It's not that good any more . . . he's disabled access to them while he reorganizes his site. It sounds like he is going to start charging for each download. Arrive Safely John

As stated before, the original 177 SQ FT 5-cell Swift has the weird brake setting. The 7-cell Swift Plus 175, followed by the 225 and 145, had normal deployment brake setting. I have hard copy manuals for both, but they are buried in the attic. I will see what I can dredge up at work tomorrow. Just figure out which Swift you have. The R number in the serial is the indicator. If I remember correctly the Swift was R3. I can look in my logbook and find one from back in the day. Arrive Safely John

You need to call me. I PMd you my cell phone number. While things have changed a bit since I left, the basics are still the same. I can clear up some obvious misconceptions you have about tryouts and give you some tips on training for them. Arrive Safely John

Keep your standards high. Also keep your target small - "aim small miss small." If you do indeed become a Golden Knight, the standards will get higher and the targets tighter. Your skill level will also improve to a level you never imagined possible. During my tour there a couple of demos were VERY tight. One was on a barge in the middle of a river, where the tips of the target arms were dropping over the side. On that demo you were either on target or swimming! I missed that one - I was in school. That is an extreme case, but nobody got wet that day. Look at this picture of Tom Welgos landing in the back of a bass boat. That was for fun, not a demo, but it doesn't get any tighter than that. Sean Tucker bails out of Oracle Challenger
slotperfect replied to precision's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's what he flew the first year or two I knew him. I still have a pair of Randolph aviator sunglasses. Get me his email address, will ya? Arrive Safely John -
I am on three or four times a day, mostly just a few minutes a whack. If I get really busy, I will at least visit the forums I moderate. VERY VERY thankfully, because I am now spending less time dealing with warning/banning/removing stuff posted by folks whose sole agenda is stirring up firestorms in the forums, I am able to spend more of my short bursts online making contributions - answering questions, tracking down information for people, sharing my experiences. That's why I agreed to be a Moderator in the first place. It has been a lot quieter lately, and I am thankful for that. Arrive Safely John

Sean Tucker bails out of Oracle Challenger

I knew Sean very well during my tour as a Golden Knight. Sean used to be a skydiver and CRW dog. Watching my Dad, about 70 at the time, hold one of the ribbon cutting poles as Sean flew through it inverted right in front of us - everyone else ducked, but Dad didn't even blink! I'm glad he had the altitude to safely bail out. Thanks for the link to the story. Arrive Safely John -
Wash your mouth out. Actually, he is believed to be still here under his alter egodog. Arrive Safely John

Personally I never leave my gear out for long periods of time anywhere. I am not too concerned about fellow skydivers at Raeford, but we have had unattended gear stolen by people from the area sniffing around for something they can hock for quick cash. On the other hand, there has been this nut job hanging around behind the dumpsters (pic attached). Arrive Safely John

Dayum! Three posts in 3.5 years! That's like turtles @#$%ing! What's up, Senor Raton? It's good to see you posting here. Call me at work tomorrow -I have good contact info for Vigil folks in both Belgium and in the US. Arrive Safely John

I got mine from Para Gear years ago, but I don't see it in the catalog any more, nor can I find it on the website. I gave them a call, but the "go-to guy" wasn't there. You can give them a call at (847) 679-5905 and ask for Jay Bailey. Another option would be to email Handsome Dave DeWolf: paraloft@aol.com He might be able to steer you in the right direction. People learn to skydive for different reasons, and some never assimilate into the stereotypical skydiver image. As Instructors we should be professional enough to allow our students to be themselves as they learn, rather than pushing them in one direction or another. Somebody should have let this fellow know what he was getting himself into. If he chose to do it anyway, then (as already stated) a bet's a bet. I used to play golf with three of my GK team mates, playing "hanger rules." If a tee shot didn't make it past the ladies' tee, the owner had to go get his ball with his pants around his ankles. It was accepted by all, and embarrasing but fun. Arrive Safely John

This one didn't last long before it went downhill. It's a worthy discussion, so I cleaned it up a bit - please keep it that way. And for the record . . . Scotty Carbone is not worthy of that moniker. I've only met Tami once, but that would not be a word I would choose to describe her either. Then there's Hercules - and he's a hero story all by himself. Arrive Safely John

I open up the chest strap after opening on every canopy I jump. On my two Odysseys, sometimes I open it a little too far and it comes open - maybe once in 200 jumps. I simply thread it back again. Arrive Safely John

A note for everyone . . . discussions in this forum about skydiving gear can be very productive, even when opposing opinions exist in the same thread. Please be objective and keep emotion out of your posts and leave the name calling to those at recdot. Arrive Safely John -
You will get better results with an outdoor grill, especially with Mesquite for the fire. There is nothing like the smell of mesquite carbon fiber barbeque. Your neighbors will come over and bring lots of beer. Arrive Safely John
