Wing Loadings - who is over?
bigway replied to jumpingjimmy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jimmycricket, how do i find out the BPA recommended wing loadings for jump numbers? .Karnage Krew Gear Store . -
I think i bought up this screening people thing. The problem is, i was saying that it would suck if this trend was to continue cause then we would have more restrictions placed upon us such as screening and background checks, mental health reports etc.... In no way do i think this is a good idea cause i for one know i am pretty fucked up and dont want my license to be taken away The fact is, the BPA is very strict as it is here concerning practical participation in this sport, if many more incidents like this occur surely the restrictions would get a lot more stricter. People kill themselves many ways, but we are in a minority sport over here that is sometimes frowned upon by the public, we dont need this. If someone wants to kill themselves, do it with a belt or pills or something where they are not going to hurt a whole community in the long run. Three years ago this Steven Hilder accident'suicide/murder happened and out of the last three deaths i have heard about over here the media has twice reverted back to telling the story of Steven Hilder. Even for some of us the way they are telling the story while speaking about the suicide is getting some of us confused with 'how did the scissors get in the car' For an average person they are going to maybe start thinking it is murder and that we murder our own. No matter what way the press tell this story the public are going to see skydiving over here as a way to kill yourself with a smile or a community full of murderers. This is a big deal when there is only 4000 jumpers in a country and three out of four deaths in the last few years have been reported as suicides. Needs to be treated like a big deal. When someone goes in on a regular jump, it is a big deal and we learn ways to help stop that from happening again. When someone kills themselves are we meant to just learn nothing from it so it can happen again? Just 'oh well, nothing you can do about it' What can we do about it? I dont fucking know but there has got to be something. A few more of these incidents over the next couple of years and my heart tells me that skydiving will not be such an easy sport to take up over here in the UK. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

Where did you get that information from?? The guy in Scotland went to another dropzone away from his home dz and took his rig off in front of his mate while in freefall. (so i heard) It seems you are pressuming that some of the incidents in this sport are suicides covered up. Are there any you are reffering to? .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

That was me. I am going to edit that from what i said as you are right it is wrong. I did put in brackets that it was a figure of speech, i never felt that way, i just was trying to portray how mad i am about this. I know suicide is very sensitive, i come from the country that has the highest teen suicide rate in the world. I have been to 9 suicide funerals of friends i grew up with and old school mates. I had a friend kill herself when she was 16 cause she did not want to have sex with her boyfriend. Please let me retract what i said, i know in writing it can sound very cold hearted, i more was just trying to say how mad it makes me that someone come to something i love so dearly and took ther life. It is also makes me very mad that our 'brothers' out there have to deal with this rubbish when this is not what the signed up for. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

THOTS ON THE DIPLOMA IN COMMERCIAL SKYDIVING
bigway replied to sight_burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I do not have first hand knowledge on this but from the students videos i have seen from his revamped AFF course is I think a 16 stage course. It also involves only one instructor, might be two instructors for the first level though. It is very different and am very suprised this has not been discussed on these forums yet. I am not one to comment on what is better and safer in regards to AFF For that I think you should maybe email the school and ask for a video of their AFF course as it is very interesting. As far as i know, Geoff is in charge of the student training in New Zealand and is a very respected man in the skydiving community from his experience. Sorry I can not say more but i was asked to apologise as someone took my differences with the administration of this course thinking that i was putting down Geoff and his training methods/safety of the course. My last post was to make it clear that in no way am i putting down the safety and instruction of the skydiving that is part of of this course. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . -
My point with this is that the only media i ever see in the UK about skydiving in the three years i have been here is what has turned out to be three apparent suicides. Now, I agree with you, the dropzones where these happen must be devastated, it must put the shits up the operators taking new people on board and the financial lost this particular dropzone could suffer just coming into the UK summer could be huge. I hope it is not but i must say, i have not heard much about this in the media this time. Maybe i am not looking though. The BPA are trying so hard to get media out there for us, i have just been speaking to the media co-ordinator last week and he is saying that television stations here are not really interested in covering skydiving, This guy is trying so hard to get good stuff out there and now this happens, this just damages everything good that could have been shown. Myself just had a proposal i have been working on for some time involving celebs over here being voted by text messages on national television to take a tandem skydive, while little segments showing stories from other jumpers how skydiving has changed their lives for the better and then putting in segments of records from around the world. A production company that has a top show over here was getting involved to back this for the proposal, as well as us having a dozen celebs already saying yes they would take part. Today i get an email from this production company saying that they can not take part in this anymore and are pulling out before it goes any further as with recent events it is not something they can be part of. I know now that my proposal is going to come back hard and hit me in the face from the network that were fairly interested in hearing more about it. Do not mistake this for me losing out, this was something i wanted to happen for the UK skydiving development. My point is no matter how hard this country tries to put a good, safe light on this sport, how can the BPA survive if every year someone uses our sport for such a selfish act? I know there would be a long way to go yet but if much more of this continues surely skydiving to the general public is going to start looking like a portal to take your own life and then the small amount of jumpers in this country (4000) are going to have to pay the price of this with more restrictions and more health checks or even higher insurance costs, not just with the BPA but also with their life insurance. I dont know what they can do but i sure hope they can do something to stop this. If i ever meet someone new and they know i jump they dont go "WOW", they dont go "COOL" and ask the standard Wuffo questions, they straight away refer back to the 2 suicides before this, now there is three that are in the media spot light. You can see from the reports, even the media is reffering back to previous suicides. Sorry mods if this is not right for the forum delete if you want but this seems to be where the discussion on this is. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

I can smell that from the UK. Fill in your profile please. I am looking at going to Thailand on my way back home with a few mates. Have been there 7 times already never jumped though in thailand. This time was going to be a full on jump fest for our group. The only concern is taking our rigs to thailand and carrying them around everywhere. Please fill in your profile so your statement can be taken serious as at the moment it really smells like you are trying to bring up an old thread to stir that bullshit i can smell all the way over here in the UK. I really hope this dropzone is not as bad as i have read, but then again it is only one person who sounds like a real problem customer and now some random mate of his trying to save his face. I am really looking forward to thailand jumping so please do not make me worry about this crap if you are full of shit. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

45 jumps to level 7, I am serious, you should ask the USPA for an award, you have got to be a record holder. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
-
Sorry, i projected that with false knowledge. I thought that was something you would be able to do in America as well as the country i am from. The rest of my statement stands though. It is now the responsibility for the DZO to notify the authorities or he could be also held responsible if something terrible was to happen. He has now made him part of this and needs to report it. I believe any stand up DZO owner or rigger should report this if they care about the safety of our sport. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .
-
He would be in the right confiscating the rig and keeping the jumper on the premises while he called the FAA and the police. It is called a citizens arrest. There are probably multiple charges here and the DZO could detain him on fraud to begin with. Sounds like the DZO gave the guy a chance, I think it is now this DZO's duty to call in the authorities cause if this is to continue and there is a death then the DZO is now part of this circle and should be liable if he has not made contact to the authorities. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

Try contacting Andy Ford. I have seen him work with students on the dropzone and also he takes you personally to the tunnel. He works really well with students and has grat communication skills. If you did want tunnel time he would also be in there with you so you would not be dealing with multiple instructors. You can find him at Weston on the green or Hinton. Sounds like you just need to relax and not arch so hard, more just relax and push the hips forward. P.S. no point in trying not to mention a dropzone when you have it in your profile .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

The thing is mate is that all of her posts are making the people that trained this person shit. Have you read her posts? they are all saying that if you train at elsinore, you can buy your D license whiole doing AFF, that packers should get paid less, that jump tickets should go up and then making light of the tragic flight 93. There are alot of newbies reading these posts and it is not something they should be reading, that you can buy your 'D' license with only having 25 odd jumps? come on, there is no humor in that. If this is a real person, she has just made her AFF instructor at one of the greatest dz's in the world look like a criminal. .Karnage Krew Gear Store .

THOTS ON THE DIPLOMA IN COMMERCIAL SKYDIVING
bigway replied to sight_burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey Shaun, I just did not like the way it is set up financially and the way that there is no way to get money back on missing jumps and how they will take jumps from you for any reason they can think of. I have been told a lot about Geoff Mundy and how the training he provides Is first class. This has got to be good for the course having him there. I hear he has come up with another way of teaching AFF, which from the videos i have seen of students seems to teach alot more before the student heads out 'to the big world' on their own. I jump alot with a uk jumper who was trained by Geoff and he praises him everytime the course is mentioned. I have seen first hand the quality of skydiving thast is coming out of this course, i feel the students on it come out knowing alot and have a lot of respect for safety. This was never an issue. The issue has always been the administrative way things are done and how they can deduct jumps from you for being late etc. As i said, they told me to get a medical certificate after the dzso said i should not be jumping. I got a medical certificate and then they said you are only allowed 5 days off in the contract so they took 30 jumps of me that were already paid for. That is unfair and wrong. Shaun, i would never put down the safety of any skydiving in new zealand as i think NZ is a fantastic place learn. Geoff is in charge of all AFF programmes through nz and i commend the job he does and the dedication he has and puts towards students in NZ. He has got to be a plus for the course. But i bet you were suprised on how many jumps you get are hop'n'pops and i bet you are also suprised that their turbine never seems to be running for you guys and alot of your jumps are from under 10,000 feet. The money you pay on that course is a rip off. For a kiwi doing it it is subsidised by the government by $5000 but for a foreigner it is $15,000NZD. That my friend is very expensive, any other dropzone will be $30 a slot to 13-14000 feet. you guys pay something around $50 a slot and hardly ever get to altitude. Any way Shaun, good luck see you when you get back, sorry to get you in trouble. .Karnage Krew Gear Store . -
UK: Bigger and Better at Langar for 2006
bigway replied to cpoxon's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I just learnt some thing this weekend... Langar, these guys know how to fucking PARTY!!!!!! Saturday night was so fucking cool that jumping for me on sunday morning, was not going to happen. What a night!. On saturday i was not to impressed during the day, felt the big way organising looked to be run pretty well but the rest of it seemed very unorganised. There was only one packer, one packer for a boogie? Then there was 20 minute calls that within 3 minutes turned into 'kit on calls'. However, the Beech that was provided sure made up for any issues i had. With so many RW jumpers all them all being there for the Big-ways, i could only think that saturday night was going to be quiet, boy was i wrong, i think we left at 3 am, That Dj really got going after a warm up, the bar staff were top quality and the guys i met that were Langar regulars come across to be really friendly people. The new shower block was so clean that it made you want to shower. John Curtis gave my partner alot of time with rigging services and refused to accept any money, he and his wife have got to be the nicest people on this planet. The Big-ways were looking spectacular and i could only be in awe of being surrounded by all the uk team from the world team. What a top fuckin dropzone, gear shop had everything, food was good, dz control did an excellent job and deserve a than you, all in all this place turned out to be the dropzone i want to spend money at. I cant wait for next weekend, dont know if it is the jumping i am looking forward to or the party. Good stuff Langar! .Karnage Krew Gear Store . -
