  1. Does everybody have their costume ready for the party?! Vicki
  2. Hey Tracy, Didn't get to catch up with you when I was out in SoCal a couple of weeks ago but I live and work half an hour out of London so lets meet up! Vicki
  3. I’m not 100% sure, but I think that henna is supposed to be ok providing you only have a small amount of grey. It is natural – so no horrible chemical smell - and leaves hair beautifully soft and conditioned. On the down side though… it’s messy! Vicki
  4. Have you tried henna? It does a great job of putting a red glow into brown hair. Vicki
  5. Where's that? I was under the impression that in most of the UK the going rate for tandems and AFF was around £30-£35 which is more like $50 - $60. Vicki
  6. Looks like a fairly typical bank holiday weekend from where I’m sitting! Oh well… hope you all have your school girl costumes ready for Saturday night! (You too boys! This is Nethers after all...) Vicki
  7. Aside from some possible slightly paranoid "big brother" reservations I can't say I'm all that bothered one way or another. However... I would STRONGLY object to paying for such a thing. If the government wants to introduce them then they ought to be free for all - not yet another stealth tax. After all, don't we keep getting told that by having ID cards it will save millions in benefit fraud etc? I just think that being forced to pay £40 + for a plastic card that I don't really care about one way or another is a bit much. Vicki
  8. Rosa is indeed very lovely and an absolute sweetie - a little person with a huge heart of gold. Rosa - you rock!
  9. You can usually do your APA membership in the office at Nethers. I think you need logbook, FAI, reserve docs... hth! Vicki
  10. Pretty much what I have now (but then it is less than a month old…) Javelin Odyssey PD Reserve Cypres 2 I’d probably like to change my main – replace my Spectre 135 (which is well over a month old before anyone asks!) with a Pilot 132 or 124!
  11. It's hidden away in The Bonfire... but here's the link since I'm nice! http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=889661;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Vicki
  12. It's all been discussed here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1042347;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Vicki
  13. The getting to Nethers by public transport thing has been discussed here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=958408;search_string=station%20%2B%20pewsey;#958408 My guess is that it would be easier to get there from Salisbury than Andover (only a short hop on the train) and you can then get a bus from Salisbury - but check the bus timetables online and see what looks easiest. hth!
  14. Two bits of advice: Firstly, speak to instructors who know your abilities about teh size and model of canopy that you are thinking about buying. Secondly there are a lot of other suitable first canopies out there - demo whatever you can get your hands on in an appropriate size for you and decide for yourself!
  15. Sorry... should I have said, "I doubt I will ever go fully elliptical". Going from a square 9-cell to a "tapered" 7-cell of the same size, if anything, felt like a small upsize. Vicki
  16. Depends a lot on what you like about a canopy, how current you are, your skill level, what you want from a canopy… etc… Personally, I have stayed on squares all along (Student stuff -> PD 170 -> Sabre 150 -> Sabre 135 -> Spectre 135) and I doubt I will ever go elliptical.
  17. Makes you want to be sick doesn't it? Vicki
  18. That is SOOOOOO unfair. I have a head cold and can't jump this weekend. Don't have too much fun will you?! Vicki
  19. Yep - didn't I pack that canopy when it had something silly like 1 or 2 jumps on it?! I seem to remember you pointed at the rig, handed me a fiver and legged it! It wasn't that bad though - a bit slippery but no problem getting it in the bag! Vicki
  20. AFAIK it is just the saint day of St. George – the patron saint of England (he of dragon slaying fame!). Some info about St. George here: http://www.innotts.co.uk/asperges/george.html By coincidence, April 23rd is also the birthday of one of the greatest ever Englishmen, William Shakespeare! Vicki Edited: to add link
  21. Happy St. George's Day to all English dotcommers! What, if anything, are you doing to celebrate St. George's Day?
  22. Having a similar (although much less serious) issue myself atm. I was due to be jumping in the first competition of the season, 1st competition with the team etc. thsi weekend... and I have a horrific head cold. I know if I jump I will damage my ears and take myself out for much longer than this cold will… and I too am approaching a milestone (not quite as close, but still approaching)… My decision has been to ask the team to call in an alternate and to sit it out on the ground. It’s not what I want to do, but I don't want to cause myself unnecessary pain or damage myself and I know it’s the sensible thing for me to do. That milestone will happen eventually... Sucks, huh?! Vicki
  23. First off - what do you weigh and what wing loadings are we be looking at? How many jumps have you done on the current canopy? And why do you feel you want to downsize? (this is not a trick question!) You say that your instructors say your canopy control is good - have you spoken to them about this and what are their views? Have you taken a canopy control course? (Chris Lynch's is excellent and is travelling all over the Uk this summer) Good luck with your choices
