I imagine that was the factory set of lines? Are you sure about the number of jumps? Hard openings can break lines, sometimes those hard openings are packing errors, sometimes its fall rate. If your jump numbers are correct and you packed it, theres a good chance its a packing error: loose tail, semi-collapsed slider, or others I dont know. Glad to hear you're ok and landed safely. Ive had a nasty twister under a Velo 103 loaded at 2.15. At first I thougt it was line twists, instead, it was some kind of crazy step through. It was spinning so hard it took both hands, and 12 seconds to chop it, and that was tough. I was on my back spinning like mad when I chopped, I rolled to my belly just long enough to see the ground before I pulled my reserve. My saving grace here? I typically wave and pull at 3500', and in the saddle firmly by 27-2800'. My other three rides are crap compared to this one. I'll elaborate a bit on Marks reply, and truthfully, I dont know that I fully understood this until recently. If you have a given landing point your shooting for, and your goal is repitition. then you say your long on final. What would be the ways to land in your "spot" under your new wing? By adjusting your pattern. Here are some ways you can adjust. 1) create a longer final This could work on small dropzones, but in others you could run into confilicts with a stricter pattern. Such as flying a final through the base leg of other canopies. 2) adjust the altitude at which you turn to final. In your case, just a few feet. Then if you are flying a conventional (right or left) pattern then you adjust down your altitude to turn on your base leg, and your entry to your downwind leg altitude. Do this in small increments, and you'll be right on your spot in no time. 3) S-turns and holding in brakes on final. While these skills are basic and should be in everyone's skill sets, they are often times frowned upon at larger DZs if you have traffic behind you. Because they are not consistant with a pattern it makes you and obstical to others in the sky. Please use caution when performing these maneuvers in traffic. Most of all, consult the locals who are watching you land. Visual inspection of one's technique and set up is a much better evaluator than a few sentences over the internet. I think you'll find the freefly scene in Arkansas quite slim. In fact the Central Arkansas area has only a couple of planes operating last I heard, and those are cessnas. Up in NW Arkasas (siloam Springs) they used to have a larger plane, but I have no idea know. When I was in Conway (30mi west of LR), I jumped at West Tennessee Skydiving just outside Memphis. Great facility, nice folks, and Home to Mike Mullins King Air. I eventually stopped jumping there and started making the drive to Skydive Dallas in Whitewright, TX. Where I picked up a LOT of help from the Team VIBE guys, and many of the other locals. I called it home for about 2 years until I moved to Atlanta. There are plenty of good people around your area, tell em I said hello. Trouble will be finding a fast paced DZ without driving many hours. I suppose you could call me that. In fact its gotton to a point when Im watchin landing with a group and someone messes up, everyone looks at me. Wierd. What to I get? Comments behind my back, attitude, and a safer DZ. Yup. Even the S&TA is backing me, well, at least until I screw up. (Which I've been known to do) Im seeing lower number jumpers talking to each other after minor incidents (landing too close to each other, cutting off, etc) They're not waiting on anyone now. On the ride to altitude we sound off those that will be swooping. We repeat the pattern and landing direction for the main landing area. In the long run, Im getting a safer DZ with aware pilots. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Age aint got nothing to do with it, its all about maturity. Odds are that over time the "kittens", as you call them, will have a greater percentage of attractive persons than the "cougar" segment. Personally, I've always hunted the older game! I learned much in my formative years from a couple older (than me) ladies. Hell, my wife is even a touch older than me. Age is irrelevant, its how you work together that makes it special.
