Crossfire 2 - to what crossbraced???
rhys replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
So now canopies have a consciousness? How does a canopy know how many jumps you have? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
the only honda i have owned was a 3 door 1980 civic that cost me NZ$50 about US$30. I used it for a ski field access road vehicle and it drove on ice and up washed out tracks. there wasn't anything I could throw at it that it couldn't handle. the only reason it ever stopped when i didn't want it to was when it ran out of gas Honda bodies are pieces of shit that always rust out along the joins though. the motors are wonderful and outlive the body's most of the time, if they are serviced that is!!!!! a timing belt should be replaced when it is specified. Is it anything like the Atmonauti 2000 video where they are exiting a porter on the angle and flying relative with the aircraft? In their later video you can see ground to air footage of someone docking on the wingtip. They did not put the good footage on for similar reasons the Video that prompted this thread was removed. I wanna see that video now godammit!! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I too have a pc350 I am very happy with. Get a sony pc for side mount and whatever you can get your hands on. they don't make them anymore! If you can get a PC9 that is in good condition that was the best one they ever made IMHO. but a few years old now. Crossfire 2 - to what crossbraced???
rhys replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I wasn't referring to reserves or CRW canopies, I was referring to high performance crossbraced canopies. An FX, Velocity or a Xaos21 etc will have a lower aspect ratio than a VX, JVX, Xaos27 etc. this is the type information I assumed the original poster was after? Once you have you toes on the top skin of the wing you don't need to hold on! what are you scared of? hitting the ground Nice effort. the hardest part is getting your feet up there, once they are there use the strength in your feet to hold on and simply pint your toes to let go. have fun, rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Crossfire 2 - to what crossbraced???
rhys replied to airborne82nd's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hi, I can't say about a Xaos as I've never jumped one but i wouldn't say a stock velocity is hard core? they open nice and are not too high aspect ratio. I would suggest moving to a 7 cell (= not so hi aspect ratio) crossbrace like FX or velo and get a cheap (= 700 jumps+ second hand) one because you will want a different canopy(= 9 cell high aspect ratio) before long.Unless you are loaded that is?if you are loaded buy a new one and start a quiver. I went from Crossfire to FX and then to JVX, I am very pleased with that progression. Had I got the JVX sooner I would have hindered my progress. That is how it worked for me anyway. Have fun, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
No.... well yeah i suppose?, we have regular size condoms and Aisian size for all the Mongoloid people living in the country. I imagine there is African size too, but not too many Negroids in NZ. The Maori are mongoloids. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I read this post a couple of years ago and realised the birds in my area didn't fly so high. Now I am in east africa, there are many marabou, these things are ugly and huge, they thermal to heights higher than our plane will climb. What are the chances of a collision? it doesn't stop me from jumping, but they would do some damage. A large male Marabou Stork, standing up to 1.5 m tall and weighing nearly 9 kg, is one of the largest flying birds in the world. http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Animals/Birds/Facts/FactSheets/fact-maraboustork.cfm I have flown with them under canopy and i have seen them at well over 5000'agl, they can get much higher than that but generally closer to Mt, Kilimanjaro where that land is also high. You do not 'need' cash!... we still have it for the elderly etc. they don't like this fan dangle new technology. If I want to pay someone I use the internet and put money into their bank account.. if you lose your card or it gets stolen you still have all your money. This is not the case with cash and the main reason I avoid using it. In conclusion, Yes we do have cash and we do have fat people but the reason we do not have drive through ATM's (shit maybe there is now?)is not a lack of technology or infrastructure. It is a lack of demand. we don't have super size sodas and fries eitherour 'large' size is the American regular size. I just did my first jump with my new altitrack. So easy to read with smooth movements of the needle. Thanks to the Gurus at L&B for developing such wonderful instruments. Now I have to read up on my new optima. And service... everybody knows L&B's service is second to none but I thought I would mention how great their service was. Thanks L&B "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

We don't have them in New Zealand either, You couldn't call us behind the times as we were the frist country to be saturated with electronic banking. A, we are not fat and Lazy B, we have eft-pos/electronic withdrawals at every place you can purchase something so you don't actually need cash! You guys need to catch up with the times man. Bank machines and cash are so last century. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

'The right to bear arms' A stupid redneck law designed for life 2 centuries ago and putting many lives in danger and desensitizing people to the dangers of the availability of firearms. I like the fact that I have only ever seen a hand gun on a police officer and on television. gun crime is very rare in my country. I never actually extract it! just pull it until the bag lifts and push it back in. no hassle. the rip cord is bach in place before the slider comes down. I'm jumping sigma now though so no worries about that anymore and also a number of now impossible malfunctions. I like sigma I would jump strong if i have to, or vector 2 for that matter but prefer to stray away from it if i can. It is an interesting subject, you have to take into consideration that $2 a day is plenty in many cases, here in Tanzania you could buy over2kg of vegetables, some rice and a few sweets for under $2. The scary reality is that some people only have $2 for a week! there is a lot of corruption, Tanzania has Oil, gas, Daimonds, Tanzanite, tourism, etc. where is the money? It goes into Mercedez Benz's and BMW's for the select few making the German stats even higher and the county no better off. A punter pays $650 for park fees just to climb mt. kilimanjaro but there are hungry people outside the gates!!! there is an uneven distribution of wealth but we can't assume that because someone only has $2 a day they are unhappy or malnourished. A doctors visit is only $1 and you can buy medicine for $1-$2, someone in the USA that has $10 a day to live on is much less fortunate than a tanzanian with $1. dunno what all that means but using some examples sometimes does not represent the reality of the situation because some cannot comprehend the differences. having said all that there is plenty of poverty here but not too many complaining, and you never/hardly ever see a baby crying because they are not spoiled from birth. Who is in a better condition a billionaire with a heart problem, no friends and no happiness, or an African with plenty of friends, a plate of Ugali and a smile on their face? money is not everything! I would like to have HD now! the only problem is that they require a top mount so if you want to bring your SLR then there can be a problem if you don't have a FTP or similar. I'm really looking forward to having one camera that does it all! but from what i have read that is still some time away. I want to move to HD because the footage is good enough to use on news segments on television etc. I will continue to shoot standard DV even after I purchase a HD cam so I can get some nice photos as well. I like my rawa and don't want to go back to a clunky flat top. + my PC350 has been very good to me, why get rid of it? We from my point of view is that tandems are far less complicated than AFF jumps. the customer feels 1000% more secure and although there are more possible malfunctions if you don't have the up to date gear, the jump is far more simple. The Human factor in AFF is huge and people react in some very strange ways when they are scared. No matter how hard a tandem student struggles they cannot get free. This is not the case in AFF and with my small taste of being an AFF jump master, I know first hand! Quite a Bizarre veiwpoint from that particular DZO. This mandate affects my work as my partner has a Odyssey and the has never had the RSL fitted since new! She gave away the lanyard a year ago and now the closest rigger is 4000k'm away we have bookings and cannot legally offer video? it is just the 2 of us here. where do we stand! we are in africa. Plenty of loads, Good price, first in first served (not tandem priority) manifest, (multiple )turbine aircraft, bunkhouse, friendly to all disciplines = can participate in all disciplines with out wierd looks! and a great bonfire and people, My favorite so far is Stockholms Parachute club, Sweden. 2 twin turbines (AN28 and twin otter), free bunkhouse, good food , good people, cheaper (than anywhere else in northern Europe anyway) jump tickets, good food and shit loads of skydiving! tandems are the small minority there! Nah, totally relevant! I was pressured to get my AFF rating before my tandem rating in Australia. this was weird to me because my roots fell deep within tandem factories and I went through the static line progression, I was totally familiar with tandems and totally un-familiar with AFF! AFF is so under rated and I felt I was not ready to get my AFF rating but there were others that were less ready already doing it, there were also pressures. So I am of mixed thoughts on this. In Australia and most of the rest of the world you only need 500 jumps to get a tandem rating. this is a little low but achiveable. but to think that people with less experience than this are taking AFF training is horrific! In new Zealand and south africa you need to have 1000 jumps to get a tandem rating so gaining an AFF rating before this would be understandable. But at the end of the day, If you have enough passion to do AFF as it is a Huge job and highly under paid and under appreciated! you have to love it to do it. So if the T/M's at you DZ have to be AFF I's then they will more than likely 'NOT' Be Grumpy tandem masters! Good Idea!
