    forgive me but im quite lacking on my fluid dynamics. My understanding of the dimples on a golf ball are for stability, not neccesarily for reduced friction. also as the surface area of the falling object gets smaller so does the pressure associated with said object upon impact with a stationary object. So am I right in saying that the more "aerodynamic", the more likely for injury or damage should the object make it to the ground and impact anything. Unless we can significantly reduce the mass associated with the object. I am NOT a physics professor, but I did stay at a holiday inn Express last night!     I was going to do something very similar, but replace all green with red and mirror the black cell and color the cross braces in that cell red (a mirror of the neighboring cells) but then I decided I didnt want to wait the time frame involved, so Im taking a stock one.     Yeah, that's what I'm working on right now. Unfortunately, as we increase fluid density, we increase 'hardness'. Hmmm. How can we decrease air resistance.... shape, surface cohesiveness (including surface texture), and rigidity of surface structure. Back to square one.     yea the conversation has wandered a bit. IMHO, awareness (of your gear and surroundings), avoidance (of things flying and stationary), abiding by traffic patterns/rules, and judging what is/is not safe for the conditions is key to learning to swoop.

    I used to drive 5 hours one way to skydive, with a good number of DZ's closer. but for me it was all about the people and what I was looking for in a DZ. Not its only about 1.5 hours.

    I would have thought that any canopy that is given enough time and height would be able to level out without any input??? Is this no true? certainly not a katana 120 loaded at 1.8 will not it comes out of the turn and continues at the ground in a really extreme way UNTIL you correct that by pitchign it up... I am sure there are other canopies that do it, but this is the only one I have flown.... Dave Both the Katana 107 (loaded at 2.0) Velo 111 (1.9) and the Velo 103 (2.1) ive jumped will return to level flight EVENTUALLY. Keep in mind eventually is a VERY long time.     as I mean to use it - someone decides the sunset load (or perhaps 1before) will be a tracking or XC or speedstar or whatever and makes an announcement. Anyone interested joins the fun. Nice on the social aspects, but not so sure on the safety side. So some I'll do, others I'll watch and wait till I'm better. If Im leading the track dive its usually being planned by 2 in the afternoon or so. I get the same folks a lot. typically, I can count on a core of 6-8 people that have been on dives with me before. I will take on a few more that are unexperienced and brief them accordingly. if you're not in the dive by XXXX, then stop, and track in Y direction (x, and y dependent on any other groups on the load, load size, and group size.)     so rephrased, what should one have to do a zoo load at the end of the day - say 12 people. a really REALLY good track. FWIW, i like to keep my tracking dives to 6-9 people if i know I will loose a couple of them, larger is ok if I know they will be able to get really flat.     I used to know an Aussie that said he'd been in packing contests af few times. One of which was in a phone booth! AND the packer had to jump it to claim his time. on a good day I can pack to make a 15 min call and have time to take a leak, get some water and be geared up andwaiting at the ropes when the plane pulls up, and have no spinners, slammers or mals.
