I think this subject got wrapped up on the legality of the drug, and the actions taken. Maybe we should all consider the "Jeff Dow" type of people out there waiting for info like this. The whuffos who want the DZ's shut down is who I am referring to. Rather than publicize our problems by getting law enforcement involved, wouldn't it have been better to have confronted this person and gave them the run down on the situation? And yes, we should be civilized enough not to "shit where we eat". I think the biggest blame lays squarely on the shoulder of the LOUD MOUTH who reports it to the police. Are we not civil enough to settle our disputes by ourselves on the DZ without getting police involved? I know, you'll say....but I didn't want to approach this person, or I didn't want it known that it was me. This anonymous tipping of the police is chicken shit to say the least. Maybe this person would regret their "anonymous tip" if the DZ got shut down. Not the "doper", because as we all learned in school, dopers have no common sense or logic. But the person who wanted police involvement might be real sad if their favorite DZ was shut down because they reported violations to the police, and not the DZO or S&TA. In my distorted "doper" mind, it is the same as falling through some industrial haze, and then calling the FAA to report it. Sure, you get a fine, but the pilot loses also. Maybe the FAA even gives you a break for being the person reporting it? Later, Thomas

ABSOLUTELY! I dispute that with the case about alcohol poisoning. How many "dopers" have OD'ed on marijuana? And compare that with the number of people who get their stomachs pumped, or simply die of alcohol poisoning. Later, Thomas

Skydivers are a very diverse group. Not everyone fits into the "law-abiding" category. Which is it then? Never did drugs, or smoked a joint or two? They are different. I think what poses the biggest threat to American society is the general attitude of "That law doesn't affect me, so why should I worry?" It's the slippery slope we're talking about. What comes first is getting the sheeple to start tolerating control. Once the sheeple have begun to accept control, they feel powerless to go against control. Some sheeple even feel safer because of control. Want to talk about the future of model rocketry, because a few politicians thought it would be a good idea and appeal to "public safety interests" to put forth the regulation on model rockets? or should we phrase it "Taking an opportunity away" from many children that we as children had? Or should we talk about the right to travel freely, regardless of your credit history? And what relevance credit history has in the world of terrorism? They all seem little petty arguments to some (unaffected people), but for others it may be more personal. Just bow down and let Uncle Sam have his way. yeah...I'm reaching far for valid argument, and have probably mentioned nothing valid. Later, Thomas

Sorry. I wasn't very specific. I did not mean the TOP floor fell, and every subsequent floor fell. What I meant was there was a major failure around the heat source of burning jet fuel, and that is what caused the top section to come falling down. Not one floor at a time, but many floors all came crashing into the bottom section. Not the bottom floor, but the bottom section (below the burning part). Your engineer most likely will say that heat caused failure, eh? The building did not fall when the plane crashed into it. It fell after jet fuel burned and weakend (sp?) the structure. And the part about the towers and structural integrity is correct.....I still believe. Like, even 10-12 people could climb a 450 foot freestander without problems. Unless they all started rocking back and forth in "resonant frequency", which is a whole different topic. Towers are strong and safe for the most part. I will say that some may be old and rusty, and thus unreliable for the safety aspect. The point is BASE jumping is not safe for the most part. We all take our risks......you decide your own involvement. Later, Thomas

This is typical police behavior. Rather than go after murderer and robbers, it is much easier to bust and convict us "pot-smokers". Which bring the next question. Why do we allow POLICE OFFICERS to become skydivers? Sure, they are people too......but ingrained in their training, if they see a law broken, most will enforce. Police typically do not have an understanding of how to behave off the job. Police have this "holier-than-thou" attitude, of if a law is broken, I should enforce. Seriously, I ran into this problem. A cop at my training DZ ran a check on me, and asked me about a certain incident..."check person" at a certain object.....hence referred to as Elisabeth. See, Police do not know how to interact in normal society. Police can not tolerate any laws broken, even if it is their friends and/or jumping buddies. Personal attack on police? Well, they HAVE come after me, and checked up on me, and I do have some things to hide. So yes, it is a personal attack on me. "The War on Drugs" was declared during the Reagan administration. So, if all you sheeple think the war on terrorism is scary, think about how long the war on drugs has been going on. And the problem is that Uncle Sam can't figure out how to tax reefer. Else it would be legal, like tobacco. oh....and be more careful when skydiving around police. They might get you for cloud busting also. Thomas p.s. I cheerfully await the people carrying handcuffs to respond. "You have the right to remain silent."

A big factor in the demise of towers is compression. See, a tower (guyed or freestanding) faces major compressional forces. The bottom needs to support all the weight on top. Most towers are deisgned to withstand 100 mph winds. So, essentially 3 people on top of a 450 foot freestanding tower adds little to the compressional bearings of the tower. Think of it this way---What percentage of weight are 3 people adding to a 450 foot steel structure? Not much. Maybe one hundredth of the weight of all the other metal used in construction. This 1750 foot tower that fell because of an ice storm most likely failed because of the weight of the ice. A compression failure at the bottom. The metal buckles, and the top comes down. Like the world trade center incident. The bottom could not support the top once the weight overcame the load bearing capability. In the WTC, the heat weakend the metal, causing the top to start downward. The bottom could support a STATIC top, but not the force of the top falling down on the bottom. Most towers are built very strong, and a human being or 3 climbing on them causes them little extra stress. Think about the winds these towers face. And the guy wires are set to put compressional forces on the tower's base in high winds. There is very little worry of winds. If winds were a problem, more towers would fall. Engineers do know what they are doing, and the numbers they are crunching when designing these towers. But, doulbe or triple the weight of the tower with say....ice, and it will come down. As witnessed. I have talked with engineers about this. People on towers is a very little problem, and adds very little stress to the tower. Later, Thomas

You miss out on the "good" threads because your post-whoring abilities are falling behind. Less sleep, more PW'ing. Then, you may be able to get in under the locks again. Thomas

[attempt at humor] Now that I can post again, let me address the implications one at a time. For some reason, I stupidly feel I should: [/attempt at humor] Absolutely right. I have nothing on video, therefore I have done nothing. Nor have I asked anyone with ANY experience on the subject. Therefore, I am completely clueless. #1 repeated. If A=B, and B=C, then A=C. However, if A is false, then C can take on any value. Maybe this is good humor. I am too stupid to understand. Therefore, I will retreat to my own little distorted world. Now where is my bong? snorgle snorgle snorgle... Thomas

Did you hear about this guy killing himself in a chatroom?

Not suicide. This was just an overdose. See, drug users tend to build up a tolerance, and after the tolerance is built up, more drugs are taken. Yes, this was an obscene amount of drugs. But does anyone know the amount of drugs done before this by this person? 360mg of methadone is lethal? That's like saying everyone is the same, and drugs affect everyone the same, regardless of history. Also like saying that nobody can do 21 shots of liquor on their 21st birthday. This is just a case of someone pushing the limits. It is a BASE jumper pulling lower than ever before. It is a 400-way attempt, because the 300-way succeeded without fatality. It is a race car driver trying to squeeze an extra inch of performance out of his car. It is the NASA trying to push Columbia a little farther than before. It is simply pushing the limits. Why must we push the limits? Everyone has their own answer. This person failed in their pursuit. That is all. Suicide is intentional, and usually a note is left. A mistake happens, and the end result is not predictable. Just my drug thoughts......... Thomas -
Someone once said, you can laugh about something, or you can cry about something. So....with that in mind, let me be the first to laugh. Something to NEVER say flying: Consider yourself HIJACKED! I heard the weather forecast for saturday. Scattered showers. I've heard of raining cats and dogs, but this is a new one: It's going to rain bits and pieces. Best way to light a grill? Re-entry. What do you get if you put 7 people into space? 7 people in space. And when you try to bring them back? Reports will be issued when the debris is gathered. Laugh or cry.....it's your choice. Just goes to remind us what happens in ÏINHERENTLY DANGEROUS"activities. offensively gone, Thomas

not really. I had enough practice at blinc with my "nest crapping antics" that I was pretty sure locks would come about. I just wonder if this thread will get locked because I posted to this also. That would be interesting. Personal attacks? I asked a greenie about them once. This helped me phrase them properly. It may sound crazy, but consider the source..(dribbled basketball of a kid), I did not start flame wars. They are not my invention, nor my brilliant new idea. They have been around long before I was posting. I just thought it would be fun to join in. And it has been. I haven't laughed like this since I was a little girl. Swearing? I'm surprised HH allows it, but then again, maybe he isn't so confined by "business". That's the best part. Someone that allows swearing and booby pics. I'm surprised HH let me stay as long as he did. When all this began, I actually did ask him to ban me from here. but, I may have had a valid reason, and he may have considered it, and decided he could tolerate me awhile. Thanks HH. You run a great site. And the rest of the greenies.....sorry for the headaches. Peace, Thomas

***Yeah, I'm laughing about that. I wonder if that frustrates our poor misguided netizen, that we didn't go nutz? *shrug**** Why would you bother wasting your time trying to teach me anything? Thomas

Fuck you all. I just wanted to say that. now that I have said it, let me rant a little. Some things piss people off. Some don't. I can't tell. So what is the point of trying? Fuck you all. Here's a joke..... What I think............ And piss off. That...and pull low. Got any cute responses? cause I just love to hear opinions. Opinions are like assholes....everyone''s got them, and I think most of them stink.... Wait....that may be offensive... Suck it...... Thomas

and then there is always.... "Does this outfit make me look fat?" No, the fat makes you look fat. Thomas

well the first step is admitting you have a problem. It sounds like you are taking a step in the right direction. Thomas

both positions? you mean like black and white? or gay and straight? or mean and nice? you are responding too fast. It takes my small brain damn near a month and a half to think about things. I know you were responding to my post. I just found it humorous that in december, people could laugh about someone falling off a building, but all of a sudden the holocaust and the Aggie bonfire can no longer be joked about. I thought it was a good idea to have double standards. you mean I might be wrong again? shit, I guess it's too many drugs. Thomas

What good is a line? After all, some things are funny to some people, and other things get locked or removed. Fuck everybody that doesn't find it funny, right? Majority thinks it is funny. as long as HH leaves it up, it must be OK. booo...hoooo Oh, I crossed the line. fuck you and the horse you rode in on! Want to hear some sexist jokes? how about any other offensive joke? as long as it isn't about a jew, or a failed bonfire, it might be OK. signed, Anonymous Coward

sorry, I got my politics wrong. I guess I would say you can do whatever you want when it comes to packing your rig or having someone else pack it. If you are doing something not up to DZ standards, make sure to be quiet about it. That's all. See no evil, hear no evil. Thomas

If you could choose, how would you leave this world?
CrazyThomas replied to suz's topic in The Bonfire
I thought this type of question wasn't allowed here? After all, you might offend someone who has VERY personal reasons. Me? Suicide, plain and simple. Not just screw up on a skydive, but very intentionally do a no pull. I bet some of you are thinking "well why not do it already and do us a favor" Not lose my life to something like skydiving or sex or someone who shoots me over a traffic dispute (road rage---has happened before), but to simply make the choice to leave this world. but then again, I am sure anything I say will piss someone off. Thomas -
It's OK Suz. I can handle it. I'm just "sanitizing" my posts so the greenies don't have so much of a headache from all the complaints. much like at blinc, my posts often need sanitation. Thomas
