Don't grip the door on exit if you enjoy using your hand
sducoach replied to bch7773's topic in Safety and Training
Brian, Wow, not to worry, I promise we will not make fun of you at the Coach Course............. much. Having just passed the IE exam a few weeks ago I have to laugh though. One question in the first aid section went like this. "You are exiting last out of the Otter and you look down and see a finger laying on the floor. What do you do? d. Pick the finger up and put it in your pocket. You've always wanted to "flip someone the finger". Blues, J.E. James 4:8 -

Kallend, Solved part of the problem. I'm using TDK. Seems that Sonic has problems with multiple copies and Premier. I have to shut the program down between copies. Sonic knows of the problem, admits it's a problem and suggest using another program to do multiple copies. Go figure. Great public relations! Blues, J.E. James 4:8

You posted indicating this is the "incident" forum. I guess the "safety and training" forum would be a good place for it. Nice picture. I'm stealing it for training. Blues, J.E. James 4:8

Eric, Why don't you explain the difference between the 126 and a 143 with lead? We are talking about wing loading are we not? Blues, J.E. James 4:8

Time, time, time, time, time, time, between groups! 45 degrees does not work as diverdriver stated unless all groups are the same, winds are the same, the distance (read that time) from the a/c is the same REGARDLESS of how far down the 45 degree line they are. With exception of the evaluation jumps and ground preps, your prof. card is required to be completed prior to attending a course. Who is putting on the course and handing out prof. cards at the course. Unless it's updating old cards to the new format? Blues, J.E. James 4:8

It's all about time folks. You can come up with 45 degree rules or 1000 foot rules however, it all comes down to time. Time is the factor of airspeed, wind speed, ground speed, drift, and opening altitudes that vary. Don't make it harder than it is. When in doubt, be it a 182 or a super otter, add a few seconds. Spotting is about "time in the cone" and so is separation. Kallend has the figures calculated into his program, try using it for a graphic display of "time". Blues, J.E. James 4:8

Chris, I've been using a Canopus DVRaptor capture card and Premier for years. What version are you using? Are you using Premier only and capturing through the card? Blues, J.E. James 4:8

You must be working with only 10 minutes of video? What version of Premier? James 4:8

I've been using a home made thumb switch for 10 years. You need the switch made for your camera first. Then, cut it off at the length you need. I took a piece of 1/2" PVC, placed a cap on one end with a hole for the wire to come through. I then hooked up the wires to a momentary switch I purchased from radio shack which just happens to fit into the 1/2" pvc. I simply taped the switch in and started shooting. PM is you need more. Do what your Instructor tells you to do. If you are wanting a controlled exit, always present to the relative wind regardless of how you come out of the door or off the step. Blues, J.E. James 4:8

What Is With the Sue Threads?
sducoach replied to jmpnkramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wake up folks. A waiver does not prevent anyone from suing. It only makes it a little more difficult to collect and provide some protection to persons that comply with "industry standards". Our waivers are not an executed legal document they just a "love letter" telling the survivors that we knew the "normal" risks associated with skydiving. Why argue? Blues, J.E. James 4:8 -
Course cost vary from region to region and wether the CCD is making a living doing courses or if it's a local CCD. The structure of the course is layed out in the IRM. Check it out on the web at USPA and you will know exactly what is expected and required. Blues, J.E. James 4:8

Slut's right on, as usual. Sharing "experiences" is a great thing. Being an "expert and teaching" is something that you should do when you've been trained to do so. All students want to share their new knowledge and it's great to be excited! The problem occurs when the information they have received may not be exactly correct or is skewed by "hanger stories" used to make us feel more "experienced". One of my favorite books, "Quick to Listen - Slow to Speak". As you can guess, I have to read it every couple weeks or so.................. Blues, J.E. James 4:8
