  1. This thread belongs in the Gear and Rigging Forum . . . Arrive Safely John
  2. This was too good on its own - I moved it from the Vigil thread. Arrive Safely John

  4. A long but useful diversion. Thanks to you all for keeping it civil. Now that the patent issue has been completely laid on the table, let's get the thread back on track - talking about licensing the Skyhook to put it on other rigs. Arrive Safely John
  5. There are countless posts in the Forums about L&B's incredible customer service - I have experienced it myself. I remember one post that a guy lost his Pro-Track off his external helmet mount on his first jump with it. He emailed L&B with the sad story and asked for a discount on a replacement - they sent him one for free. I think you will have a very good experience sending your unit in for repair. 6. I have countless jumps on a flag rigged on a pulley system pulled out of an F-111/velcro bag attached between right center C and D lines and one of the risers on the right side of the Flight Concepts 7-cell series. It was a co-development between Neal Beverly and Mike Mayo in the USAPT loft. I still have one, along with the plans, but I couldn't tell you where at the moment. I have jumped several drop flags, the largest of which was British made, built in a bag worn on the chest with a 10-lb weight at the bottom. It was a huge F-111 flag. I have a pic or two somewhere that I will try and post later. Arrive Safely John
  7. I voted yellow - on the highway they are the easiest vehicles to see, and they show up quite well against a blue background. My personal reserve is yellow, and we just changed from white to yellow at work as well. I have heard for years and years that white reserves and have asked manufacturers that question as well. I have been told that they have never seen evidence to support it. I am not a fabric worker, but I don't think that the natural fibers of 0-3 cfm material are pure white. I believe they have to be dyed white, which means the dye would create as much pack volume as one that is dyed any other color. Maybe some of the more seasoned riggers that are plugged into the textile industry more than I can chime in on this. I always advise people to steer away from dark colors. As stated in earlier posts, they are hard to work on. Black is bad, but the worst I have ever worked on was woodland camouflage on an old Pioneer HAPS main canopy. That was a pain in the ass! 8. HH has been considering this for a long time now - I have talked to him about it as well. There are two old threads Terry posted in Suggestions & Feedback here and here. The more input HH gets for this feature, the higher he will place it on his priority list. The PIA Riggers Forum - I used it and liked it. There were a lot of highly skilled and experienced Riggers that posted there but not here in the DZ.com Forums. I will be happy to see it return, and voted for "after-the-post" moderation like we have here. Arrive Safely John

  10. GEatonSkyfly - personal attacks are not tolerated in the forums. I edited the PA from your post and the one reply that quoted it. Your one warning . . . Everyone - state your opinion, share your experiences, but don't let it slide into heated arguments or PAs. That will result in a locked thread and a reduced benefit for everyone. Thanks, Arrive Safely John
  11. They mean that the internal mechanism is accurate within manufacturer's standards to 18,000 FT. As for knowing which rotation you are on, that requires a bit of mental dirt diving on your part. If you exit at, say, 16,000FT, an altimeter with a 12,000 FT face will read about 4,000 FT when you exit, and you know it's going to pass through 12,000 FT once before you can read it verbatim. When I make military jumps from 25,000 FT, we use altimeters with a 12,000 FT face. The needle has to pass through 12,000 FT twice before you can read it verbatim. It requires good situational awareness to stay on top of things. Arrive Safely John
  12. I tap the student on the shoulders so they can bring their arms back into the "safety position" before I pull. I have told them on the ground that "it's safe for me to deploy with your arms in the free fall position, but most people simply like to have a place to put their hands." I do not hold the student on opening. I continue to fly through the opening until we are completely sitting up, at which point I look up and grab my rear risers up high. This is consistent with what I have been taught. The only thing I do to support the student on opening is to pu my legs together and hold them up under the knees. In the event of a hard opening, the straightening of both sets of legs absorbs a lot of the whack. I cannot recall ever having a hard opening on the Sigma 370 canopies we jump. Arrive Safely John

  17. Cross posting is not allowed by the Forum Rules. The two duplicates have been removed. Edited to add: in addition, you end up sabotaging yourself - responses are fragmented because of multiple locations. When the duplicates get removed, so do the responses. You can lose valuable content that way. Please choose the best forum for your subject and post it only once. Thanks. Arrive Safely John
