  1. I need help finding a song. If you have "There's A Place In The World For A Gambler" ripped to .mp3 please PM me. I am working on a project with three other folks and one of them wants to add that song. I don't know it and need to learn it. I have the lyrics . . . Cheers, Arrive Safely John
  2. Keep the toggles - they go with the rig. Get your Rigger to help you with the knots - or a fellow jumper who has successfully done it before. Arrive Safely John
  3. That's because those who don't take the time to find the topical forum that best fits their subject have made it that way. This is not now, nor has it ever been "Bonfire II." "Interesting" is a relative term, and differs greatly from person to person and message board to message board. "Forum Rules" is not a relative term (see "Topical Posting"). These are not Super Bowl commercials, and thread exposure is not the primary purpose behind any of these forums. I would spend a little less of it moving them if you weren't so cavalier about it. Try and take a little time to understand the dynamic of these forums as the creator intended it to be rather than contort it into your own. Arrive Safely John
  4. Time for a little visibility on this issue again. "General" does not mean "Whatever." Please ask if you are unclear what is meant here. Cheers, Arrive Safely John

  7. From someone I met this week that knew Knacke personally: the "Parachute Recovery Systems Design Guide" is his own work - he collaborated with others on the Air Force "Recovery Systems Design Manual." There is some commonality between the two, but some differences as well - apparently Knacke did not quite agree with everything published in the collaboration and deviated in publishing his own work. I have a hard copy of the first and a digital copy of the Irvin scan. Arrive Safely John

  9. This post makes no sense hanging out here all by its lonesome. Please copy/paste text from this post into a reply to your original post. Thanks, Arrive Safely John
  10. Already here! It's a Premiere Membership Feature!
  11. I miss it too! Bring it back! Arrive Safely John
  12. FF2 = "Irvin Hitefinder" Irvin Aerospace Cheers, Arrive Safely John
  13. Buy a used pop-up that you can tow. If my neighbors' minivan can tow one safely, your pickup surely can. Theirs is quite nice - I have lived in it for a few days with my wife and another couple. Arrive Safely John
  14. This is a great link - thanks for posting it. One note: this is a skydiving forum. When you post links like this in the future, please point us to the skydiving content. Thanks!

  16. Exactly! It's called the "trapdoor effect" and how much/how long varies based on system type. Arrive Safely John
  17. I did that show twice - 92 and 94 I think. We got weathered out the first year - didn't get to jump at all. We just pigged out on crawdads and beer. The second time we not only jumped the air show, but did a demo and some fun jump organizing at S'Port City Skydivers. That was my only experience with a Beech 18. Narrating is near and dear to my heart - I miss it. Have a great show - safe jumps and all. Arrive Safely John
  18. My fall rate with a drogue and an average sized tandem student is about 115-120 MPH. My fall rate without a drogue (same sized passenger) is about 180 MPH. All of the surface area is concentrated in one place - one big lump of flesh hurtling toward the ground together. Arrive Safely John
  19. I did exactly that, but the A license was handled the same as the others back then. My recommendation: finish the tasks on your A license proficiency card and get it stamped. Save your $20 until you complete all of the B License requirements. These days the only people that send in $ to USPA for an A license are those who want a number for posterity. Arrive Safely John
  20. Yup. This one belongs in Bonfire. Arrive Safely John
  21. Let's keep this thread going. Thanks. Arrive Safely John
  22. Hugs to ya, Lisa. Arrive Safely John
  23. 22 years of US Army service (as of last Monday). 20 years is the mark that earns you a military pension for life. Until then it was a long slow climb up the mountain, not knowing what it would look like at the top. Not only was the view worth the wait, but I get to stick around and enjoy it for a while. 24. This is not a skydiving thread. In the future please post non-skydiving related content in Bonfire or Speaker's Corner (depending on the subject matter). Arrive Safely John
