  1. Is there something wrong with flat-packing? I flat/factory packed for 30 years before finally getting a ZP canopy. When I tried packing it that way, it was a total mess, nothing would stay in place at all. I'm sure there are ways to make it work, but it seems like a lot of work for no benefit. 2. I've never heard of that happening. It would be interesting to try turning on a Cypres while climbing slowly. 4. I think not. I remember reading from the Cypres manual that it will not complete the start-up check if it detects such pressure changes. I'm not going to bother looking it up, I'm quite sure it is there. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 5. What were the concerns with the cutter, cable and Battery box. (IIRC, doesn't it use a machined billet for a battery box?). Do you think these improvements have been made? ...................................................................... Perhaps you mis-read my statement. I was trying to say that ASTRA was BETTER than Cypres 1 on all but two counts: thick control head and the need to remember to shut it off. I think there are other important considerations. I believe the Astra was quite dumb - not capable of being smart about the conditions under which it operates. It could not realize what data was due to transient effects vs what a jumper could physically do. That it was possible to get it to turn on/arm itself despite the fact that it was climbing in a plane is just one example of how software that has some reality checks in it is so valuable. 6. There are other canopies that pack up smaller than the "normal". I can recommend the Pilot ZPX (as I have one), but the Jump Shack Firebolt is also an option, maybe others. Perhaps you have reasons to focus on the Pulse. Demo canopies for really new jumpers can be a bit of a problem, as it can be hard to know in a few/several jumps if you are "evaluating" the canopy correctly, and really hard for you to make a comparison between 2 good options. I would suggest that if you do bother to try a demo, that you demo the one you think you're most likely to want (based on other reviews, or recommendations by those you trust...), and if that canopy seems too work great for you, then just going ahead with it is reasonable. You really can't go wrong with the canopies that you're going to be considering, and there is some value in not hassling with the time/money/hassle of all it takes to set up multiple demos. 7. As you mention, perhaps part of the cause of it not "hooking" every time is that there may be subtle things that can cause it to not work correctly, but not what would normally be considered a rigging error. 8. Perhaps it is not only "winning the race" that can result in the skyhook not actually "hooking". It is reasonable to think that it just fails to "hook" occasionally due to the design, or due to rigging, or ... 9. It is common now for some to place a great priority on having a skyhook equipped rig. I would never encourage a new jumper to do without a conventional RSL or skyhook type RSL. An RSL is very valuable for many common scenarios. Some, including myself conclude that they do not want to make their rig more complicated, their "decision tree" more complicated, and add new failure modes/effects that are beyond the user's control. 10. I've found them to be great. Their customer service is easily available and helpful. They make it easy to move money to other bank's accounts, and they really do refund ATM fees from other banks. Their business model makes sense to me - getting rid of all the overhead by not having so many separate branches all over the country. 15. Getting the harness modified, or re-made completely for your needs is not terribly expensive. Check with each mfg on the cost and timing. If you get the serial number of any rig, a call to the mfg can confirm if it is within a reasonable fit for you. 16. The good news is that if you ever sell your rig to get a different one or get out of the sport, it will be really easy to get rid of it at a good price. 18. Slowly pull the cutaway cable on a (single-side) rsl equipped rig - disconnect the rsl first LOL - and see what happens. No one pulls their cutaway cable slowly during a mal...the only time it matters. No one should, and no one should stop pulling when one side releases, but some do. 23. Perhaps modern wiper designs evolved away from replaceable blades because the old type allowed the blade to "rock" - not be held still due to the clearance between the channel and carrier bracket flange. The new designs on both of my cars do not allow for a blade to be replaced separately, and the blade is integrated - held in a much more stable position. That rocking would likely be bad for wiping performance, and certainly bad for noise I would think. Auto mfgs are very focused on the JDPowers initial quality survey, and a complaint for noisy or bad performing wipers counts just as much against the score as a problem with the powertrain. I just bought a good pair of wipers (the full assy, not just blades) for my Civic for $9 each. They were a big name brand (can't remember which right now) but weren't even the cheapest, so I think the $15 versions are not worth it. I find that wipers when old must collect some gunk that can't be easily cleaned off (I've tried), and then they make horrible noises that goes away with the replacements. My somewhat vague memory is that at Honda we found (wipers weren't in my design group, but I heard about it at meetings) that some kinds of wiper fluid tubing can contribute to the weird gunk that gets collected/contaminates the wipers, making it especially bad for the long tubing run for cars with a back wiper Rain X is good, but does nothing for you when driving slowly. 25. The mfg probably makes/sells them, but they are so seldom requested, it isn't a surprise they aren't an option you'll find on an order form or listed on their website (that was true for my Infinity - you have to call/email). If the original mfg doesn't offer it, try others. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
