No, I think its more like most folks don't prepare for this kind of sh*t until the last minute. When I was a kid growing up in PA, I remember when hurricane Agnes tore up the east coast. We were prepared with plenty of canned goods, water (including I remember mom cleaning one of the bath tubs really well so we cold fill it up with extra water), dad readying the camp stove with extra fuel (white gas) in case power went out for awhile, not to mention lots of candles and flashlights and preparing to sleep in the living room instead of the upstairs bed rooms. I remember it raining so hard, it looked like water falls coming off of everything and the street was a river. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Agnes

No more farting, maggots! And that's an order!
ZigZagMarquis replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
From the title of the tread, I thought JR had finally gotten a custom built rig complete with holster for his 9 and was planning on shooting the next person who farted... -
They might not have power, or might have better things to do. I'm wondering how east coast DZs in Irene's path have fared / will fair? I hope well with little or no damage. I heard that Ellington (Skydive Connecticut) flew their Otter off to safer ground.

shah, When you have enough jumps, get an instructor rate of some flavor. You'll get laid constantly! -
How come everyone keeps asking me to buy beer?
ZigZagMarquis replied to Mothra's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not acceptable to Mothra! Has anyone explained "extra altitude" to you yet? -
Boy that is an understatement. No one even got an Article 15 out of the deal. Sparky Yeah, well, that's a conversation for a different time and place, but its one of the reasons I got my rigger's ticket. I figured if it was going to go to shit, I might as well do it to myself, or not.... so far... so good... 3 saves, and 2 of them are the most important person in the world... ME!
-
Yeah, well, I chose my "stupid" moments differently. /JOKING! Anyway, I don't think that was Misty. Could have been, but I think that was a different gal. Anyway... Misty... BSBD RIP, you did everything right, sorry you got screwed. I tiped a glass for you the day you left us and I hope to do so again with you some day, but not for some time, hold a slot for me though. Skies.

Yeah, that's why they got young guys... and towards the end, young girls... to jump that stuff. I always smiled and shook my head "no" when they asked me if I wanted to jump one of those rigs!

I've found that turning and tracking at the prebriefed break-off altitude like one's life depends on it... because it does... is a good signal.
-
And so it begins. JerryBaumchen PS) Normiss, do you own any running shoes? ... beat me to it! norm... you only need a truck good enough to get the RV from the dealer to the DZ... its not like its going anywhere, but there... right!!?

Jumping after a tooth out
ZigZagMarquis replied to imfromwales's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He wants to give her a "Red Neck" or "Toothless" Kiss Pass... Anyway... Over to the OP.... I had a tooth knocked out in freefall once upon a time as a result of a freefall collision... combat RW... and I didn't bleed out before reaching the ground. Your experience may differ. -
Congrats, I guess... never sure what to say when a person gets divorced... Anyway, when are you and normiss gettin' hitched?

If you could buy a plane for your DZ......
ZigZagMarquis replied to weaverd's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If one only bought a division of Tiger 206s (24 way formation loads OR farm the spares out for hire), do you think there would be enough cash left over to build a cool hangar including bathrooms with showers and a small bar area? -
Yes... what are these "vacations" you speak of? OBTW... if one doesn't work for a living, then going someplace else to loaf around and/or do fun things while on the dole is NOT a vacation!
-
Bored... obsessed... well, yeah... what ever... Anyway, was having some fun with Google Earth and going through what historical imagery I could find there. Attached are some aerial photos of Cal City courtesy of Google Earth circa 1994, a couple from 2004, 2006 and 2008. I'm not 100% sure if I buy the "imagery date" associated with each. 27 May 1994 was a Friday, it was the Friday before Memorial Day Weekend that year, but still seems a lot of cars in the parking lot. No jumps in my log book as this was during a brief hiatus for me between starting and finishing student status. Maybe someone else will happen by and check this date in their log book. 16 February 2004 was a Monday, President's Day. I would have been off of work that day, but couldn't find a jump in my log book for that day. 31 December 2004 was a Friday, New Year's Eve, but I couldn't find any jumps logged that day either. 29 April 2006 was a Saturday and I do have 6 jumps logged that day at Cal City.

I thought I saw a movie once where Chuck Noris jumped from a DC3 with both cargo doors off after first having dispatched a cargo drop full of supplies for some para-military / secret mission behind enemy lines in Vietnam... of course, he probably karate kicked the doors off of the 3 in-flight first...
