You were spinning b/c you had something on your body not symmetrical. Work with someone who has accomplished this on the ground to help you with your body position. Do some jumps with someone who can get video and help you with more of your body position. When you go to the tunnel you have to learn backflying before you can sit b/c its your "neutral" position. IMHO, you can fall much faster on your back than on your belly b/c you can tuck much of your arms/legs into your torso's burble. This faster fall rate is desired over a belly to earth position in case you become unstable in a sit, you can return to the backflying position and maintain much of your freeflying fall rate. Corking is bad and has been known to hurt and even kill. I agree with beowuf here in the learning backflying first, or at least learn to be stable on your back and maintain a fall rate. Have a stable fall rate if you have someone with you will help you both be safe. As you learn both sitting and back flying your can trasition easily between the two. I liked that exercise a lot in the tunnel.

When I first got into racing round 92 or so, it was Quaker State and Pennzoil. AKA the Pennsylvania grade oils. I too had many sludgy engines from them. I was a Castrol fanatic for a while, but now Im not as picky. I had a buddy run Rotella 15W-40 in his 76 trans am through college (3 years) and he delivered pizza for $$ during that time. When we yanked the heads to put some ported ones on you could have eaten out of the lifter valley it was so clean. You have two choices. 1) Stand up and do something about it. 2) Take your business elsewhere. If its as bad as you say, you're not alone. Find those who are likeminded and approach the DZO/S&TAs "in force". If its still no help, pack your bags. You dont have to jump there. I opted for #1 at our DZ. Im in contact weekly with the DZO and S&TA now about piloting how to make our DZ safer for ALL pilots, and I dont have any ratings. The reason its come to this, is too many have just sat by and let these attitudes happen. You can make a difference!

Hottie has changed the oil in her 94 del Sol religiously every 3000 miles. Rarely at the same place, so she got a variety of oils depending on where she went. Sh bought the car in 98 with approx 50k miles on it. It now has round 228k on it. We just had the head reworked (she didnt change the timing belt like she should have) there was vertually NO wear in the cylinders. Its not using oil now (not uncommon when putting a reworked head on a high milage car), and 500 miles after the last oil change it still looks semi-clean on a white rag. Changing it regularly is more important than brand. At least is has for my past cars, this includes the race engines I used to build. Wow. Just fucking Wow. I saw somthing like that on an edited video a while back. It was a guy spinning violently, and fighting his cutaway cable (you can see it in the video). Bout the time he gets it cut away, and reserve deployed he impacts in a field and lives. It was all cut into the scene from Fandango. Scary shit. Over time the catalyst (it looks like a mesh screen) get residue build up. This blocks the flow of exhaust, causing the engine to work harder to push it out, robbing your valuble HP. why you noticed it all of a sudden is still a mystery. Good call on the aftermarket, its not like Honda makes those cats. Why pay the mark-up? I bought a custom fit unit from autozone for the wife's car for $187 a few weeks ago.
