The Soviet Socialist Republics was Communist. I suppose that doesn't count because they weren't living up to some ideal communist definition. Are you the treetop lord of the sky that was running for USPA director almost 10 years ago, campaigning on rec.skydiving? It is all about Humanism, isn't it? Humanism sounds better than Socialism and Communism. Much easier to sell it to college students in a Sociology 101 class. It is still lacking in liberty. I would think safety features should be a consideration. _Am I wouldn't get the skyhook even if it was free. I realize I'm not like most, as I also don't use my RSL. Perhaps my attitude is indicative of my years. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. They seem to have a low base price, but the base is very "basic", so a LOT of options that you will very likely want add up quick, so be sure to be looking at a realistically outfitted total. analog, digital, audible altimeter..what to get?
sundevil777 replied to jamelin123's topic in Gear and Rigging
Altimeters are a good example of an item that is best bought used, unless of course money is not a concern for you. If you aren't in a real big hurry, just check the classifieds several times per day and jump on good deals (not lousy deals - bad condition/too expensive) when they show up. Even if you don't like what you buy and ultimately want to get something else, you'll be able to easily sell it (within 1 day) without losing money. If you're going to buy an analog, my advice is to not be tempted by the Altitrack, but instead go for a Galaxy (it says "Galaxy" on the dial) with the glow-in-the-dark face. You should be able to get one for $100. Don't get the previous generation before the Galaxy (Alti-III? I think they were called), as these don't have the inexpensive and easily replaceable lens. If you do get the earlier version, it should cost less. The AltiII is much older, larger, and not appropriate for a wrist or hand mount location. The Viso, VisoII, and Neptune are all commonly available used, just got to be fast to get them when they show up, but watch out for those that have had a tough life. You should be able to get close up pics showing that they haven't been abused and the display works. Start here for some good articles. A lot depends on how much money you want/have to spend. If you can find people that you trust, you can let them give you primary guidance. Avaicom stops production of Argus for sport market
sundevil777 replied to PhreeZone's topic in Gear and Rigging
Are they all like a cypres, where it takes turning it off and on again to make it run through the initial self check is required to test the cutter continuity (test for a fired cutter)? Doing that every jump is perhaps a good idea with no downside. well, isnt the whole idea of an AAD to "turn it on and forget"!? might be a naive question, and maybe a bit of a biased one, since i jump a different product and feel quite safe in doing so; one of the reasons being it's mandatory 4yrs check. turn it on and forget it would be ideal, but since we know that if the cable leading to the cutter gets damaged there isn't any indication of a problem on the display, then turning it on/off checks it again. At least a person won't be jumping an AAD that can't work, or that has unknowningly fired for more than one jump. I really don't know yet - I'm also curious about how it was chosen and have asked the photographer, he'll likely tell the story here before long (user name ChangoLanzao he found me in this thread). It just isn't seem like that remarkable of a pic, except for the beautiful rig and that it matches my jumpsuit and helmet . Years ago he asked me to sign a release, as he thought that he might be able to use the exit pics out of the jet. In exchange he gave me all the full resolution data. I was wearing goggles! Now I remember that my booties came off as I exited in a sit, sliding down the ramp on my feet - my old jumpsuit was vulnerable to that. Already got my picture on the inside cover Gonna buy 5 copies for my mother Gonna see my smiling face On the inside cover of the Oct Parachutist... And it's a shot of just me! I'm not even wearing their sunglasses. Kinda goofy looking with my legs out. From the first early morning DC-9 load at the '06 WFFC, where they finally depressurized the plane at 8k, causing instant fog and the masks to deploy. Never figured on making it into the monthly rag by means of an ad, but red white and blue do look good together, that beautifully designed Infinity on my back must have caught their eye. Win 7 64bits users BE AWARE when using Neptune 2 with Paralog
sundevil777 replied to skykank's topic in Gear and Rigging
Of course Paralog is not made by Alti-2 Inc, so there is no "responsibility" to fix the problem. However, Alti-2 Inc. does have a strong interest in making sure that their customers can easily download the data from their product. Without that capability, the Neptune looses a substantial part of its value. I hope they realize it is worth helping their customers in some way. Reserves and manufacturers' MSW - & reserve selector
sundevil777 replied to degeneration's topic in Gear and Rigging
And every rigger who has to deal with a tiny rig stuffed full stood up and cheered. I definitely don't want a rigger to be frustrated when packing my rig. I've only bought 2 new rigs (both since '02) during 31 years of jumping. Both times I told the good folks in the Great Northwest that make the Infinity exactly what canopies I was going to put in their fine product, and left it up to them what main and reserve size for them to build. I didn't put any pressure on them to make it a tight fit so that I could downsize, blah, blah. I just left it up to them. The result was predictably a fit that is just right. It looks just right, the flaps and tabs fit just right, and riggers have no problems packing it. Not so hard to do. Softest Opening Canopy

PD says that you must have done something else wrong, usually they say that the slider must not have stayed against the stops. You don't think PD would fail to admit the Sabre had a well deserved reputation for hard openings, do you? Do You Support Assassination or "Targeted Killing?"
sundevil777 replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
It used to be customary to identify yourself as a soldier. Now that isn't so common, but where that label is clearly the case, then they should be attacked as if we are in a war, which we are. It used to be that being in a state of war meant that it really was awful, and the soldiers expected to be targeted - to be killed whenever their adversary could. The fact that attempts are made to make acts of war have little to no loss of life, that wars are no longer such hell has contributed to them lasting longer. Do You Support Assassination or "Targeted Killing?"
sundevil777 replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
They aren't accused of committing civilian crimes. They are accused of waging war against us. There is a huge distinction between criminal murder and an act of war. The response is of course different. Very ordinary acts of war on both sides. None of this should be a surprise. I am encouraged to see that some (mostly liberals) want to complain about it. We're effectively at war, with a guy that declared war on us. Lots of American citizens have been so "targeted" - many tens of thousands. Softest Opening Canopy
sundevil777 replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Doesn't anyone try unstowing the brakes when it takes so long? A very long time ago I had a canopy that seemed to not open until I did that, or at least I should say I never let it just go on sniveling for over 1000 feet. That was back when canopies never sniveled for long. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. With just having an A license, you may be required to jump a rig with an AAD. Given that your rig is an Infinity, it should be relatively easy to find an Argus to buy/borrow/rent for little cost. Becoming current after 3 years
sundevil777 replied to Conundrum's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Are you unwilling to jump without an AAD? I think that if you just call a DZ, your answer on what it will take to get back in the air will be more expensive than if you just go there and check them out - don't be in a hurry, be humble but confident in your ability. Being willing to jump your own gear will help in getting easily into the air. It shouldn't be a big deal to sit in on a FJC I would think. Of course if you really aren't confident in your ability (as you have implied), then my advice is not appropriate.
