Earthquake for sure. We had one back in 2001 measuring 6.8. The fact that the building I work in was built over what was once Seattle's waterfront assures me that I don't want to be in it for the next one or a bigger one whichever comes first. I also live in an area that's close to Mt Ranier. Should it blow, let's just kiss WA bye bye thanks to the mudflow and ash after the shaking stops.

I have to agree with all your comments Mr. Vanboeschoten -
Cookie emailed me with a quote and I'm now deciding between Cookie's and Bonehead's. As I understand, Bonehead has one specifically for the PC5 and PC9 that's supposedly slimmer and shorter (height wise) except for a bulge to accomodate larger 'S' batteries. Otherwise, their "generic" larger box could accomodate any PC style camera. Cookie's on the other hand doesn't have this bulge and I could care less about using a larger battery. It looks more compact, and flush all around. The only thing is I've never seen it up close. Considering they cost about the same, which one has your vote?

So why don't just welded them all shut? Better yet: Why even have any?

How seriously are you taking the new alert?

The 4.0 mod basically takes adds another upper control line and it's positioned closer to towards the center cell. (The Diablo originally comes with 3 upper control lines on ea. side). You end up getting more flare power. Turns are supposedly a tad slower than w/o the 4.0, but the Diablo is still a fast turning canopy to begin with. I had thought of selling the Diablo for a same size Sabre2, but not anymore. A reline a still cheaper than buying canopy, new or used.

Them DeBox looks good. No price on their website though I take it you've used one of these? The only picture I've seen of it in action is this. It looks slimmer than Bonehead's, and was wondering if the X-Jaket is too. Although I wonder about the padding because they're both so slim.

One other thing I forgot to mention: I think one of the drawbacks of mounting a still camera upside down has to do with loading film. The forehead area could provide little access to the film door. Hence a quick release might be an idea around this to save you from having to re-aim the camera each time. And looking at the picture of the Bonehead top mount bracket, I have a feeling that the height of the bend is somewhat short and it's probably meant to accomodate such a release (Velbon 635 or Stroboframe 300). Just my guess.

I'll have to agree with you there. I'm convinced that the price of a "box" is small relative to replacing the camera. I've always thought that the protection was only good for riser strikes, until I was told about the lense assembly getting taken out because of the wide angle lense getting struck in freefall. Then I've also been told about tape fluttering due to air coming into the camera (more on old style 8 and Hi8 though). And how even a condom was minimal.
-
Sight as in aim? I'm guessing that it should be somewhat close either way. I used a cheap laser pointer to pre-aim the red dot in relation to the view finder, then used that reference to stick a paper reinforcer on my goggles (Trick I learned from diverds - look here) I can't afford a ring sight
-
I guess the height of the still camera would determine whether or not it's view finder could potentially obsturct your field of view. Doh! The camera I saw on that setup was a Rebel X and it's not as tall as my EOS 650 that's for sure.
-
The one setup I come across was a flat piece that went from the back of the video camera (mounted on top) and extended with enough room the have the still camera (on the forehead) mounted upside down. No bends. It's cut was shaped quite flush to top mount platform. You should be able to make a template for the aluminium if you took a piece of tracing or wax paper, attached it to the top mount with some rolled sticky tape, and traced along the edges.
-
I have a sheet of 1/8" thick aluminium if you'd like. I was going to make an L-bracket with it, but my friends have persuaded me to get a box to protect my PC5 investment. I won't be needing the aluminium now

In my case, it sure turned out to be the cable. I went back to Kenmore Camera and exchanged the 4pin to 6pin 1394 cable and everything is just jivin'

These Totally Stupid Autorities can't have their asses any more backwards? This ain't real is it? Not like skydiving hasn't robbed me $$$ enough to play with model rockets anyway...

After much persuasion from friends, I'm convinced to go with some box to protect my PC5 investment. Now I'm left to decide which one to get: X-Jaket or D-Box. I couldn't find a thread discussing this subject. So what's your preference and why?
