This trend is not only the product of greedy DZO's wanting to push sport skydivers away. A jump ticket in New Zealand costs in the regon of twice the price that it does in the USA due to the availability of aircraft and fuel. Also equipment is probably 20% more expensive in New Zealand in comparison due to supply, demand and shipping costs. Sport skydiving is not dead in New Zealand, it will not die, but it sure as hell is taking a good beating due to the current status of the administration. Things are changing, the industry is still growing and the current NZPIA have new competition from a sport skydiving orentated opponent the NZSA. The NZPIA are being/have been investigated by the CAA and the Depatment of Economic Development for monopolising tactics. Soon all operators will need a part 135 that will bring the standards to commercial aviation level. This in my opinion is a very good thing. This will probably increrase the price (a little) but will rid the industry of the dodgy private arcraft owner type goings on that can make working in the industry not only uncomfortable but dangerous. So yes USA, your industry is probably likely to undergo a similar transformation due to economics. Better get in behind that petition or.... Buy your book of 1000 jumps now!! It is not true, all canopies are different. Jvx's must be flown well, and the same goes for any canopy that is loaded highly. You can fly a canopy mellow and you can fly one hard core... and to break records and win competitions you generally have to go hardcore but there is a balance between peril and skill to be made to avoid the incident reports! Guns are a funny (peculiar) subject, For instance I hate hand guns, the stupid things were created for one purpose and that is to kill humans (at short distances). Rifles are more of a tool as they can actually shoot something that is more than a few metres away. I will be purchasing a rifle over the next couple of years for hunting, but anything with 4 legs in New Zaland is an exotic pest and quite often good eating as well, here in tanzania many ancient species are on the brink of extinxition so there is a balance to be met. You hear all too often in here that "guns don't kill people, people kill people" which is a true enough comment. So i guess in the end, as far as I am aware, it is the mindset around what a gun is for that creates any problem but with all the shooting and violence in the media, I would think that the Media loves guns very much indeed. The discussion of religion is always intriguing as the many different views/religions are about what it is that we are really doing here and how it/we came to be. This hope that you speak of is the lie that allows this planet to be consantly destroyed. Those that feel comfortable with the fact that some are born into an easy life and others must pay the price by having it very difficult, should reconsider the ethics of such a leader if in fact he did exist. Where I live in tanzania i see many people in discomfort, they are poor and they are hungry yet thier govornment continues to opress them by telling the world they are a poor nation yet they have daimonds, tanzanites, oil, tourism........ where is the comfort in that? The New Zealand standard seems to make sense to me (i am a new zealander so maybe that is why) To jump with a camera helmet you must have at least 100 jumps and for the first couple there must be no camera mounted to the helmet. It is not until 200 jumps that you will be allowed to jump with a tandem and that will be without a camera until you prove you are capable of flying safely with the tandem. (at least that was the case for me) To gain a tandem rating you must have at least 1000 jumps and 2 years in the sport. 500 jumps is NOWHERE NEAR enough IMHO but from what I have been told the USPA now requres 1000 jumps for a tandem rating as well as South Africa? An instructors first 20 tandems must be without camera also. With at least 1020 jumps and a tandem rating one should be capable of determining whether someone is capable of jumping with a camera an a tandem jump. I have seen jumpers with 250 jumps make very good videos and photos with great angles and I have also seen jumpers with 3000+ jumps struggle to keep the same level as the tandem. enthusiasm and determination goes a long way. If someone that has more than 500 camera jumps hasn't worked out that the reason they struggle to keep on a level with the tandem is because they have the wrong suit/equipment(/don't want to afford one) then they should go and do something else. I see guys that think wings are old school and they want to buy a freefly suit but they fly like a starfish abnd the customer is the one that pays buy having a shit video with heads cut off etc.. .. and some guys/girls don't need wing because they are tall/light/good enough to do it without them. A prerequesate or 500 jumpsto jump with a tandem seems far too strict to me. If it hade been the case for me i wouldn't be skydiving today, i wouldn't have been able to afford it! In some countries you can get an AFF rating at 2-300 jumps (which I also thing is farking stupid, even though I did my AFF rating at 280 jumps. So I have a built in turn to the left. about 1500 jumps ago I first discovered it with the heatwave 120 I was jumping. Everyone said it was the canopy and I believed them. Then I got my Crossfire 109, the turn was a little more noticeable. Still they said it was the canopy. Then I got an fx89 the turn was still there and more noticeable and with my JVX84 it is even more so. When the brakes are still set it is not there but as soon as I release the brakes there it goes. Part of my routine is to loosen the left legstrap untill it flys straight and away I go. I do plan on getting a new harness in the short future but I am wondering if it is my body or the harness? Does anyone have some sort of experiment to determine what it is? having 4 canopies with the same built in turn seems to be the least likely scenario and the harness apears to be symmetrical. anyone got any help. What an awesome dropzone. two twin turbine planes(let 410) and a Mi8 helecopter. No ego, no friction between feeflyers and flat flyers and heaps of girls jumping, great food, a huge landing area,plenty of loads and only $18 a jump ticket. I sold my top mount over a year ago and went for a Rawa and a PC 350. I'm still lovin it but what happens when it comes time to purchase a HDV7 or similar and you want to take stills as well? I can see eye to eye with anyone even if we have a difference of opinion on other matters. That is my philosiphy, everyone should stand up for what they beleive in but at the same time everyone should be able to understand that not everyone is the same. as long as nobody is getting hurt then anyone should be able to believe in what they want.
