Yeah it was his Beech. Rozzo still had two more Beeches when he first came to Vegas to open his DZ. They were both painted purple and silver and had Imitari Airlines on the side. Well that Board member is a friend of mine too so I will reserve comment on that. I was at SLV one day when Michael pissed off a group of doctors from the midwest.....experienced jumpers. He kicked em out the front door and locked it.....boy were they mad. They took a metal garbage can and tried to bash the DZ door in with it. The cops came and just asked the doctors to leave saying this was a regular occurance at SLV. I caught up with em and took em to Skydive Mesquite. bozo Pain is fleeting. Glory lasts forever. Michael was a good instructor, ran a clean efficient operation. His gear was beyond nice. I am someone that if you asked Michael I am still his friend so I feel I can say this truthfully. In his years at the Boulder City Airport running Skydive Las Vegas he did more to hurt skydiving than the Skyride folks have yet to do. I am not talking behind his back because I said this to his face on more than one occasion. The first time I landed in corn it was full growth and like 8 feet tall. I couldnt see the ground and broke my ankle on one of those tall planting rows when I touched down. That wasnt the bad part......now my canopy is up on top of the corn....the lines are all spread out between dozens of plants wrapped and knotted. Try getting that all picked up and walk out with a broken ankle. The best part , after I had walked/limped for a half mile I climbed thru a barbed wire fence and the cows started chasing me.....thinking I was gonna feed them I guess. Thats my horror story......Ive seen much worse in the grapevines up at Lodi.....6' stakes every 8 feet with wire from top to top for miles. Its ugly. bozo Pain is fleeting. Glory lasts forever. Got in 10 jumps... landed at the airport once... and YES I had a square.. a Parafoil... but the spots were so atrocious out of the DC-3's and the Lockheed Loadstall...to this day I HATE CORN jumps... damn stuff is evil I tell ya DAMMIT JEANNIE ! I think part of what made it wierd was him asking for a good wine without even the slightest hint as to a direction. I mean even just red/white, sweet/dry, with fish vs. with steak...something! I think Spanada is always a good choice.

As I remember it, Michael got sued over those fatalities, it cost him a couple hundred thousand to defend himself (he eventually won). Can't imagine why any DZO would do what was in their best interest. BZZZZZZZZZZZZT wrong. He got sued over the collision of the cameraflyer with another jumper who survived. Hawkes originally opened Skydive Las Vegas when he left the DZ at the NLV airport. He had a pretty good DZ for quite some time...he even asked me to work for him as a TM/I. I jumped there quite a bit until he instituted the AAD mandatory rule. I had heated words with him and left as did most of his jumper base. A couple years later after he had two fatalities there he banned all funjumpers for reasons known only to him. The rule is still in effect under Brent Buckner. bozo Pain is fleeting.
