  1. Hi Rob, Yes i do love africa! Yes, depending on the time of year? P/M sent. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  2. I have just been to a small museum in the middle of the Serengeti plain here in Tanzania africa. There is concrete evidence that a primitive form of human walked there, actually the oldest known form of human. A volcano erupted 3.5 million years ago and on the ash walked 3 primitive humans. Also a large cat (a leopard if i remember correctly) an elephant and an extinct horse type creature with 3 claws instead of hoofs. As well as the fosslised footprint of the creatures there are bones and all sorts. Another layer of ash covered these footprints and preserved them until the 1950's when archaeologists discovered them. Now these type of findings are contradictory to the teachings of the Bible are they not? If Christian bashing is defined by not believing Christian beliefs and asking Christians to explain the reason their teachings do not coincide with actual discoveries then yes I am a Christian basher. I believe everyone has the right to believe what they want. To preach creationism and not evolution is 'IGNORANT'.Everything was created yes..........at the hands of god for the benefit of human beings................NO WAY. I'll post the awesome pictures from the place in the next day or so. For all you Christians out there that donate money to the church.... I suggest you donate it to the people that are trying to save all the amazing creatures that are very close to extinction due to the arrogant belief that this planet is here to be exploited by Human beings. Cheetahs are in real trouble, rhinos are very hard to see. but I saw 1 :) and many others run the risk of being extinct. you vicar does not need a new BMW but these creatures really need help right now! 3. I don't want to sound like a scratched record, but i also don't have time to read all the posts here! we have had numerous discussions in the past about exit separation etc and 'HOW TO ADAPT' to new disciplines. Swooping is the same. There have been frequent canopy collisions as well as people stoving themselves into the ground. people have cutaway too low and have had double malfunctions, tandems get thumped in because operators continue to push wind limitations due to $$$$ Do you ban students because they are a liability? Swooping is selling canopies. Why do performance designs use top level swoopers to promote their canopies when the major market for them is sabre 2's etc.?..... BECAUSE SWOOPING SELLS. people love swooping, People love danger. If you are not into risk then don't own an operation that depends on the judgment of the customers. Period. If people are swooping in a main landing area the problem is the fault of; A, the operator if they have failed to provide a high performance specific landing area....solution = provide a high performance specific landing area. B, the person in question if they are not supposed to be swooping there....solution ban the said jumper for a period of time to entice them tho think about what they have just done. People will always make mistakes, those mistakes can be reduced by education, rules and having appropriate equipment. Banning swooping is not going to help the problem. If it is banned you will always get the odd few that will break the rule, if you accommodate swooping and have a plan in place then you will gain more respect and in turn will gain more customers. I agree with Brian that this is all a knee jerk reaction and some of these occasions (fatalities) are the outcome of poor risk management by the operators combined with poor judgment from the said victims. 4. If they perform like an Xfire2 then i'm sold! please keep us updated if anyone else is allowed to jump this guys new canopy. I'm sure they will want to. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  5. I jumped a diablo for 30 or so jumps, That is what i remember most. the roller coaster ride before the brakes were released. Does the Neos do that? is that from your own experiences? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  6. I'm not sure what that is but i'll ask him when he arrives in a couple of days. thanks "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  7. 1, Yes she is cute! see attached picture! that was a bad hair day! 2, we are right next to the highest freestanding Mountain in the world. we have amazing views of African savanna, glaciers, with fresh water springs and mountains in the distance. how do you expect to get photos like the 2nd attached photo with a hand cam? we charge US$150 for stills of DVD and US$190 for both. It is worth having outside camera. also when would we get to jump for fun if that were the case?....we wouldn't unless we had only 1 customer! and yes we do take photos and video of the customers under parachute as well, if they do not get motion sickness! 8. 1, 2700' 2, maximum 30 degrees C on the ground (@ 2700') 3, we go to 9000' agl/ 1200' amsl "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  9. That is the kins stuff we want to hear. when we had both tanks full, +a US18gallon extra tank in the rear and 420 litre jerry cans full. and pilot + me we were climbing at 700feet per minute for up until 4000'. we were not allowed any higher but it wanted to keep on going!!! 10. Ho Rob, Thanks for that, Our air strip is 1.2 kilometres long and the feces are at least another 500. from the end of the tarmac. I'm going to get seat belts fitted in a configuration that allows ether 4 single jumpers or 2 tandems. How are yo anyway, we just got back from Seronera and Ngorongoro last night. Leigh managed to sneak in the balloon on the empty pax and we saw the Big 5 in 24 hours!!! shit loads of Lions and I couldn't help remembering when you were taking a piss outside the hotel gates in Zim when that elephant stomped the ground in front of you . Are you still doing the boogie in July? Oh and Paul (the balloon pilot) says hi. He's quitting the (balloon) game after 17 years and going into scuba! 11. thanks for those statistics, we used to jump 5 jumpers from 12000' in a modified wide body 182 with normally aspirated 206 engine fitted. No problem! I am not trying to be unsafe or greedy. I am not making the profit. I just want to things correctly and efficiently. Our little reims rocket 172 has a 210 hp Rolls Royce built injected continental engine. in the flight manual it has specification for flight at 15000' with cruise performance charts etc for that level. Performance specs straight from the manual. maximum gross weight = 2500 lbs service ceiling = 17500'!!! empty weight (approx) = 1410 wing loading 14.3 lbs/sq ft engine (Rolls Royce manufatured) continental injected 210hp rated at 2800 rpm It performs/climbs better than the 230 hp 182 and it has the same room on the inside give or take a couple of centimetres. I weigh 71 kg our new instructor weighs 73 kg and the camera gal weighs 50 kg. we are all small people! The pilot is about 80 kg but I don't know for sure. All I need to know is that the plane is not restricted to 3 passengers + pilot but restricted to its weight and balance requirements. I need documentation to prove that. If it is legal to take only 4 jumpers in a 182 that is enough proof, they only have 4 seats also. I need to prove this to the TCAA. we only jump fro 9000'agl Flight level 110 Thanks for all the time and input. 12. Deepseed have been around for a few years now! Their suits seem to be good, I don't have one but have friends that do. Just because they have just started advertising in the US doesn't mean they are inexperienced. My partners Bevsuits Competition RW suit fell to pieces after less than 100 jumps and a few minutes in a tunnel. It fell to pieces half way through her 1 hour tunnel session before a competition in a Muslim country (Malasia). She was showing some leg so to speak. but her tunnel time lost its purpose once the thing was significantly damaged. So the big brands don't necessarily give the best product. Leigh's bevsuit was supplied to here for Jump for the cause so maybe they had a huge order and the quality was less but even so i wouldn't purchase a suit off them after that effort! Try Deepseed and see how you go! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  13. I still think hand guns should not be available! However I did have the opportunity to shoot a Glock the other day so I though I would see what all the fuss is about. what a fucking pea shooter! here's me bracing myself and it feels like a cork gun! If i owned a gun it would be a 303 or something for hunting. you might as well have a decent barrel so you could actually hit something without having to be 2 meters away from it! what are you going to use you gun for? 14. I had a late night ciggie when I was in Zanzibar about 5 weeks ago and felt quite ill afterwards. I haven't had a cigarette since. I had been smoking for 19 years since the age of 13! I don't really miss it at all. I do have the odd pang but for no more than a few minutes. I just look how stupid people look while smoking. and imagine what it does to thier lungs. I can't actually believe I smoked for so long! I suggest the book called 'the easy way to give up smoking' or something like that. it explains all the psychology behind the addiction and I gave up for 4 months after reading it. Working for an asshole got me back in the habit 1.5 years ago but this time no problem. Keep it up! Rhyso "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  15. maybe I stand corrected? (on the question of whether dinosaurs are mentioned in the bible that is) you lost me there What you learn depends where you went to school! At my school i was taught....... Tuataras (a reptile native to New Zealand) along with many other species are still kicking today and were kicking around in the Jurassic period! Most of the dinosaurs are extinct but many still remain. Most of them (especially the large ones) were killed in the fallout of an impact of a projectile from space. There is a particular layer in the sedimentary layers of the earths crust around the complete circumference of the planet to prove it!!!! Fiordland national park has the same, for the most part, vegetation if not similar to the Jurassic period. The national park also has 'World Heritage' Park status for this simple fact. The south of the south island has remained out of the ocean since the Jurassic period and there are reefs of petrified forests along the ocean shore to prove it. There also happens to be shit loads of oil there to for the same reasons! a day before mankind some people are gullible aren't they! 16. so you are a bit slow to update your profile then good on you for the decision. I bet 12 or 14 years ago it was a hot topic with a lot of debate? Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  17. I figured that much! What about the rest of the universe? any mention of that apart from the odd reference to the stars in the sky? I'd pay $20 to go see a whole bunch of Christians soaking up the bullshit. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  18. I have searched and asked but i need some help please. We have just purchased an aircraft described in the title. I have been in a C172 with two tandems before, C172's and C182's are usually 4 seater aircraft. All Cessna DZ's's I have been to have put 5 jumpers in the 182's and 4 jumpers in 172. From my understanding it is all about weight and balance. Skydiving is new here in Tanzania and we are breaking ground by setting up here. I am in the process of getting permission to put 4 jumpers in our grunty little 172 The TCAA will be happy to let us if we can prove that it is legal elsewhere. Is there any Plane buffs out there that can help me here please, cough cough diverdriver cough cough, I am one of the instructors and I only weigh 71 kg and Leigh is the camera girl and she only weighs 50kg. We have heaps of room to play with and if we can get the 4 pax + pilot on board our fun jumps will increase by a significant amount! and we will be able to do 2 tandems at a time when no-one gets camera.(which is not that often ) Such a waste of space at the mo. we can only have 3 jumpers in the 230hp C182 we are using because it is considered a 4 seater aircraft!!!! Insurance is no problem just getting proof that is is legal to take 4 jumpers in a 172 anywhere else in the world is holding us back. then we are away! any help or referrals will be kindly appreciated. Thanks, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  19. I like the name of this thread, I have been doing quite a few tandems in the last few days and the plane is off to get new piston rings and we are off to the Ngorogoro crater and then to do a Balloon Safari in the Serengeti. I want some of that action. I'll be videoing everything! Everyone that I have talked to that has been in the Ngorogoro crater have seen large cats of some description. I want leopards and a large pride of Lions maiming some shit! Bring it on! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  20. Well said, I always wondered where dinosaurs come into the bible? are they even mentioned? I can't be bothered to filter through the bits and pieces let alone trying to interpret it all to find out. No Christian has ever been able to answer me when i ask them either. let alone any mention of any other planets or solar systems. Everything was built for mankind according to them! I would love to visit that place you mentioned one time , i'm sure it would be good for a laugh "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  21. Hi, Ground launching has recently been dubbed the more appropriate term Speedflying, Although this is how paragliding began many years ago, Skydivers have more recently been 'Ground launching' high performance parachutes with the intention of swooping the ground rather than flying in the air! Paragliders are doing the same thing with their own equipment recently, and have developed or should i say undeveloped their wings to a smaller 9 cell configuration in order to fly faster and in higher wind speeds. All paragliders are launched by foot and therefore the term 'ground launching' becomes indescriptive. The term 'Speedflying' has been adopted as it also differentiates between the new sport and regular paragliding. What all this means is you are approaching a new sport/discipline that has limited participants. There are people around that can teach you, there is also regulated courses available but generally you have to travel a long distance for those. There are plenty of posts here on DZ.com and probably more so on canopypiloting.com I suggest you read through as much as these as you can to get a better understanding of what you could be getting yourself into, This will help you to keep safe and get the most enjoyment out of it. The good news is you can begin by practicing kiting your canopy in an open area with a few knots of wind, No slope is necessary but it sure does help. If you can find a small gentle slope then practice kiting your canopy over your head. Talk to and watch paragliders launching their wings, but remember you too will be one of the pioneers of this sport if you begin, Speedflying can go wrong very quickly. Please be safe! 22. Damn, next time i am in Europe for more than a couple of weeks I'll come to the Ukraine! keep the good times rollin, Rhyso "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  23. Probably just rumor? While at the world champs, some teams considered the French freefliers (Babylon) to be performing two way freestyle not freefly while the French called the US freefly 'Ghetto freefly'! The French deserved to win, even if they are on a salary! IMO when the focus is on turning points and who cares what your chin and toes are doing it is VRW, if it looks nice and yes 'graceful' then it is freefly. Don't worry freefly will not change to VRW at the world championships. VRW is another event altogether. It will take a few years to be included at the WPC but it will not take over from freefly, of that I am sure. It would be silly to take freefly away from the artistic events. 24. Nice work bro, I wanna come and play sometime, i will be in Russia for the world cup in July and August. Is there any good sites around Moscow? I am filled with envy when I watch that video! thanks for sharing, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
  25. From where I am, it has always been 6 months, that is IMO the best time frame. The price increased from NZ$40 to NZ$50 some time back with my local guy in NZ. 4 month cycle has always been too strict IMO, the change to 6 moths is appropriate. Riggers should charge $50 a reserve pack, not because they are getting lees work but because that is how much it should cost. If you have a loft and shit loads of gear and offer more advanced repairs then charge appropriately. I would pay more to have my reserve packed by such an establishment!
