  1. Jonestown...that's the one where that atheist/communist convinced a bunch of people to commit suicide, right? A lot more to the story than that. Indeed... Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour
  2. Ya, he said a lot... "You're gonna help yourself, or you'll get no help! There's only one hope of glory; that's within you! Nobody's gonna come out of the sky! There's no heaven up there! We'll have to make heaven down here!" "those who remained drugged with the opiate of religion had to be brought to enlightenment — socialism." "Son of a bitchin’ no good lousy ass anarchistic capitalist bitch. That’s what I say about my relatives, but you won’t say it." "If my wife said, I’m not going to be a communist, I’d say, well, forget it, by God, I’ll forget you too." "I'd like to choose my own kind of death, for a change. I'm tired of being tormented to hell. Tired of it." "If we can't live in peace, then let's die in peace." "Take our life from us. We laid it down. We got tired. We didn't commit suicide. We committed an act of revolutionary suicide protesting the conditions of an inhumane world." Just your run of the mill Billy Graham type, eh? 4. Correct. They aren't. Which should lead to the question, "then why are the non solutions being so forcefully advocated?" We see it more and more frequently stated that it is the right thing to do. That there must be something to destroy an evil and immoral petrochemical industry. Oh, it'll be for something. That is, we can all feel better that at least we don't have Shell to worry about anymore. Gas is $10 per Gallon and the electrical grid is unreliable, inflation is through the roof but we are making the world a better place for all to suffer through. Shell seems to be confident in their future. I know in the last several months they've been building a viral campaign targeted at informing millennials about the benefits/future of natural gas and how they intend to be global leaders of LNG production and carbon capture/storage technology...and the recently proposed acquisition of the BG group shows that they're serious about it. 5. I'm reminded of the northeast blackout in 2003 where 55 million people lost power because of a little software bug in Akron, Ohio. I was in downtown Detroit at the time. Everything just stopped as if time stood still and nobody seemed to have a clue what was happening or what to do about it...cars were just jammed packed everywhere - it was a mess...kinda surreal. The outage only lasted a few days, but it gave us plenty of time to reflect on our dependency on the system. One could only imagine what it would've looked like if the outage lasted for an extended period. I now live in northern Michigan, and I have to say that there is quite a peace of mind having 1 million acres of national forest in my back yard to depend on rather than being trapped in the vulnerability of a failed system. 6. Just curious, was that the April 17th daily devotional you read immediately after your climate alarmist posting about extincting ourselves? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4722229;search_string=extinction%20geological%20record%20;#4722229 Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour

  8. Her behavior consists of rubbing her status in the clerks face in a very d-baggy way. Well, your comment about how everybody gets pissed off at towing companies made it seem like you were mitigating the level of d-bag bitchiness seen in the video. 10. She's overpriveleged because, well....do you know what that word means? If so, you should have no problem connecting that to the part about being a douchebag. It's about how you control that anger and the form you allow it to take. I know bitchiness is sexually arousing, but there is no need to defend it... 11. So then she's not overprivileged. In fact, if she's being held to a higher standard of behaviour in her private life than a normal person she's kinda underprivileged, isn't she? I don't necessarily think she's being held to a higher standard. If another hot blonde was caught throwing her social status and good looks in the face of lower class fat women with shitty jobs, she'd probably receive the same treatment - and it would probably go viral as well. This story is just getting more media attention because she's a part of that media. Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour
  12. Please provide a source for I have never seen hoping and praying for death and destruction of the world by Ron. Thanks ahead of time for finding that for me. Ron has repeatedly claimed that the return of Christ is eminent. eminent or imminent? When your daughter was about to be born into this world, did you hope and pray that her mother suffered labor pains? I think you're just hoping that we're hoping and praying for suffering, death and destruction...it just gives you another thing to bitch about. Amos 5:18 Woe to you who desire the day of the Lord! For what good is the day of the Lord to you? It will be darkness, and not light. Proverbs 17:5 Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished. 13. She was disciplined because, by her own choice, she was hired to be part of the public face of ESPN (for which she's presumably very well-compensated), which means that she must comport herself properly, especially when out in public, and not do anything that would damage the public image of her employer, whose stock in trade is its public image. By invoking "who she was", she was impliedly invoking ESPN, and thus her conduct of (arguably) moral turpitude reflects poorly on ESPN. Yes, it's a code of (especially public) conduct more burdensome than the average schmoe must adhere to, but it was part of the deal in exchange for her compensation. I can almost guarantee you that her (presumed) employment contract's language supports this; although even if she has no contract and is an employee-at-will (which I doubt) the implied terms of her employment would still support this. ...and this is why we love lawyers and put up with all their bullshit. 14. There is too much agreement in this thread - Allow me to stir it up a bit: Liberal approach: Idly standby with your thumb up your ass telling other cops to stand down. Conservative approach: To hell with this guy, I'm fucking gunning it... Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour

  17. FL has the Marchman Act for substance abuse and the Baker Act for mental illness. Family and friends may utilize the courts for the issuance of an ex parte order for treatment. It is rarely used. Ya, I'm probably being a bit naive, but that's to be expected when talking about things like legalizing heroin... 19. My simple answer is yes; I think all of the currently "scheduled" drugs should be legal (not a crime for most adults to possess any of them, even without a prescription). But my realistic answer? I have no f'n clue how that would actually work. The war on drugs has gone on for so long and gotten so complicated that I don't how we could get ourselves out of such a mess. Though I think we're generally headed in a better direction with marijuana slowly becoming legal. As for who benefits from the "war," no doubt Big Pharm and Big Alcohol are somewhere on the long list. Organized crime is probably at the top of the list. Edit to add: As much as I am against the "War on Drugs," because I believe it does more harm than good, I'm sure there are some real people out there who are benefiting from it. Potential addicts who don't have an affinity for the current legal drugs and who are deterred enough by the illegality of the illegal drugs. I'm sure it is protecting some people, as it advertises, but ultimately I do believe it's at an unacceptable price (the old freedom vs. safety issue). I'm glad you've added that edit. Your thoughtfulness and ability to see all the angles is always appreciated. While I certainly see the negatives of prohibition, what stands out to me the most are the lives that have been changed for the better because of the system. Perhaps the best solution would be to have a drug reform bill where we lax many of the drug laws but take responsibility for those that may not have the ability to handle that level of freedom. For example, if you end up in the hospital of an overdose, you'll be subjected to treatment or a detox facility. Perhaps we could have a system where family and friends of loved ones could come to the court and say hey, our brother is abusing drugs to the point that it may kill him. He's out of control and we'd like you to review his case to determine if the state feels treatment is necessary. Perhaps severe drug addicts that display detrimental changes in behavior over time could be treated as the mentally ill and committed? Who knows, eh? 20. Nobody cares to talk about cops stealing money from a bunch of drug dealing thugs when we already have plenty of threads about cops murdering and beating the shit out of people... Take a hint...this is a thread about the war on drugs just as the title suggests. Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour
  21. I don't think so. But most court-ordered treatment is probably due to drunk driving. Edit to add: Which is in line with what he was saying - court-ordered because of a behavior while using the drug but not because of the drug use itself. I think it's also worth noting that many people are ordered to rehab for the abuse/possession of prescription drugs without a doctors note. So now, if Schedule I drugs are legalized, would those against the war on drugs also seek to legalize schedule 2,3,4 and 5 prescription drugs without a doctor's approval? If so, I wonder how that would affect insurance rates and those seeking doctor approved medicinal use. Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour

  23. There are a variety of ways. HERE is one good one. While those types of studies are certainly interesting, they could hardly be used to indicate an accurate level of racism or outright hatred that may predispose an individual to commit murder. Here's a quote from one of the reseachers of the study: "We’re not claiming that employers engage in discriminatory behavior consciously, or that this is necessarily an issue of racism....It is important to teach people in charge of hiring about the subconscious biases they may have, and figure out a way to change these patterns.” There have been studies performed all over the world that show how homophily has always seemed to play a major role in the hiring process. People tend to favor their ethnicity and even their gender. Some studies show that even female recruiters have a propensity to callback more female applicants. I can go down to the three main business in town that are run by females and see that all the employes are women, except the two tall fat alpha males and the butcher. It would be interesting though to see an updated version of this study and compare the numbers. I would hope to see that employers have addressed this issue and have come to recognize the fact that companies with a more ethnically diverse work force tend to be more successful. Now, back to police brutality... When I see police use excessive force on a white man, I see frustration, fear and hate of criminals. When it's a black man, it seems like that same frustration, fear and hate gets confused with racism. Never was there an answer....not without listening, without seeing - Gilmour
  24. Well, the flip side to that is deluding yourself into thinking that this country hasn't made great strides with regard to eliminating racism, and that cops simply inhabit an institutionalized form of modern-day lynching. Getting from the 1 yard line to the 20 yard line is "making great strides". It's still a long way to the 50 yard line. It all seems rather subjective. How do we gauge the level of racism in this country? Is there a chain gang with field markers of racism that could determine a first down, or will we always be subject to crooked referees calling bogus penalties...
