  1. If you'd read a little further down you may have noticed the Z1 Alpha which is an open face helmet!!! Vicki
  2. Z1 do also produce an open face helmet. Vicki
  3. :3:0 Spent Saturday tidying my garden before winter sets in. Went to the DZ today and did 3 jumps. Damn it was cold though... Vicki
  4. Landing on grass and packing on mats, your white should stay white for a fair while. However... one trip to Eloy, Perris (or any other sandy DZ) and that nice white will very quickly become a horrible, dirty brown colour. Personally, I'd steer clear of white! I have a small amount on my current canopy and don't intend to have any on my next canopy! Vicki
  5. PS to add... Since you're in the UK, you now have 2 brand new windtunnels to go and play in! Take advantage of that - we are very, very spoilt all of a sudden - whatever freefall discipline you choose! Vicki
  6. I find it very, very easy to open the visor on my Z1 with one hand - even with thick gloves on. I have heard of others not finding it so easy though! Vicki
  7. You may find this thread helpful. Vicki
  8. I presume you're based in the UK in which case have you considered AFF in Spain? Both Empuriabrava (contact Kev McCarthy - a BPA instructor) and Lillo will get you your A licence and will help make it as easy as possible to jump without hassle when you get back to the UK. If you are doing AFF abroad (i.e. outside the BPA system), try to ensure that you do at least 10 consolidation jumps after AFF as that is required by the BPA before you are off student status. Also try to get as much video as possible showing what you have done. hth and good luck! Vicki
  9. I have a Z1 and I mainly do FS. The reason I chose the Z1 is that they seem to mist/ice up a lot less than other helmets in very cold weather - a real factor if you are jumping in the UK. FYI - in the UK you need a B licence and 50 jumps before you can jump in a full face helmet. Vicki
  10. Since you're in the UK, you will need to do at least some FS or RW before you are allowed to attempt to freefly. Last time I checked the ops manual you had to be able to do the following flat flying before being allowed to freefly: Forward/backward movement Sideways movement Fast/slowfall In place turns Dive to pin You will need to find an FS coach (sometimes still called WARP coach) to learn these skills with. However, once you have achieved these skills you will be within a couple of jumps of achieving your FS1 so you may as well carry on and get that anyway. You will then be free to go and learn more FS or start freeflying.
  11. I am sooooo jealous of all you lucky people going to Kenya! I'm sure Caroline has some very cool FS stuff planned for you... she organises at my home DZ and we always have fun and learn with her.
  12. Or a devil? (I'm assuming you're trying for a halloween theme...) Lots of red which would be nice and visible at night and you could attach some horns to a helmet!
  13. How about a vampire? They fly too... Lots of black, maybe some purple too and some spooky make-up. Good luck whatever you choose! Vicki

    spiced wine?

    Mulled wine? Vicki
  15. Woo-hoo! Great post Beverly! Can we make it sticky?! Vicki
  16. I don't know - sorry. Maybe e-mail them and ask? Vicki
  17. The first time I saw someone in freefall was on a 15 second delay. I was turning slowly (as I did for many of my student jumps) and I remember seeing the instructor who had followed me out smiling right in front of me. It was beyond cool!
  18. artistcalledian... Can I respectfully ask that if you want to discuss internet psycho analysis or the rights and wrongs of your "joke" that you start another thread? Please leave this one for people to empathise with squink's loss. Vicki
  19. If you genuinely knew how upsetting the loss of a pet can be, then you would not have made a "joke" of it. I don't see anyone else laughing. My world has not changed, but your lack of sensitivity to squink's obvious upset at the loss of her dog says far more about you than it does about anyone else. Vicki
  20. If you think that comment was a "slightly inappropriate joke" then you have clearly never lost a much loved dog. Would you make a similar joke to someone who had just lost a family member? No? Well think twice before making such a comment to someone who has just lost a family pet. The sense of loss and grief is the same - it is like losing a member of the family and can be totally devastating. Vicki
  21. Have a look at this site. Also this is very touching. Sorry for your loss. Vicki
  22. Not me, not this year. The lure of Christmas without jet lag in beautiful Empuriabrava is just too great!
  23. Aw c'mon... I'm allowed a couple of weekends per year away from Nethers... Got to escape your scariness somehow! Vicki
  24. I have a very vague memory of being told that my old Sabre 135 was "really" a 143. Vicki
  25. Short answer - yes. I am capable of making a decision for myself about what does and does not constitute appropriate viewing. I can just about see some logic in not allowing viewing of certain illegal activities, but this discussion perhaps belongs elsewhere... BUT when a video relates directly to the safety of my weekend activities I feel I should be able to view it if I feel I want to. This is not because I want to watch someone bounce - I've seen that for real and, trust me, those images are imprinted in my brain forever - it's because I feel I may learn something. Vicki Edited to clarify...
