  2. But see, that's the thing. If the company had a contract with the recruiter and they ask me to go around the recruiter because they now have their candidate of choice (me) and don't want to pay the recruiter's fee, well, that's pretty shady too and I'm not sure that's the type of company I want to work for. All this is speculation of course. It could be that they're actually restructuring. is it ok to ask you what line of work you are in? if you don't want to say, no sweat... -the artist formerly known as sinker

  6. i don't see the problem, in the first pic, he's trying to cheer the poor lady up, and in the second, he and papa bush are catchin fish to feed the poor with! -the artist formerly known as sinker
  7. So your saying that all painters will turn out like Hitler....... What? My cousins a painter so does that mean I am related to Hitler..... hhmmmm I don't get it what I took the original poster to mean is that twisted art often comes from twisted minds. the comment has nothing to do w/ artists in general. and, you may related to Hitler, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with your cousin being a painter. (of course, I can't tell if you are or not, but it's genetically possible). -the artist formerly known as sinker

  10. not a cassette, an 8-track, seriously... there were two... Saturday Night Fever soundtrack Boston's Don't Look Back But man I hated how the songs would fade out as the track would get ready to jump from track 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and so forth... some of the younger folks on here are probably going, wtf is he talking about? -the artist formerly known as sinker
  11. good on ya for your hard work and determination and for your positive outlook! you epitomize alot of what I see, esp. in the muslim community here in Nashville, hard working immigrants, very determined, and mostly, very grateful for what they are able to do for themselves and their families in this country. It's people like THAT that make me grateful to be an American, much more so than so many of the ingrates (sp?) who whine about all the probs w/ our govt. and such. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  12. Man! That's exactly THREE of ME that he benched!! holy cow man! (yeah, I know, i'm pushin maximum density, that's why they call me sinker and not floater)
  13. they certainly are interesting pieces, and they do indeed say alot about him as a person. also, the posting of these is very timely considering recent threads here. i thought the "risen" painting was pretty interesting... lots of symbolism there. can't say i agree w/ him, but i like how i he communicates his message. oft times art says so much more than words. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  14. I believe that, for some people. But I've had a lot of people try to "prove" the existence of God to me by pointing out certain things that cannot be explained, and I don't understand how they have convinced themselves that that is proof of anything. Sorry, didn't mean to imply that anyone who believes in God is like that. And I know that a lot of atheists come across as arrogant, thinking that anyone who believes in God is a mindless idiot, but I don't think that I am like that. I simply don't believe in God (in any form), but I don't in any way feel superior to those who do. Hell, sometimes I wish that I did believe in God - it seems like it might make life easier to deal with in some ways, but I can't really force myself to believe in something that I honestly don't believe in. i certainly respect your post, and want to say sorry if I came off a bit defensive. I agree w/ you at least on some level, at least in my faith, as a Catholic, there are plenty-o-sentimentals who pray to this saint for a miracle or that saint for a sign, etc. and when something serendipitous (sp?) happens, they are quick to say "God answered my prayer." Well, maybe, but maybe not... maybe it was just a cosmic fart. Who knows... anyway, thanks for the thoughtful post
  15. I think that Bill answered that question better than I would have (as usual). I can't explain why we have a lot of the instincts or emotions that we have, but I can't see how lack of an explanation would prove the existence of God. In fact, I think that's why so many people cling to the idea of some sort of god - because it's a simple answer to anything that cannot be explained. there's a lot more to people's faith in God than just "well, we can't explain that, it must be God." that reasoning sure gets old. people of faith are not just mindless simpletons (not that you're saying that, but that is where that mindset comes from IMO). -the artist formerly known as sinker
  16. i read on another forum that the f-18 the seller sold was completely disassembled, ended up being total crap. this one actually says it's flying... hmmm... and it's gotta bid on it... lordie lordie... -the artist formerly known as sinker
  17. pretty sh*tty isn't it. couldn't the all-mighty govt. put restrictions on the card, just like food stamps? still, once the money is spent on that gucci bag and the louis vitton stuff, it won't be there for food and diapers and clothing... hope the gucci tastes good... -the artist formerly known as sinker
  18. congratulations to you two! I hope you two have many happy years! -the artist formerly known as sinker
  19. 1... old habits die hard 2... not my prob if you can't take my words at face value... too bad you don't have anything relevant to offer re: the question, but I do thank you for calling me on the swearing thing... that's a tough one for me... -the artist formerly known as sinker
  20. very cool pics man, thx for posting. esp. loved the baby's foot in the mommy's belly. -the artist formerly known as sinker
  21. not trying to stir any shit here or anything, serious question... I wonder how the # of atheists/agnostics/christians etc. in skydiving compares to the general population. Wouldn't it be an interesting observation if the number of atheists where significantly higher in skydiving than in the general population? just a random thought... -the artist formerly known as sinker
  22. "Having sex is like playing bridge. If you don't have a good partner, you'd better have a good hand." Woody Allen*** another great woody allen line... "what's wrong w/ masturbation? I'm just having sex w/ the person I love the most!" -the artist formerly known as sinker
  23. you have a very good point there... I hope it all turns out that they DIDN'T just bail on the poor old people... What if it truly WAS a hopeless situation and they honestly couldn't do anything to get them out? What a bad heart rending spot to be in... Misskriss, I hope your pregnancy is going superbly! -the artist formerly known as sinker
  24. Why would people be charged for the deaths of people that had no hope in living through this disaster anyway? What would of happend if they had been evacuated in time and died from heat, exhaustion, etc etc. *** well, for starters, the whole point in evacuating them would be so they wouldn't HAVE to live through the disaster... they could live _outside_ the disaster. second, maybe they _would have_ died from exhaustion, heat, whatever, but it is impossible to know.... third, what was taken from them was time... time to say goodbye to their families, to their loved ones, time for their loved ones to say goodbye to them. fourth, if the caregivers did not TRY to get the victims out, their caregivers betrayed a fundamental, basic trust. IMO, they were abandoned. Just b/c they were old and and critically ill doesn't mean their lives had no value. fifth, the dead in the hospitals are no different from these folks in the nursing home IF and only if the hospital staff were derilect in their duties to TRY and evacuate them. sixth, of course the looters and the rest should be held accountable. but they aren't the only ones... people who abandon the weak, the innocent, the helpless should be held accountable too... -the artist formerly known as sinker
