  1. What... don't like "corn fed" strippers???
  2. Like, I'm sure most folks know George H.W. did his AFF1&2 as well as a couple of Tandems with the Golden Knights... ... the shameless, "I assembled his rig", self-plug was a bit much Rob.
  3. George H.W. Bush had one jump... on a round... landed in water... long before he became President of the U.S.
  4. Well said airtwardo... and I too understand what PB is saying, but also think he's wrong... and he thinks I'm wrong... *shurgs*... I can live with that.
  5. No. There are no rules. There are no time limits. Just remember... He who lives by the pie... Dies by the pie In short, "Pay-back is a Bitch"
  6. Hey rapter! How you liking Kansas?? Any good nudie bars there??
  7. If you can... find out how many jumps the canopy has on it, total... find out if the lines on it now are original... if not... find out how many jumps on on the canopy since it was last relined. Then, with this info, go talk to the rigger that inspected the canopy. He or she will know more about the specifics of your situation then folks here... ... but generally speaking, when a canopy needs a re-line depends on a lot of things... type of canopy, size of canopy, type of lines, number of jumps, environment jumped in... to try to name a few, not necessisairly all of the factors... if we're talking Spectra here, its pretty safe to say, that generally you're looking at a line kit every 500 to 800 jumps... maybe more, maybe less... I'm sure someone will have something to say about that, because it all "depends"... Good luck. Good on you for asking questions here, but talk to your local riggers too.
  8. hmmmm... yeah, she either cut up the guys rig... or the whole thread is just a troll...
  9. Maybe just my take on what PB wrote but it seems to me that you're agreeing with him and being contradictory in one post. You think some people shouldn't do a tandem because the increased risk is too much but you also think it's a good idea to charge heavier students more to discourage them from jumping? Seems to me that the simple answer there is to refuse them, not charge them more. Yes and No... pick a number at which you would say they should be "refused"... lets call that number 100 Labrys'ans... okay... then if someone shows up at the DZ that weighs 99 Lbrays'ans... they're "in"... but the next person next to them weighs 101 Labrys'ans... they're "out"... seems simple, right??? Well, things aren't that simple. Its called "reality". So... you say if someone weighs more then 90 Labrys'ans... you charge them 1 additional wooden nickel per Labrys'ans for their Tandem jump up to a limit of 110 Labrys'ans. Its a way of fuzzing things up to avoid arguements and at the same time allow for the 20 something year old rugby player that's in shape, but a bit heavy on the Labry'ans scale that you may say, he or she is okay to jump as opposed to the 40 something year old person that has spent the last 20+ years sitting on a couch eating bon-bons that one day decided it was a "good idea" for them to go out and try the most extreme sport possible and that the last 20 years of sitting on a couch eating bon-bons has prepared them for it... ... look, this whole arguement boils down to good judgement. There's not a court in this country (I hope) that will convict you for NOT letting someone make a skydive.
  10. SS... define "removed" and "a mess"?? When you say you "removed" YOUR PD126R from your EX-BOYFRIEND's rig... this didn't involve knives, scissors or a blow-torch... did it??? Anyway, as long as you didn't damage the lines on the hook side of the velcro taking it out of the free bag or untying the toggles or cut anything to get it off of the reserve risers... it will be a pain, but probably not something your rigger cannot sort out.
  11. [fair warning... I'm not a TI] ... what caught my eye more was... like someone up post already said... 1) When did the Tandem Student loose his goggles... and... 2) It looked like both the laterals and shoulder (student harness to tandem rig top attach points) look to be "looser" then they should (could) be. ... oh yeah... and 3) The Student being fetal (reverse arch) out the door surly didn't help... [/fair warning] Other then that... yeah, kinda a lazy throw... I saw one similar a little whiles back that resulted in the drouge/bridle horse-shoed on the TI / Student's legs... after trying to clear it... the TI did the emergency procedures thing and got him and his studnet under the reserve at around 9K after being basically drougeless since leaving the aircraft.
  12. Good point... I guess in doubt, you could pull both and hope for the best, but hope as a stragety and/or rigging in freefall isn't the best of plans. Personally... IMO... the traditional silver metal D-ring for the reserve rip cord and a soft (non-loop) pud for the cut-away handle is the way to go & choose a color for the cut-away pud that contrasts with your rig & jumpsuit. I always get Bright Orange as my selected color for the cut-away pud because I'm a 98.9% Black Rig & will never get an international orange jumpsuit kinda-guy... wouldn't work for Sparky, but works for me...
  13. PB, good customer relations withstanding, at some point, I'd hope, you would agree that a person may not be physically suited to go make a tandem skydive... being overweight would be one of those reasons. Now we can argue all day about whether or not a little or a lot overweight is okay or not, but somewhere in there you have to draw the line that its not in the best interest of someone overweight to go make a tandem skydive. OBTW, I'm not a TI, don't want to be, never did, but I do think I feel that a TI is risking more on a skydive then say an AFF instructor by the nature of what a tandem jump is... so (just my 2 cents), but why shouldn't they get an extra little "benifit" for taking someone that marginal when it comes to approaching the weight limit, no matter where you draw the line... OBTW, there are max weight limits for any given tandem system for combined instructor + student weight. You aren't saying its acceptable to exceed that? Consider this too... good, bad, right or wrong, like it or not, wake up and smell the coffee, a "fat tax" is an effective way of weeding out folks that show up at the DZ that are too overweight to jump. Which would be better, to have a thousand pissed off fat people turned away from the DZ or one wider than tall student fall from their tandem harness on opening???.... Skydiving isn't for everyone.
  14. I believe too that Emerald Coast is the closest DZ to Pensacola... and what are "peepz"?
  15. The history books bro, how many people have been slammed by those things, were da bomb in thier Once you get a new canopy you will see. I have a new canopy... a Sabre2 in my new rig & a Classic-Sabre in my old one. OBTW, IMO, yes, Classic-Sabres opened hard from time to time, I can atest to that, but they're not as bad as their rep perpetuated by rumor would indicate... but but... that's a different topic...
  16. Which way did the Saber 1 go?? I jumped mine twice this past weekend.
  17. From the Skydiver's Competition Manual... Para 1-1.7 Equipment & Clothing: E. Controversy concerning competitor's equipment suitability will be settled by the Meet Director, whose decision will be final. So... what did the Meet Director have to say about Vixen's toppless round 10?? Also... anyone ask them why they did it??
  18. Some appropriate Tape / Webbing, a sewing machine & some E or better yet F-Thread would be better then some misc. crap...

  20. yeah, you're right, but but I was trying to make a general statement to pass on some general knowlege to some new folk... but had to get it all picked apart... fuck it... I deleted it.
  21. What about the big fat ones. I choosed to not go for the mini. I dont care that my slider doesn't go down all the way. A little bit of Rigging / Gear 101... go checkout: http://www.paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=31&level=2&parent=193 1. Scroll down to Type 7 webbing... that's what the main lift web / leg straps are made of on most rigs. 2. Scroll down further to Type 8 webbing... that's what "the big fat risers" are made of / what most all main risers used to be made of "back in the day". 3. Scroll down further still to Type 17 webbing... that's what the "hip" "new" skinny main risers are made of on a large number of rigs today... a lot of chest straps too. Enjoy!
  22. Type 8s... forever, if cared for properly and/or not damaged by some accident. Type 17s... (a.k.a. mini risers)... replace them every main line-set is a good rule of thumb, which translates into about the #s folks up-post have thrown out on how often to change them. OBTW... if you run across a set of Type 17 risers that is "un-reinforced"... i.e. not reinforced where the gromet is punched thorough the riser... I'd strongly recommend to the owner that they be replaced NOW!
  23. When did I say any of that was a bad thing? I was just trying to point out... and you piled on and helped that... is what motivates DZOs & "professional" JMs is $$$ and "lifestyle"... so don't think for a minute that the attarctions of the tandem-only progression dovetails nicely in with that... what a coincidence... really? ... futhermore, as you demo'ed, that also is a good thing for us DZ-rats that just want to skydive. so... Adave... SO!?
