If any other non-UK jumpers are wondering how to go about getting a subscription... try this! Vicki

Sharing the Sport with a Child or Parent?
vt1977 replied to Dumpster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My dad gave up skydiving in 1968… but he was good enough to buy me my FJC for my 16th birthday! -
I think a lot of UK jumpers object to the amount (£105 per person per annum) that we have to pay for BPA membership as a whole and the mag component is included in that and is not optional. Personally, I like the mag and don’t mind paying for it (I think it works out at about £17 per year). However, I know that there is a school of thought that we shouldn’t be forced to pay for the mag as part of our BPA membership. The mag is a great read and Lesley has undoubtedly done an amazing job with it... does anyone else remember what it was like before she took it over?! Vicki Edited because of a stooopid typo!

You need an on-site go-kart track, complete with bar – just like Empuriabrava! And some Empuria style views would be very nice too... but they can keep the Tramontana! Vicki

Can anyone tell me what the reserve re-pack cycle is in Sweden? Will our UK packed reserves (6 month re-pack cycle over here) be ok to jump at the boogie? Vicki

0:0:0 But a fun weekend regardless! The skies were big and blue and the sun was shining over Netheravon… but I really had to be disciplined and not spend any money! I packed all weekend and can now afford to team train all next weekend and compete the weekend after that!

There is an excellent article written by Chris Lynch here from this month’s BPA magazine. The following quote from the article may prove to be food for thought for some on here… "Wake up, stow your ego and listen to this free advice." Vicki

Sweetie, I am so sorry to hear that. 4 months! Sending you loads of hugs from across the pond – I will be thinking of you! 4 months seems like ages now, but it really isn’t going to be as awful as it sounds. I’ve had lay-offs that long during UK winters before and that first jump back is just the most fantastic thing on earth – you will fall in love with the sky all over again.

Well... either up to no good... or one of them might be in a refrigerator somewhere near you...! Vicki

You haven't, um, noticed anyone going missing from your office lately have you?! Vicki
-
I've just thought... you don't reckon this is some crazy spin off from the what to do with the body thread?! Vicki

This should put you off your morning cuppa... Vicki Edited because I really can't spell today!

There is some general info on the Langar website here: http://www.bpslangar.co.uk and some boogie specific info here: http://www.bpslangar.co.uk/html/events.shtml I'd love to make it up there... but it's that annoying job thing and lack of available holiday time... Still! I guess I'll make it up there for one of the weekends and I'm sure you'll have a great time! Vicki

I'm in Woking and jump at Nethers and sometimes Headcorn. Vicki

Rosa, hope it all went well and that the doctor had good news for you. Vicki

There are quite a few of us one here... whereabouts in London are you? Vicki
-
0:4:0 4 rounds of the Speed-star meet at Headcorn completed on Saturday and a fantastic party that evening! Also found a new roof to climb which can't be a bad thing... Vicki

Damn Rosa – I am so sorry to hear about this sweetie. That really sucks. Sending you oodles of transatlantic ((((((((VIBES)))))))) and hugs. I’ll be thinking of you sweetie – heres hoping for a quick recovery… and can someone who’s nearby please make sure Rosa gets some chocolate (and pain meds?!). Rosa - you’ll be back in the air before you know it and I know the next few weeks will be tough, but you’re strong and you’ll get there. PM me if there's anything I can do to help or if you need to vent. Vicki

... and it was great! Anyone else seen it yet? I thought the pace was much better (quicker) that the previous films. The change in Director was obvious too. I enjoyed it!

No wind tunnel in the UK… yet… Your nearest wind tunnel at the moment is Paris unless you fancy another trip to Florida for the Orlando tunnel or California to the Perris Valley wind tunnel. Definitely get in touch with the Chief Instructor at Chatteris and talk to them about getting back in the air! Vicki

Firstly, have you discussed these questions with a local rigger and had a look at what else may be available on the second hand market? My guess is that for a bit more cash you could get a decent set of second hand kit, that is freefly friendly and can be easily sold on in a year or two without depreciating too much. Secondly, what is your exit weight? I personally wouldn’t overload an older Raven reserve… How many jumps on main and reserve? Vicki

It's difficult to say what your drop zone will want you to do to get back in the air - but I'm guessing a bare minimum of some refresher training and possibly a check out dive too. My suggestion would be to give the DZ a call, speak to the Chief Instructor and discuss your situation with them. They can then advise what they need you to do and you can maybe arrange a mutually convenient time to get down to the DZ for some refresher training. Do it soon... you'll be buzzing SO much after that first jump back! Vicki

Woo-hoo! Congratulations on your 1,000th! Vicki
