  1. So why does your graphic say we have a very low understanding of solar effects on climate? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  2. Looking at your attachment Bill, I find it rather worrying that the level of scientific understanding of solar forcing is stated as vey low. Although some scientists have tried to study solar forcing in more detail, their findings are drowned out by the CO2 crowd. Now if we could introduce "Solar Credits" and there was money to be made from them..... mmmm... Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  3. No. Oh yeah! Next year is 2007 and not 2006. Must lay of that Absinthe My guess is that they have probaly got that wrong too. They got wrong not making an incorrect prediction? Have you started New Year celebrations already? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  4. No. My guess is that they have probaly got that wrong too. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  5. Lets get real here.. wow ! Someone thinks the planet has warmed 0.45 C since 1940. Just how did they measure that? With thermometers in build up areas? Temps in Greenland? tree rings? I dunno what's going on, but maybe 0.45C from 1940 is a good thing, maybe it's a bad thing, and most of all it maybe has nothing to to do with CO2. Measure the temperature of the planet guys. Then tell me how you did it. I'm curious about the accuracy of your results. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

  8. Well you all failed miserabley on that one. It was "Bomb The Bass" and "Beat Dis". Still can't find where I can download the radio mix for a dollar or so. Gonna mix a skydiving video to once I get it
  9. Sorry Squeak it's not the one I mean. The very first words on the track are "5 4 3 2 1 Thunderbirds are go". Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  10. if you mean the song from Busted, that's not it. As I said, the song does not have any lyrics to speak of. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  11. I've tried the song lyric search engines but they don't help. I think it's because the song does not really have any lyrics. It starts with "5 4 3 2 1 thunderbirds are go" in the middle someone says "keep this frequency clear". It's not recent and it's style is a bit like "pump up the volume", but I've no idea who sung that either. It might be only be known in GB. I heard on BFBS radio tonight on the way home. Can any give me an artist and title ? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  12. Other.... waiting for the doctors to explain what you have broken and how much surgery you will need to repair it. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  13. NO no no, God gave the idea of logic and science to us. The only reason all our scientific logic and experiements work is because God makes them work. If he stopped messing around with your telescopes and thought patterns you would see the the Sun really does revolve around the earth. Gravity is just an illusion created by God. If you pray really hard maybe you won't need a parachute. The half life of radioative materials is also totally controlled by God. He controlls everything, apart from whether you believe in Him. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  14. Really? First time? See attached. There seems to be quite a bit of water there. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  15. I really do not understand why people here are trying to use logic and evidence to convince people that evolution is the better theory than creationism. If there is an omnipotent God, then what you see and deduce is controllable by God. You can argue till the cows come home about whether this is the case, but neither party can prove anything. 16. I say why should we spend millions cutting back on CO2 ... You answer, because we can cut back on CO2 Lets spend millions on cutting back on reality TV shows. Why? Because we can I thought that the benefits of cutting back on baby stupifying heavy metal pollution (no, not Twisted Sister....which is really not metal but I digress) and increasing energy efficiency were obvious. Apparently not. But I'm with you on the reality show idea. They're worse for your brain that mercury and we get no real benefit in return. And I am with you on the mercury number. Even if it means we will never see Freddie again. But CO2 has not harmed any babies that I know of. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  17. So did it say that the gulf stream is entirely responsible for Europes mild climate and without it we europeans are going to freeze to death? Cos thats what the popular press says. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  18. I say why should we spend millions cutting back on CO2 ... You answer, because we can cut back on CO2 Lets spend millions on cutting back on reality TV shows. Why? Because we can Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  19. Unless the planet stops turning or we no longer have wind the gulf stream is not going to shut down anytime soon. It is not responsible for Europes mild climate anyway. The notion that the Gulf Stream is responsible for keeping Europe anomalously warm turns out to be a myth Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  20. >Will this increase warming further, accelerating the trend? >Or will the higher concentration of water vapor cause more clouds (reflect light; cool the planet) and strong storms (which mix the atmosphere and cool it overall?) There seems to be a lot of uncertainty about what will actually happen. Good, bad, warmer or cooler. Models are predicting what? depends on the model. It appears that your opinion is that we know CO2 should cause some warming. It doesn't matter if it's the sole cause because we can stop people emitting CO2 and every little bit helps. If the planet warms, say by 5°c over the next century will it matter if we can reduce that warming by 0.2 °c? Why should we spend trillions on reducing CO2 emissions if the warming is coming from somewhere else? The sun, cosmic rays, cows farts.... Wind, solar and hydro power all have their place, but once the fossil fuels start to run out we are going to have a problem. Carbon taxes will not solve that problem. By preparing for climate change I did not mean just for a warmer planet, maybe we should also be prepared for a cooler one as well. The latter being more of a disaster . Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  21. There you have it in a nutshell, there are good and bad things about a warmer planet. To take it further, there are many things that may cause the planet to warm. We are targeting one thing, CO2. It is not the solution. The real solution is to find ways of coping with climate change and not to spend billions on coping with CO2 emissions. Changing our CO2 emissions will have little effect on the global temperature. If we really understand what changes the climate we may be in a position to anticipate how the changes affect us and how to prepare for them. Also, although not now but in the future we may be able to control the causes of climate change. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  22. http://climatesci.atmos.colostate.edu/2006/05/05/co2h2o/ From what I gather, water vapour plays a much more important role in the tropics, it's warm an wet there. http://www.newu.uci.edu/showArticle.php?id=5182 Well the good news is that methane levels seem to have stabalized recently. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  23. You see, its not about the trees or the CO2, it's about taxes. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  24. Don't crank the heating up, darling - we need the carbon for our holiday Picture the scene: you've been so good about sticking to your carbon budget, but little Johnny has gashed his head open, and you can't take him by bus to A&E. You pile the kids into the car and, since you're running on empty, stop at a petrol station for fuel. You hand over two pieces of plastic: a credit card and a carbon card. When the attendant swipes the latter, he sees that you don't have enough carbon units to cover the petrol. The computerised till multiplies the missing units by the prevailing carbon price, and a charge is added to your Visa bill. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  25. Sigh.... Looks like the brain washing that CO2 is a pollutant is begining to work. Can't get people worked up about CO2 so lets name it a pollutant. Everyone hates pollutants. What about the logarithmic effect of changing levels of atmospheric CO2 on downwelling radiation (given in Watts per meter squared [Wm-2]). For the tropics the change in forcing from 0-360 ppmv is ~0.4 Wm-2 and from 360-560 ppmv (roughly current to double pre-Industrial Revolution levels) the change is
