On days where students turn up and it is too windy they should be practising packing instead of sitting around moaning about the weather and bitching about the tandems being able to jump and all the sporties. This is how it was where i was doing AFF and i ended up packing my own AFF level 1 chute. Students want to learn hoe to pack, it gives them something to do while shit weather and then they are not sitting aorund bitching to all the other students and customers. I now hate packing and do not pack. A jumper was just telling me the other day how his friends kid had a mini rig bag made for the child, i think who was an 8 year old maybe younger, cant remember, anyway they came home one day and found the kid on the side of the balcony of their apartment building seconds away from jumping. So i put a blank disk into my ibook g4 and when it asks me what to do i say open finder it then ejects it and says that there is no space on it and gives me code -34. So this time i put it in and say open disk utility and click on info and it says it is locked and i can write only. This is what it shows, does anyone know what i can do to make my finder accept this disk? All other disk i put in with something on them also say they can only be read and i can not change the permissions. Please help. it says the following in disk utilities... I am trying to find out what the general skydiver thinks of an idea and if it will work. It is already being started but just want to think what people think..... We have all sorts of clothing being made up and the label is going to be called Karnage Krew.. Now skydiving clothes are the same everywhere, there is not much original good quality that comes out all the time. I admit that mine is probably the same as well but with an added twist. Buyers will receive a password for a site that is being developed at the moment, Do not want to show you the website now as it is only a shitty holding page. With this password they can log on to the site and upload their videos and their photos to share with others. All the profits of this line of clothing will go to "the beer fund". In other words, once a year we will attend a boogie in the states like the WFFC or Eloy xmas boogie or something and put all the profits we have made from these sales in to the beer or boxes of spirits or whatever have you, depending on the dropzone and the management. We will also put up a Karnage Krew load, where we all go do a Karnage jump, paid by the profits of all clothing sold and gear sold through us. The web site is being developed by an excellent web developer, so will be great to use. Each season we will bring out a couple of new designs, the way we would come up with these designs is by people logging on to the website and uploading their personal designs. Those designs will then be voted on by visitors to the site and the winning design will add to the collection and we will have printed and ready for sale. With all money going back to the "beer fund" and "karnage jump". I know this will start off small but could it grow? i dont know? would there be an interest? I think it is an original, interactive idea for skydiving gear that is getting people involved and they get something out of it by puttin in. I am not out to make money, just out to do something fun. What do you think? One of the designs is being printed up this week and is looking like this.... This was taken off a photo that bluesbdeath posted on dropzone.com and he is very happy with what we have done with it. The front design is not the one we are using but is very similar. Another design i have being printed is the good old 'male toilet' symbol. It will be on the back and will be up the normal way but under it it will say "this way up" but the writing will be upside down. Let me know what you think of the website idea and then let me know what you think of the design that has gone to print. This idea has stemmed from an awesome time we had at eloy boogie and from a group of people that all met there and became good mates. LOL Thanks for the respect of my opinion, i too have the respect of your opinion but at the same time think you are playing more for the rise and the occation. Anyway, name you one. It was not suicide, it was just a bounce but same result death. Paraki skydiving many years ago under the original owners closed after a student bounced and this got to the owners and closed up shop. I dont know if a dz owner would turn away someone with this point of view you have but i do think they would not be happy letting you jump if they knew you had this point of view and think they would keep a closer eye on your jumping and what you are doing while in the holding pen. I have no facts that it stops people coming into the sport, no more than anyone else, we all know many people say 'fuck that' that is stupi, that is crazy etc. Cause they think there is a good chance you are going to die. We all know if you stay safe and keep to dive plans and emergency procedures that there is a hell of a good chance you are not going to die. What i am saying is that people think skydiving is the one of the most dangerous things out there, everyday people would think it is more dangerous than crossing the street or crossing a zebra crossing when in fact it is not, there are more everyday things out there that are way more dangerous than skydiving. With the lawyer thing, Does business owners in your country not have the right to refuse service at the managers discretion? I know in new zealand most shops have a sign that says "we reserve the right to refuse service at the managers discretion" I find that a shame if you guys over there can not decide on who you want to serve etc.. Here is a course i designed a couple of years ago. It would be perfect for you. You could et it done in a few months, it is dirt cheap, accommodation is free and you have some awesome instructors. You have one of the best camera woman in the world that will train you close to the end and the national team take you through your coaching. At the end of it you would have a good chance at getting work on camera considering Wendy Smith is training you but then again you will need to get to the skill level to learn camera. You get back any money you do not use on jumps. It was designed for people that want a career in skydiving and this company owns three very busy dropzones that are always looking for more staff. have a look, it may be for you, it may not. I hear what you are saying and the thing is i agree with you 100% At the same time though, if this continues something needs to be done over here, what exactly, i dont know. I dont think screening is something that could happen, i dont think there is anyway you could make this work, it is just not that easy. But how about something a little more practical? Instead of just an instructor teaching static line or AFF, you know how it is the student goes to class and gets taught. How about before the person can be taught, how about just a quick 5 minute interview with the chief safety officer or the dzo. May sound stupid but really, someone who wants to learn skydiving at the moment signs some forms and pays the money and jumps, all we are worried about is then drilling into them safety procedures to keep them safe, fine, but what if this person wanted to kill themself??? we have just missed a big step, we have taken them on and are teaching them how to be safe as that is all we worry about. Lets throw another step in the middle of it all and before we tell them anything about skydiving they sit down one on one with the safety officer and have a 5 minute talk. Questions like why do you want to do static line over a tandem? what do you want to get out of this? are you looking at completing the course? if not why not? Something like this might then make the CSO aware of the ones that are one time static line students and he can keep a closer eye on those. Instead of some shrink we have each student sit down for 5 minutes and have a talk. At the moment we more or less take anyone on to learn to skydive, why dont they/we have to go through a little interview before we can procced. Maybe this will not stop everyone from killing themselves but maybe it will stop one, maybe newbies that are going to commit suicide will realise it is not as easy as just paying the money and go somewhere else and do it. maybe not. A person that is about to kill themself want to make it easy i would think, they are not going to want to be questioned about what they are doing, they may then break down. I dont know, but would this be such a dumb thing to introduce? What do you all think? Mate, someone taking their life in our sport has a fuck load to do with skydiving. Our brothers who run these dropzones(our sport), our brothers that watch this happen(our sport) our pilots that fly these people to altitude(our sport) our brothers that gear and kit these guys up(our sport) our brothers that train these guys (our sport) our brothers that manifest these guys(our sport) our brothers that have to go and help these guys when they go in, our skydiving federations that have to deal with the media and police and familys!! are you kidding me??? Someone that takes their life in our sport via suicide, they have just made it our problem. All of the people that trained him, flew him, manifested him, took his money etc, they all helped this guy commit suicide I KNOW IT WAS UNINTENTIONAL but when you trick our brothers into helping you kill your self, you are making us load the gun so you can pull the trigger.
