subject. I'm sure that moderators like Bill Von would agree. That is all.
  16. Make sure the white loop does not go through the RSL ring like you have it on th eback of the right picture. DO NOT JUMP THAT SETUP.
  17. "I got it for small, floaty AFF students and outside big-way RW slots." Are you sure your not adding a pound or two there?
  18. I might use these helmets in the future:
  19. I think he is just taking after me. I brought Sexy back and now all the kids want to do it... It's hard being a trend setter.
  20. Come one come all and witness the rebirth of Rec.Skydiving!
  21. Anybody can have a bad comp and somebody has to finish last in this game but you shouldn't get frustrated. In my book those who didn't compete finished last. You are much better than them honey. Keep pluggin along and you will be first soon enough. Im sure you will be able to beet me hahaha! Grant
  22. The speed could be playing an optical trick on your mind making you think that you were slightly lower that you were causing you to flare to much for the situation. It often happen to people not used to downwinders when they go down wind. Try looking more towards the horizon as it will give you a better feel for your altitude.
  23. Don't you mean "Godzirra"??
