  1. Yeah, that's pretty cool, Julia too. Anyway, I remember the old Viking missions to Mars from back when I was a kid. I recently ran across an article about how they continued to send back data for much longer then planned and that there were plans for another Viking-like mission to Mars that would have taken what was basically a Viking lander mounted on something like the moon rovers some of the Apollo astronauts 4-wheeled around the moon on. So, there could have been a rover on Mars back in the 70s, but it wasn't meant to be and had to wait awhile. I'd send my resume to NASA if the current administration hadn't recently shit on NASA. Anyway... back on topic... I dig the cans of MGD conspicuously posed in several of your recent Nina photos.
  2. I was going to guess it was Hank too. Testing one of his pilot chute designs. Highly likely it was at Elsinore. Why... it was Hank...
  3. A couple of more mama's and y'all could have your own 4-way team!!??
  4. I wonder if she talks that much?
  5. ... and doesn't type nearly as much as skymama1 does...
  6. Is anyone else confused by having skymama and skymama1 around here? JOKING!
  7. Well... I managed to get a bobbin case, presser foot and presser foot set-screw via eBay for the Singer 95-12 I've been tinkering with and talking about here. The presser foot and set-screw showed up in the mail yesterday and today, I couldn't resist swapping the 95-10 out on its table for the 95-12, putting a few drops of oil at the appropriate places and give her a try. Seems like there still may be some life left in the old girl... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPiCMvmitPY ... I think a cleaning is still probably called for, but at least its good to know it looks to be worth the while.
  8. Oh yeah... I'm sure they'll be all over mailing me $5 for finding an old student rip-cord handle lost 3+ years ago!
  9. Yeah! Couldn't the presser drop with the increas in altitude cause it to burst like breast implants... err... wait... never mind....
  10. See the enclosed picture... I found it while walking the desert around the "near point" (in the vicinity of the ol' Cal City Drop Zone) yesterday while waiting for some buds to show up to go shooting. How about an "archaeology" section to the Lost Drop Zone Project?
  11. Ummm... "pig horn"?????? Technical Challenge #3: Have "grippers" sewn onto your riding leathers, Nick.
  12. Wow Howard, you're correct! That is one ugly... and really big... Pilot Chute...
  13. I spoke with Alberoni and after describing the condition of the machine, (in short) pretty much got the boat anchor suggestion. I spoke with Atlas Levy and they were a bit more up-beat, but still sounded like I'm looking at 500+ to get her going and I'd venture to guess, if I actually took the machine to them, it would be closer to what Mel wag'ed. They also spoke well of the "newer" used Juki bar tackers. I may run it down to Atlas sometime just for something to do and to see what else he has in his shop, but I'm thinking the saga of this particular Singer 269W26 given to me may be about played out.
  14. Seems the Republicans have something else to be pissed off at Obama about.
  15. Hank... Asciutto!!!??? Now THERE's a Blast-from-the-Past!
  16. Take a tip from the aviation industry. On the maiden flight of a new aircraft, they usually send a "safety chase" along on the first flight test bird.
  17. *bump* Shameless, I know, but someone on YouTube asked if this was on dropzone.com... Quotehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1RzwV2WgIU
  18. Well, you could just disable the mic! You didn't find any Easter eggs during yesterday's build session, did you? But seriously, looks like she's coming together quick.
  19. $500 per sex partner or $500 per sex act? Dude! That one was just too good to pass up... Anyway... re "$500 per sex partner or $500 per sex act?"... ya know what they call women who do that... and many get really pissed off if you call them that... but it doesn't necessarily mean they won't take your money for it.
  20. Jerry, Ain't that the truth. Its kind-of like asking 2 pilots thier thought on a aviation topic... you usually walk away from the conversation with about 5 opinions from the 2 of them. Anyway, I'm thinking I may go more for a "surface" type cleaning on the 95-12 I have rather than a "deep cleaning" as it seems to be no worse off than the 95-10 I have that sews just fine; ya know, that old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" thing. I have been pondering picking up another Singer 95-10 or 96 that I've seen up for auction so I have something to do more of the "deep cleaning" experiment on... and an excuse to buy an air compresser too... We'll see. In a little over 2 years, I've gone from owning zero sewing machines to 5... 2 and 1/2 of them actually work...
  21. Mel, I'm looking for a presser foot lifting arm (p/n 52016) for an old Singer 95 series machine. I'll PM you too and can point you towards the parts list that has a 1 for 1 picture of the part I need if need be. Thanks.
