this happened on the world record jumps too. the vigils fired the cypres 1's turned off and wouldn't wake up and the cypres 2's were normal. I hope vigil can sort these issues, they are no relavant for most skydives but not very good publicity. don't quote me on it but i think you will find that icarus origionaly was form NZaerosports only. Gyro Sold the rights to construct them to precision (or something like that) then a couple of people died because of a technical fuck up on the crossfire. Icarus pulled the pin on precision because they fucked up!(then the Xaos was spawned) the crossfire 2 was developed. and is arguablt the best all round mid range canopy on the market. then the rights to the icarus designs were sold to and american company and a spanish company. NOW Daedalus is not Icarus so americans and spanish cant make them. So JVX,GLX, GLS and soon to be JSX are from NZaerosports exclusively. I may be wrong but from what i understand this is how it is. and I was told JVX stands for Jims VX? myself and my partner are in sweden jumping and we are from new zealand! that is almost as far as it is possible to go for jumping?? and now i am doing some tandems in Oslo on a saturday and fly back to stockholm each sunday to do another weeks traing at Gryttjom. Which by the way is a fucking awesome dropzone with an AN 28 and a twin otter running all week. cheap jump tickets too and a really friendly vibe!! there is no 'I'm too cool for you' types here! everyone helps out and there is the largest skydive sauna in europe(possibly the world) and it is mixed gender and naked!!!! feels a bit awkward at first but nobody gives a shit! I still have some CCM Reebok pump Hockey skates! I've never had the co2 cartrige though but the manual pump is quick enough to deflate and inflate between shifts!! I have a vector 3 that has many jumps on it, after i pack it usually has a few wrinkles on the 2 side flaps, what i do is bend the rig over my knee a bit with the back pad on my knee i push down holding the yoke and the bottom of the container. this makes it all nice and smooth! the reserve packjob has alot to do wit it too, my rigger has the same container so he knows it inside and out!! hope that helps? I think it is really important to remember the safety concerns you have learned while getting you ratings. when I first got my rating I was working with an older guy who had 10000+ jumps and had his tandem rating since the 80's. complacency had slipped right in to his programme and he would constantly hassle me for continuing with what I had been taught. it was a real battle sometimes,for example he would allow customers to take large SLR's and Video cameras etc whe i most definately would not. i restrict them to small digital cameras with a long string hoop attached, the camera goes under the jumpsuit and under the chast strap! my work buddy however insisted that the camera goes above the chest strap. we were jumping a C185 and alot of the time the customers were friends. Some were annoyed with me because thier friends were allowed to do things they were not. he was the one that had the problems with cameras coming out in freefall! busted zips on the jumnpsuits etc. there are many other examples but the moral of the story is that don't let complacency be a part of your jump, even if the experienced guys are doing things you think is unsafe! it can be a real fight sometimes but there is no compremise for safety! I prefer outside camera too. it is much better footage, if it is done correctly. handcam gets the reaction after the opening that is an advantage but i think the landing footage is crap!! to most customers this is the point where they are convinced that skydiving is safe and it is an important moment to capture! 1 did 1800+ jumps with my TRV18 it was (obviouly) top mounted and encased i did have to make use of the warrante 1time but it turned out someone had spilled some kind of sugary drink on it , the warrantee gu ws cool and still didn't charge me.I also droped it onto concrete from waist height a couple of times, That camera was the size of a toaster but stong as a tank! i now have a PC350 because i am filming freestyle i want to communicate and don't need a stills, rawas rock! I am seeing more and more mention of handcam! my current d.z. and my last one both do handcam only. the one before that wanted to but the camera guys wouldn't have it!
