Please explain what you mean, as I do not wish to mis interpret what you are saying. How many people have been grounded in AZ since the new Rule? has the chance of a canopy collision been eradicated? My argument is that such rules do not prevent canopy collisions as a whole, some of the people advocating such rule changes are whining about the declining numbers in our sport and what about the rights of those % of people that want to make more than a 90degree or 180degree turn? Attitudes like yours are quite self centered and your signature line is another piece of evidence that my intuition is correct. I'm not advocating high performance landings in the presence of other canopies. But see how long ASPEN kept their ban on snowboarding going . Once the olympics came around this new 'FAD' had become almost mainstream. With Paragliding companies (over 8 of them now) making speed flying wings that are basically 9 cell high performance parachutes and one parachute company making a speed flying canopy that can be deployed as a parachute. It is only a matter of time before paragliders become skydivers in the quest to go even faster. The skydiving industry should welcome new disciplines and allow for them, just like 4 way and freefly, swooping has the potential to save a rapidly declining sport but arrogant and ignorant opinions are trying to force the discipline away. Fortunately that cannot happen. Some will lose business and others will make shit loads Take Mile High skydiving centre for example. You watch that place grow at an alarming rate and then you watch paragliding companies make 'parachutes' for swooping. Performence designs should be sweating over all this. There is probably well over 100 times more paragliders on this earth than skydivers, this new phenomenon should not be ignored. There are 84 definitions listed above for the word make and the word made is the verb of make. I do not believe in God as interpreted by the bible or any other religion that has been explained to me. But to say the Earth was not made makes me think you assume it was always there? If the earth and all the other planets in our solar system for that matter were formed by a collision from a 'Hunk of matter' with the sun or from the supposed original 'big bang', Then they were in fact, made. You cannot prove otherwise so you cannot make such statements. It is not as black and white as you make it out to be. Where did god come from? Simple that question is what we call a no brainer. The answer..................the human mind. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

For fucks sake cut it out you lot will ya? The earth is inhabitable because it is a certain distance from the sun which is one of the many stars in the universe. Everything on this earth came from either the stuff that the sun is made out of or pieces of stuff flying through the universe. Other stars have planets we know that much and there are potentially trillions of stars. You can therefore realistically conclude that is it is feasible for other planets to contain life. the fact that it is probable or not could be argued away until you are maggot food! (I liked that one) This thread is not an astronomy class it is a question of WHY DO YOU CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK Stick to the subject please i have spilled my beans I would appreciate if others would do the same so we can get on and amend our beliefs to what it is that we have learned. So a dz that restricts all landings would be safer in your opinion, than one that has the common sense to supply a separate landing area? Not likely, There will always be the small few the will break the rule, even in spite they need to break the rule if they are to be banned or punished and while they break the rule you could be in their way. A DZ that can get their head around airspace and will allow for all disciplines/ approaches will more likely gain the respect of all the patrons of the said dropzone and the result will be a safer place to be. Metaphorically speaking the sun 'is your mother' and herr life began millions of years ago when a 'globule'(also a metaphor and relatively speaking) of the said hydrogen, helium, iron and rock etc. became separated from the said mass and was fortunate enough to remain in the magnetic field of the said mass. Also fortunately the said globule settled in such a way that it created its own magnetic field that allowed enough defense from the solar radiation to allow an atmosphere that allowed all forms of known life to evolve. We can also plummet through it (the atmoshspere) at 12000'/minute with our trusty parachutes. There is most certainly some kind of MAGIC involved and this is what we call life. But life is also dependent on and was created by a combination for the said Mass combined with a constant addition of H20 and other such matter that is constantly being added to our atmosphere from other realms and also on the configuration that resulted of the said movement of the said matter from the said Mass. So I am not worshiping helium and rock I am respecting where we came from. I don't want to debate with atheists as I am most inclined to agree with them. I haven't done enough research to know if I am one myself or not. Am I still going to hell "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

See the above post. I thought I was the one 'telling it like it is'? There is one thing say there is no evidence. and there is another to say there is evidence to the contrary. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

Yes agreed. But we do have to respect what we have, does that come into the beliefs of and atheist? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

I was using the word WORSHIP as a metaphor. agreed. I'm not perfect but I am aware. I am deeply saddened when I see plastic bottle etc. on beaches yet others will throw their rubbish over their shoulder without a thought. does that count? "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
-
I do honor my mother and father, they gave life to me and theirs gave life to them. what started first the chicken or the egg. To say that the Sun has no intelligence as a reason not to respect it and the Earth as well for that matter shows a complete lack of respect. What do you believe? if you look at canopypiloting.com you will see that is not the case. But I have to agree that American take a while to catch up with the rest of the world, take the metric system for example "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

MY ASS from dictionary.com re·li·gion /rɪˈlɪdʒən/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ri-lij-uhn] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. 2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion. 3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions. 4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion. 5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith. 6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice. 7. religions, Archaic. religious rites. 8. I believe the world has been created by a force that we do not fully understand. but not for human beings and life has evolved due to the constant change in the environment. I believe many others think the same way i do. What do you call us? Can you all please cut the crap and not argue over the bullshit and tell us 'WHY YOU CARE'. Most current religions focus on what happens to an individual at the time of death, how we should treat each other and how to fight against the other relions. this effects us all. I couldn't buy a beer when i really needed one the other day and i couldn't sleep because of the noise from a local mosque, I can't purchase anything i want on a Sunday and I cant get bacon in certain shops and beef in others. meanwhile i have to trip over rubbish and walk through fucking disgusting pools of polluted puddle water, see extreme poverty and watch a very beautiful part of the world being destroyed at an alarming rate. Yet amoung all this there are shining mosques, temples and churches, they have desperate people in need all around them yet the religious leaders are driving BMW's and Mercedes Benz's. It is disgraceful (pun intended) there are some serious questions that need to be answered and these supposed faiths are "A JOKE" Most posts on this thread are once again clouding the issue of what the tread is about. move your arguments about the nitty gritties elsewhere please and that includes moderators, you should know better. I wanna hear some explanations form you Christians/ Muslims/ Hindus/ Atheists etc. We need to start worshiping our planet and our star that we call the sun, these are the things that have given and supported our life. I'm a left hand man, because that has been the most common pattern at DZ's I have jumped at. i plan on practicing to be proficient in both directions but my left hand approach is most definitely the strongest at present. blue skies, Rhys "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

As you are a student then I will assume you are young and then we can all forgive you for being naive. You should watch 'The Wall' which is a movie that the song you listened to seems to be the anthem for. You will have to watch it many times to understand it unless you watch it wiht a PF buff. They are up there as one of my all time favorite bands. Anything after 'Shine on you crazy diamond' is pretty crap though, I like the twisted 'See Emily play/Syd Barret' stuff, but unfortunately he went crazy! I've got a bike you can ride it if you like, It's got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good. I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it. If you didn't notice I am also into speedflying. If you have ever ground launched your zp canopy you will notice it gets 'RINSED OUT' very quickly. I need a canopy for ground launching, big ways, and tight demos. The GLSxf does all of those things. GLS stands for Ground Launch Sport, the XF part makes reference to the xfire shape (or something like that, ask Jim Slaton or Gyro) Once these canopies are around for sometime you will begin to see the benefit of paying the higher price with the continued performance and resale value. Sail will last much longer than ZP. As for the pack volume, wouldn't you rather have a reserve that is not over loaded? Ridiculously small containers may be cool but overloading your reserve (like far too many people do) is not a very good idea. Especially if you don't have experience flying Square F111 canopies..........thump! I assume a GLSxf 109 will fit into the same container as my JVX hybrid 84! close anyway. I will be purchasing a new container in the short future and this will be a requirement. I will stick with a 120 reserve. Those are my reasons that I want GLSxf. are you still baffled? No Name, who are you spiceberg? monkey boy, hmmm............. let me guess. ???? I'm applying to take a diploma graduate at the current dropzone that I am 'managing'. this student will have a camera slot as soon as they are ready! they will be responsible for manifest, editing some sport packing etc. They will also have free slots in tandem loads as we do. graduates are being employed in the U.S., Spain, Australia.... The graduates can choose where they want to go. So if you call a dropzone and say "pay for my diploma course" obviously they will laugh at you. if you say "i am doing the diploma course and I want to come and work for you for 3 months 'for free' and after that you can decide whether you want to employ me or not." then you will be welcomed with open arms, if you work hard and show that you have passion and dedication, they will be silly to not employ you. like I have said previously; you get out of it what you put into it. By simply hanging out at a D.Z and 'doing it the slow way' you will take at least 2 times longer to get where you want to go. I don't believe I am lucky, I emptied rubbish bins and packed tandems for free, then I did it for a little bit of money until i decided I would be waiting too long at that DZ for a camera job so I applied to 40 DZ's and had 3 job offers the next day. I then sold all my assets aside from a few clothes and my skydiving gear and went for it. 8 months later the DZ that I left asked me to come back! they knew i wanted it and they klnew i would do it well. I have worked hard to get where I am and have gambled my wellbeing on order to get here. Now I am loving it! all in 6 years! shit it doesn't seem that long! This is a very good question. The reason I 'care' so much what others believe, is that it effects me and the rest of the world on an alarming scale. Call me a hippie but I believe the most important thing in life is to preserve the amazing bits and pieces that remain of this amazing planet that fortunately for us, still happens to be habitable. The teachings of 'most' religions (especially Christianity) are geared up around the existence of human beings. They seem to dismiss the importance of preserving the ecology and find it far more important to not drink alcohol etc on certain days or to pray every night because god will reverse all their wrongdoings if they have Faith. It seems to be more of a social structure and hierarchy than a way to appreciate what we have. I come from one of the last untouched corners of the globe and i know what that part of the world should look like. If you are from the united states, what did you neighborhood look like 300 years ago? Europeans 1000 years ago? Fortunately modern man has only had his hands on that part of the world for less than 200 years and discovered the importance of conservation before it was 'all' used for commercial gain. Usually missionaries are some of the first to arrive when a new country is colonised. That was when all the forests were burned to make farms and a new economy. The missionaries had their heads in their bibles and forgot to mention that these creatures and plants that are being destroyed while developing these countries play a role in the well being of the environment as a whole. Why, They didn't know themselves, yet they had the audacity to preach the meaning of life. I get really pissed off when people are so focused on the fairy tale they call a religion and forget about the importance of life itself. DZ's that have restrictions on swooping
rhys replied to Sonicfreefly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
can you please define the term 'hook turn' in a more descriptive manner? what does the swedish dropzone you are talking about consider a hook turn to be? I thing such rules are probably quite good but shouldn't be restricted to jump numbers but ability. I know some jumpers with over 1000 jumps that find it fun to put themselves in the corner and dig themselves out. that shit scares me! "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
It surprises me that you say that. Is it not completely obvious that the whole thing (religion) is an elaborate scam and as the title of this tread suggests, you would have to be completely gullible to believe it? As a scientist you cannot argue against the fact that there is concrete evidence to the contrary of the teachings of the bible. In my opinion it is all a load of crap and only useful for installing relatively good morals in lost individuals. But what do I know! Responding to "Swooping is not a crime"
rhys replied to pop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is just common sense, anyone who argues against that is an idiot! not allowing more than a 270 degree approach is banning swooping and we all know that has been done. "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix -
I voted for paragliding and Ground launching. I also think a pilots forum is a good idea. plenty of us do not get to talk to the pilots at the local DZ as they have a hemorrhoid ring under their ass and never leave the aircraft. they can answer some very good questions. You will find that ground launching is a discipline of skydiving and Paragliding and is actually now referred to as Speed Flying to define it from regular paragliding. Paraglider companies have developed (or should i say Undevolped) their wings to 9 cells for the use of soaring in strong winds and flying much faster than they could previously. This new discipline will entice paragliders to start skydiving and in particular SWOOPING (did you hear that out there in AZ) as they will want to go even faster by initiating speed from a high performance approach. There are many many more paragliders than skydivers so I feel our sport will get a boost from this new way of thinking. A paragliding forum should suffice and speed flying could be included in that. Thanks for the great website. keep the good work up! blue skies, Rhyso "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
