i havn't seen anyone mention a springo. they don't have to be ragged out to have shit flare they are fully eliptical turn fast not too sure on the ground hungrynass but they definately don't swoop very well. heatwave swoops o.k. but has a small recovery arc and very twichy on the toggle. diablos give a hell of a ride if you don't release the brakes straght away but i supppose if you aren't swooping then you arent stashing the slider behind your helmet or opening the chest strap first. try a springo they swoop like shit. i started with a single element lens and it worked o.k. the reason i changed to a 'better' lens is i wanted to use the beach and ski setting when there is a layer of high cloud or heaps of snow on the mountains. this brings the colours of the subject out in such conditions instead of being just a silouhette. i didn't think i had any problems with using infinity, in fact i didn't. also single element lenses i have looked through (not mentioning names) are not as wide as they make themselves out to be. for example a .3 was narrower than my .43 if you need it to be very small then go for it but if you don't i suggest buying a kenko they are less than $100 and don't fog as much as other lenses i have seen.and are as wide as they suggest they are. i jumped one once and i was determined not to let go before the pin was pulled and held on a fraction too long, the p/c inflated and wrenched my shoulder. i now have a gammy shoulder. this has never happened to me with a boc but i guess it could. i think throw out rigs look much tidier/cooler. evrything has its pros and cons. if you really want scenery and dont mind flying solo. then you should really think about the lower south island. fox glacier has a d.z. and you have beautiful views of aoraki (our tallest mountain) with surroundin rain forest, lakes glaciers and ocean. queenstown(my d.z.) has a 6300ft agl mountain only a couple of miles from the d.z. spectacular. glenorchy and te anau d.z.' are on the edge of fiordland national park wich is a world heritage park. i'm not saying there is not nice views up north but it is somthing else down here. we have a turbine cresco 750 and operate every day we are able. there is a stronger sport skydiving scene in the north island but if you are coming to new zealand you really would want to see our amazing veiws. lord of the rings was filmed right here for this reason. i hope you enjoy your stay in new zealand.

i have done 1000 on a heatwave 120. it is a great canopy need to pack it well for it to open well (i jump camera)but once it is open it is very nice. never once had a collapse(in turbulance) when others did. i relined it myself and the lineset was a foot longer than the old ones on the 1 and 10 lines. i emailed aerodyne to see what was happening (yes i know spectra shrinks with age but not by 10%) i received no answer after 3 emails so i have lost some confidence in them. great canopy though. still has good flare and it has 1800 jumps now.

as mentioned a hacky is round and tends to flap around when exposed to the air speeds involved in freefly. parachte systems(formaly chute shop) have a pud that has a stiff setion that tucks underneath the riser protection on the side flaps this is the most secure system i have seen. at our d.z. we have a dedicated editer! they use a computer, adobe premier and a camera for importing. the result is absolutely incredible we have a professionaly made leader and fading icons set up on a template. our editer can produce 3 dvd's in a turbine cresco load (20min) i have edited many videos on the camera with dubbing station and produced some pretty good video's but nothing can compare to a fully edited video/dvd that has been done on the computer. good luck in your endeavours "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

if the day is good and the light is good and the sun isn't directly overhead then use auto. if there is a cirrus layer or low light or the sun is directly above then use beach and ski, this gives colour to the subject when it has a bright back ground i.e. on the beachor ski field.so it doesn't look so much of a silhouette i jump with snow covered mountains in the background for half of the year and use it the whole time then. just my opinion "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

from the information i have had available the crossfire1's that had to have modifications due to a manufacture fault. the faults resulted in injury(not too sure of the extent).these faults were made by precision. and from what i understand precision lost its contract to icarus then developed the xaos. don't quote me on it though! so it sounds like the katana can open fast. so back to the issues of this thread it seems icarusNZ is keeping on top of the monster of performance designs. i know the crossfire has proven itself to be the canopy of preferance for camera flyers around these neck of the woods. but the katana has another couple of years to prove itself. more people would be jumping 9 cell elypticals than cross braced canopys. icarus has them sussed(it was precision (as u.s. company) that fucked the name of the crossfire for a while) p.d. has just refining them now. those stulletos may have been ground breaking stuff in thier day but fuck can they open like shit! i have been to physio on a number of occasions because of them(different ones too) and don't want to jump them again! my mate has ther first glx in circulation! fucken cool man. no need for a plane for swooping! you just need the right weather and geography. we have got it here!
