I have a few iMovie plugins to do various things. I hardly use them. What sort of effects are you interested in being able to do? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

On a wingsuit jump I did last Saturday my flocking partner and I got the following freefall times: My Neptune - 55 secs My Protrack - 61 secs His Neptune - 71 secs His video - timed at 61 secs. Our deployments were within a second or two of each other. He was getting linestretch when I tossed. Both Neptunes were worn handmounted and the Protrack was inside a front pocket on my wingsuit. Anybody have any ideas why we got such different readings? -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I still use a PC-1. The main drawback to it is the battery life isn't as good as with newer cameras. Otherwise it has a Zeiss lens and super steady shot and the video quality is good. Due to the battery life I wish I had bought a newer camera. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Ok, here's a good one for you...there used to be a DZ just north of Syracuse, NY just like that! When I lived in Kingston, Ontario I used to head down there mid-week occasionally to jump with a buddy from Syracuse. None of the local instructors would drop students for the dzo so he flew and dispatched students himself...by SL on cheapos...from 2000' (so they wouldn't drift so far away). His 12 or 13 year old son did ground control by shouting at the students with a megaphone. The son also packed the mains I believe. His aircraft smelled bad...like leaky oil or other engine fluids. We used to have to fight with him to go higher than 5 or 6 thousand feet. It was the only aircraft I've jumped out of that I really doubted and made me extremely nervous. It was the worst DZ I've ever been to..hands down! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Hard landing in Perris; please post condolences here
murrays replied to Conundrum's topic in The Bonfire
Here's a photo taken of Perry after his first jump on his new GTI wingsuit on his last day of jumping in Saskatoon. Great shot of a perpetually smiling, happy guy. We sure miss you Perry. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -

Go for the 10 kg/22 pound bag like Jay Beavis and Collin Sinclair.... The stills don't do the video justice, one of the funniest things I've ever seen. The stills were taken from Collin's year end video for 2001. Who's gonna be first to get one of these in the large size? I bet Lori (ltdiver) will not be able to resist. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I jumped at Gananoque from 1981 until 1990. I used to work 3 on, 3 off shift work and lived on the dz in the summer so I spent a lot of time shooting the breeze with Tom. One of my favourite memories.... We were discussing someone with 500-600 jumps who had quit jumping. Tom says to me,"He said he was bored with skydiving. How can you ever get bored with leaving an aircraft?" Obviously Tom never has!

Apple laptop always worse than desktop of almost same stats?
murrays replied to skipro101's topic in Photography and Video
Hey guys, We don't need to have this fight...it's happening on this thread right now. Actually some interesting information on there about Alienware PCs, dp G5s, etc. I think it's safe to say the tradeoffs between laptop and desktop exist on either platform. When you cram stuff into a small case you have to make sacrifices due to power cosumption, heat, etc, etc. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -
Apple laptop always worse than desktop of almost same stats?
murrays replied to skipro101's topic in Photography and Video
Interesting. Both my Quicksilver and PB G4 (both are G4's actually) came with stock 256 RAM. ltdiver btw, where'd you hear that I love my PB? Processor cache memory is different than Ram. Some processors have level 2 and some have level 3. Some machines have none. The presence usually improves performance...how I really have no clue. A little birdie told me about your love for your PB -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -

Don't know if it is necessarily different chip architecture but laptops and desktops usually differ in the amount of cache memory they have, bus speeds, hard drive spin rates and lots of areas.....in the end, listen to what Lori said...she uses a PB and loves it! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey -
I believe he was at least 100 but can't recall the particulars. He jumped at Vernon BC I think. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Roy, Add more ram and get ready to buy a larger hard drive....I have 180gb and it's nearly all full. You will have to be very disciplined at removing stuff as soons as you're finished working. You'll likely have to add a Firewire card as well. This would involve the purchase of a Mac but iMovie is a great program for even the non-technologically challenged. You will find many of us on here use it. A new eMac with 512 mb of ram and 160 gb hard drive is about $1275...with a DVD burner and all the software you need. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I borrowed it from Tom McCarthy of Skydive Gananoque. (You finally getting a good night's sleep in Calgary Ian?) -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

That's right, he put together the people that got it done for him...at a fairly minimal cost in salaries. I love seeing the small market teams compete..be it baseball, hockey, whatever. I loved watching Calgary knock off Detroit..LOVED IT!! Old, arrogant and overpaid...man I loved watching them go down! Only things that compare are anybody taking out the Flyers (and for that I have to thank Tampa) and Eric Lindros either not making the playoffs or making an early exit. Needless to say I hope the Pistons can knock off the Lakers. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Ok, I have all of 1 jump on a Dactyl before this one so I figured I'd try and stand it up....shoulda PLF'd but no harm done. Man does the ground ever come up fast at the end! Hope you never burned your house down setting off fireworks last night Tunaplanet but we aren't going to have to wait for next year....World Cup coming up and Canada is going to kick ass! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
-
Hey Tunaplanet, I'm not making excuses..you posted that it was a goal. Calgary had other chances to win and didn't. When you don't get a call you can't sit and cry about it. That's the way it goes. Tampa is the Cup Champion and good for them, they had to dig down deep and play their guts out to beat the Flames. As much as I wanted Calgary to win, I'm glad to see Andreychuk win a Cup. He's had a long career, scored a ton of goals and it's nice to see him get a ring. This was likely his last game so he gets to end it at the top! Flames did great...way better than most people ever expected. Hopefully there will be a next year! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Gee, if Calgary had got the call on the questionable goal on Saturday it would have ended in regulation in Game 6. Just another question for you...what version of iMovie are you using? I had problems with iMovie 3 with a camera that worked flawlessly with iMovie 1.0 and 2.0 and now works well with 4.0. If you have iMovie 3 run, don't walk and pick up the latest iLife suite. iMovie 3.0 was a horrible piece of software thank god it is gone. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Here's a brief clip of Annette K. doing an excellent job of hopping aboard my back and going for a rodeo dive earlier today. First rodeo dive for both of us. Collin Sinclair did the video and got a great angle on this exit from our club's C182. Very cool way to end the 24th anniversary of my first jump...doing something completely new with a skydiver (Annette) who wasn't born when I started jumping.
