I dunno... I would like to try the "Troy Hartman rides a piano in freefall" stunt ... but would pass on the "Troy Hartman sets his canopy on fire"... or the "Troy gets drug behind a Cessna" stunts...

(USA) Is a rig "current" on the 120th day after it was packed?
ZigZagMarquis replied to fcajump's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hey! Anybody up for midnight night jumps the day prior their reserve is due for a repack... i.e. exit the aircraft just before midnight when your reserve repack expires... -

Midnight Zulu time or midnight Local time... what if the owner changes time zones from the one the rigger packed it in... or even crosses the international date line, they could loose or gain a day... -
Bummer... (but not as big a bummer as Joe's passing, of course) ... I was hoping it would have been outfitted better for skydiving and maybe start making the rounds of DZs in CA... I thought I had heard thats what Joe wanted to do with it maybe...

I'll have to think on that one, Dave. I'm not sure how to answer it without it being a "Gripe"... which would be deleted per Sangiro's "No Gripe, Gripe Policy." -
Lines get old... canopy goes out of trim... thus: - Landings (flare) start to go to shit. - Openings can start to go to shit... I had an SBOS mal once that I feel was a result of jumping an original Sabre way past when it should have been relined. - Old worn-out lines are more likely to break. - You could die.

Zing... what happened to Joe Crotwell's Skyvan? I assume it was sold off after Joe passed away??

Frank Mott was the last guy I heard speak of owning / wanting to jump one... he was lurking Taft the last I heard...

*sigh* * Hello... McFly!* I DO understand it... I just don't LIKE it... and I don't HAVE TO like it... I just HAVE TO put up with it... I don't LIKE that I can't speak up about it... and I don't HAVE TO sip the koolaide like some of y'all are seeimingly happy & willing to do and I don't UNDERSTAND why some of y'all do... ... but this is just a posting board... -
Single of course, the Double keel was to big a bulky, weighed too much. Single keel DacTyl... caught in a dust devil... and living to tell about it... ... If that ain't flipin' off the reaper, I don't know what is!

The few jumps I have made out of a CASA the door was closed on take off. I have heard but don't for a fact that a Skyvan gets a large percentage of its lift from the shape of the fuselage. If that is a fact it might also apply to a CASA. Can a Skyvan or CASA driver jump in here and confirm this. Okay... not Pilot... but Aerospace Engineer here... ... my premise would would be that Drag would be increased on a tail gate with the door open, rather then closed... but I'd need to do some wind-tunnel experiments to verify. Anyway, in a CASA, can't the pilot open / close the door? I'm not sure, but the couple of times I've been in a CASA, I recall the Door / Ramp being electrically controlled and it was the aircrew that opened and closed it... but maybe I'm wrong, because my memories of being in the same CASA were having almost died in it on takeoff after it thumped off the "over-run" (if you want to call it that) at Perris heading for the canal and the pilot snatched it into the air... stupidist thing I ever did in my life was get back in that a^&%$@ aircraft with the same pilot on the next load... but we took off the other direction... ... but that's a different story. Anyway, didn't Perris (not picking on Perris, great place) when they first got the Skyvan have a big "Roll-Up" door that went vertical across the "big hole in the back"... but later went back to the "production" in-flight door that covered the whole "sloped" surface. Anyway, anyway, I'd doubt a Skyvan or CASA get much lift from their fuselage "shape", maybe some, but I'd venture to guess the Skyvan has a "lifting strut", but I'd have to take a closer look at one to tell... I know some Sherpa's have them. Sorry... you got an airplane geek talking about airplanes...

Single Keel or Double Keel DacTyl??
-
Yeah... and after that Mikey kept rotating to one side off heading on opening... we tried to get him to adjust by shortening the break line on the opposite side on his canopy, but he never went for it...

John, I beg to differ. I am listening, I just think it is some of y'all that are not. I feel my point is being missed... or ignored... or not understood by some because of an incapacity on their part... or, my bad, I'm not expressing myself well enough. I am not hung-up on, nor think, that it would be good or okay for all forums to be unregulated. I do find dissatisifaction that Sangiro and his Moderators see fit to edit, alter, delte, supress posts (speech) of members when they see fit to do so because of their own adgenda and view of how things should be. I also am taken-aback that some of y'all think such bevaior, in the thinly shaded vail of "regulation" is okay. That's not regulation, its socialism. However... I capitulate several facts... 1) This is just a posting board. 2) This is just a posting board... and not regulated by the Freedoms and Liberty of Individual Rights perserved by the U.S. Constitution. 3) This is just a posting board... that is also multi-national and many members don't share, agree with and in some cases oppose the viewpoint of #2. 4) This is just a posting board... -
Yeah, Cal-City gets banged on for dust devils, but I've seen worse (bigger) ones at Perris. Probably doesn't really have anything to do with either location, just happen stance. Either way, they're really scarey when looking at them from under canopy.

You honestly believe that someone else editing your speech is "okay" because of some "greater good" that is theirs to decide. * shakes head * * sigh * DOOR! -
Vans (On Your Feet) - Why Do You Wear Them?
ZigZagMarquis replied to slotperfect's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hmmm... like a lot of things along these lines, its probably a lot less "scientific" then you think... its probably just "style"... most skydivers are just lemmings when it comes to such things... -
... and keep on saying it. I wish more would. I've been yelled at too by pilots and seen others "called to the front of the plane" too... most of the time we deserved it...
