ZigZagMarquis replied to normiss's topic in The Bonfire
Well, when you're sitting there In your silk upholstered chair Talking to some rich folks that you know Well I hope you won't see me In my ragged company You know I could never be alone Take me down little Susie, take me down I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground And you can send me dead flowers every morning Send me dead flower by the mail Send me dead flowers to my wedding And I won't forget to put roses on your grave Well, you're sitting back In your rose pink Cadillac Making bets on Kentucky Derby Day I'll be in my basement room With a needle and a spoon And another girl can take my pain away Take me down little Susie, take me down I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground And you can send me dead flowers every morning Send me dead flower by the mail Send me dead flowers to my wedding And I won't forget to put roses on your grave Take me down little Susie, take me down I know you think you're the Queen of the Underground And you can send me dead flowers every morning Send me dead flower by the US mail Say it with dead flowers at my wedding And I won't forget to put roses on your grave No I won't forget to put roses on your grave -
So how did YOU screw up your Valentine's Day?

Dude... just suck it up, get mama a box of chocolates and see about giving her a "heart-on"! -
Valentine's Day isn't a holiday. It's made up.

All and all, I thought it was just "okay". I had hopes that it would answer more questions in between where Caprica left off and BSG started off, but it didn't, IMO. Maybe there's more to come?

This incident was before my time, but I certainly heard the story over and over and over... and over, again, from y'all while drinking beers. Anyway, interesing photo. I hadn't known that 1PM was damaged that badly in this particular mishap of her's (there's been like 3 or 4). The lore I always heard attached to this mishap was that she was flwon back to Cal City single engine to be repaired rather than being repaired out in the open at Perris (I don't think Perris had a hangar back then?), but looking at this photo, I doubt it. Must be more to the story? If you can remember, Cary, after all the years & beers!

Simon, The "we need folks to come out so we can get a (big) plane and we need a (big) plane so we can get folks to come out" certainly isn't a new quandry for a prospective DZ. I hope that y'all see a way to do a few days here a few days there for fun-jumpers at Cal City; weekends prefered. If and when, please get the word out as soon as possible, a few weeks ahead of time mininimum I'd suggues so folks can get it on their calendars and spread the word. Hope it works out.

Which is more important -- my rights, or your safety?

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2013/01/22/do_gun_control_laws_control_guns_116757.html Do Gun Control Laws Control Guns? By Thomas Sowell - January 22, 2013 The gun control controversy is only the latest of many issues to be debated almost solely in terms of fixed preconceptions, with little or no examination of hard facts. Media discussions of gun control are dominated by two factors: the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment. But the over-riding factual question is whether gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes in general or murder rates in particular. If, as gun control advocates claim, gun control laws really do control guns and save lives, there is nothing to prevent repealing the Second Amendment, any more than there was anything to prevent repealing the Eighteenth Amendment that created Prohibition. But, if the hard facts show that gun control laws do not actually control guns, but instead lead to more armed robberies and higher murder rates after law-abiding citizens are disarmed, then gun control laws would be a bad idea, even if there were no Second Amendment and no National Rifle Association. The central issue boils down to the question: What are the facts? Yet there are many zealots who seem utterly unconcerned about facts or about their own lack of knowledge of facts. There are people who have never fired a shot in their life who do not hesitate to declare how many bullets should be the limit to put into a firearm's clip or magazine. Some say ten bullets but New York state's recent gun control law specifies seven. Virtually all gun control advocates say that 30 bullets in a magazine is far too many for self-defense or hunting -- even if they have never gone hunting and never had to defend themselves with a gun. This uninformed and self-righteous dogmatism is what makes the gun control debate so futile and so polarizing. Anyone who faces three home invaders, jeopardizing himself or his family, might find 30 bullets barely adequate. After all, not every bullet hits, even at close range, and not every hit incapacitates. You can get killed by a wounded man. These plain life-and-death realities have been ignored for years by people who go ballistic when they hear about how many shots were fired by the police in some encounter with a criminal. As someone who once taught pistol shooting in the Marine Corps, I am not the least bit surprised by the number of shots fired. I have seen people miss a stationary target at close range, even in the safety and calm of a pistol range. We cannot expect everybody to know that. But we can expect them to know that they don't know -- and to stop spouting off about life-and-death issues when they don't have the facts. The central question as to whether gun control laws save lives or cost lives has generated many factual studies over the years. But these studies have been like the proverbial tree that falls in an empty forest, and has been heard by no one -- certainly not by zealots who have made up their minds and don't want to be confused by the facts. Most factual studies show no reduction in gun crimes, including murder, under gun control laws. A significant number of studies show higher rates of murder and other gun crimes under gun control laws. How can this be? It seems obvious to some gun control zealots that, if no one had guns, there would be fewer armed robberies and fewer people shot to death. But nothing is easier than to disarm peaceful, law-abiding people. And nothing is harder than to disarm people who are neither -- especially in a country with hundreds of millions of guns already out there, that are not going to rust away for centuries. When it was legal to buy a shotgun in London in the middle of the 20th century, there were very few armed robberies there. But, after British gun control zealots managed over the years to disarm virtually the entire law-abiding population, armed robberies became literally a hundred times more common. And murder rates rose. One can cherry-pick the factual studies, or cite some studies that have subsequently been discredited, but the great bulk of the studies show that gun control laws do not in fact control guns. On net balance, they do not save lives but cost lives. Gun control laws allow some people to vent their emotions, politicians to grandstand and self-righteous people to "make a statement" -- but all at the cost of other people's lives. Simon, I sent word out to as much of the ol' Cal City crowd as I still have email comms with. I had hopes they'd dust off their old dropzone.com accounts and come and post their thoughts here themselves. Maybe the will in time. The responses I've gotten have all been positive and welcoming of the opportunity to jump once in awhile at the ol' place, but, for what its worth, generally, folks have said two things, to be successful: 1. A schedule of when y'all would be open for fun jumps would need to be posted somewhere and readily available for folks to see and plan for. 2. A Saturday and/or Sunday once or twice a month would be better then Thursdays or Fridays. While a few of the bunch are retired, or self-employed, most of us "regular" folks aren't going to be able to ditch work on a routine basis. Very respectfully, I don't know what your constraining factors are when it comes to saying "Thursdays or Fridays" in your OP and over the years skydiving, I've learned that making "suggestions" to a DZO can put one on thin-ice, so, I'm just trying to pass on info and facilitate discussion.
-
To be blunt, trying to be open Thursdays and Fridays once in awhile may not get you much of a fun-jumper turn out except maybe for the 1st go around, but maybe that's just saying the obvious. I'd think you'd be better off being open on a Saturday and Sunday once or twice a month. Are you thinking of only offering up opening for up-jumpers only or also offering student training (AFF) and / or Tandems too? Having said that though, if y'all got the word out when y'all were open for fun-jumpers, I'd do my best to be there to show my support and I do appreciate y'all posting this.

Good point! All she said was... ... it could be a pic of the girl(s) next to her!

Two GREAT reasons 2013 is off to a good start! Thanks!

Figured it was nothing bad, just something like that. Looking forward to "Duck Gets Current" on your blog!

Yeah, that's what usually happens to single Ducks at a DZ. Maybe the next installment on her blog will be, "Skydiving Duck Gets a Wedding ring Rig!"

I was disappointed to see... Skydiving Duck A comic series... the final installment ... in the January 2013 issue of Parachutist. I mean, great installment, but the last one?

Wonder if we will see these again?

What about an SO? (Source of Orgasm)

There's nothing in the BSRs that says you cannot do student jumps on Christmas and I've seen skydivers jump and land in snow... even here in SoCal! As for break-up v. mistletoe... sounds like the perfect reason to BE hanging out under the mistletoe!

What!!?? No skydiving on Christmas Day!!?? Or are you just gonna hang out under the mistletoe?

Well, Cal City Skydive may be long gone, but some of still get together and go shooting out in the desert, just like we used to after jumping back in the good ol' days. This past Friday a few of us met for lunch at the airport terminal (Foxy's... aka Jamie's) and then went shooting out at Far Point. While taking a walk, enjoying a fresh beverage and picking up unbroken clays to sling and shoot at again, I found this old beer can (see the photo labled "found in desert"). While rusted and very badly faded, it's amazing that its still in one piece, un-crushed and not perferated with bullet holes after being out in the desert at a spot where drunk skydivers have been shooting for several (skydiver) generations. A quick Google without even having to leave Far Point (smart phones ROCK!) found that this can once held "Brew 102" made by the former L.A. Brewery. It must have been some "good stuff" to go for 99 cents a 6-pack! Anyway, the other photo attached (NewBrew) showes what the can we found probably looked like before being discarded and left to rust in the desert for 40ish years!

Okay, I'm a bit behind the times on "e-mote-a-cons"... is that a big grin or were you giving me the tounge?
