Quote nah i wanna hear stories of people being entangled in the drouge. someone said that could happen. can't imagine it myself, although i have only jumped with strongs. i have seen the footage of a racer tandem they go fast and vector has a smaller drouge too. fallrate could be a problem but once again if you can't stay at the same level you shouldn't be doing it! i have jumped with children(7 years old. ah no bullshit there is no age limit for tandem students in new zealand) of 35 kilo's(dunno lb's we brushed them off in the 60's) and i have jumped with 120kg fat f**ks, needless to say i didn't dock with them either!

*** at my DZ in order to shoot tandem video you have to qualify for the tandem rating (meaning 3 years in sport and 500 skydives) but you also have to have quite a few video jumps before they let you pratice near tandems. Quote here in new zealand you need 1000 jumps (or 750 if you have another rating) + 2 years in the sport to get your tandem rating. filming tandems is how most people here get enough jumps to get a tandem rating! numbers alone don't mean much, currency and skill should be the prerequisate, legally you need 200 jumps to jump with a tandem here! 3 years and 500jumps seems too much to me, i have only been in the sport for 2.5 years and have over 1250 jumps 900 of those are tandem video/stills. 500 seems too little to do tandems. i was suggesting to someone in another thread to dock and spin a tandem for extra fun, many people replied to this suggestion with positive and negative comments! what do you think? i think it adds to the customers expreience, is fun, and looks great on video (and photo's with a wide enough lense) customers have told me it was the best part of the skydive. has anyone had any problems? if so explain how they happened. *** Are you looking for what type of camera, set-up, helmet, etc...? Or are you looking for techniques? Quote a bit of anything really! i mainly film tandems @ the mo,i don't have mega wide lenses! 28mm and .6 but i am gonna buy a (mc zenitar...cheap)16mm and .42 i think these will be a bit wide for a start eh? what lenses are usually used! what to wear? *** Just because you never had a problem doesn't make it safe. According to your profile, you're not a TI. Something to remember is docking on a student by a video guy is up to the TI, it doesn't matter how cool you think it is, if the TI doesn't want you to, don't. Speaking of that, docking on a student doesn't do anything for the video and most of the times tandems student's only half way know whats going on. That's a dangerous combination, people have been hurt doing that before. Quote people have been hurt in all kind of ways skydiving does that make it unsafe should we stop doing it? no i am not a tandem master reason being at my dropzone the tandem masters do between 70 and 180 tandems a month and can get bored and beg for some interaction during the jump! i do less camera jumps but can earn just as much as the tandems! just because i have never jumped a tandem ( except for my 3 mr bills, oops, shh, thats dangerous) doesnt mean i don't know what is involved! if it is fun for the staff then it will be fun for the student also! and as for docking not doing anything for the video. a video with no interaction is a nothing video. skydiving is fun, have some! ***On top of that, there is a difference in tandem videos, there are different standards at different places. The video concession owner at my dz (Byron) is VERY picky as to how the video should look and it is very challenging to get him what he likes, the right angle, the right shots e.a. i believe quality control is important but who say what is right! just becaus byron like those shot doesn't mean the customer wants that! some customers specificly ask me not to film their face up close and concentrate on our magnificent scenery,while others want to be the centre of attention, different stroke for different folks maintain a high standard but mix it up photography is an art.

you guys need to harden up! i have filmed approx 900 tandems and docked with at least half of them! never a problem! the important thing is to let the customer know you are going to do it and 'only' do it if the cutomer is comfortable in freefall! to cut the head off the tandem master is cool for the close up shot but remember the all important photos they look poos if the framing is not right!
