It breaks the white looking loop Pardon my ignorance, but what is a 'flipped down riser'? How does it arise? Yeah, what he said: "what is a 'flipped down riser'?" (a search of the forum using that phrase didn't answer the question.) I believe it is when the large ring on the riser is out of position - pushed down in the way that it kinda feels like it is jammed in the harness ring. The mechanism still works (it will release if activated), but the forces on the white loop are very high because the geometry is now different putting much higher forces on the loop. Hey Cliff! I just noticed that ad a couple of weeks ago ;) It's one of the images I got during that jump when you and Hap followed me out the door. It's probably being used in other ads around the world - I rarely find out who uses my stock photos ;) Here's where they got it: CLICKY It was a great jump. We all just jumped out solo and it was a great surprise when you and Hap joined me for a 3-way. What a blast! Your memory is failing you! We planned on getting together! I would not have just surprised you. That was a great jump, safety briefing, pushing the attendant button, tray tables, the cloud inside the plane... Ahhh, to be able to go back to the days of a couple hundred billion deficits...wouldn't that be nice? I know libs like to say that the tax rates under Clinton weren't so bad. So, how about we agree that would be great, as long as we also go back to that level of spending? give it? seems that you're implying that what a person has is a result of the govt giving it to them. The proposals to improve the economy from those other than the Marxists in the White House and his buds in the Senate involve more than tax cuts. They involve things like for instance...what this thread is about. A national policy to drastically reduce the amount of oil we import from OPEC would be worth whatever higher price that requires. I think we can agree on that. Unfortunately it would contribute to inflation, but I think the overall benefit would be well worth it. Do you really believe that Obama's so called jobs bill would "put the country back on track?" His dem buddies in congress don't want to vote on it. Repubs have other ideas on how to improve the economy, but no way will it get through the dem controlled senate which does nothing but say no no no to anything proposed by their opposition. When people start writing expressions in RPN, then it will make sense to use calculators that operate that way. Just because it has advantages for software doesn't make in sensible for a calculator. I was around in the days of RPN calculators. They are not so popular for good reason. edited - just not so popular... Number of low pull/no pulls largely caused by the presence of a camera: Lots! People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

...and both were done in this case. Some of his statements show that he doesn't realize what contributed and how. That doesn't mean those at the ranch did not do enough to set him straight, but perhaps later on he's wanting to minimize the role of the camera. Seriously, lose the camera. You cannot keep jumping with the camera AND be safe. Period. Take your time and listen to all of this advice. Rudi Does everybody have to miss the point here? If he wasn't wearing a camera then this video wouldn't exist! The fact that he was wearing a camera had little to do with what got him into the situation. There was a pile of things that he did wrong on this jump that are generally considered reckless with or without a camera, and it is those things that were the primary factors in the peril of the situation. The camera was an innocent bystander, and by no means will simply removing the camera fix what went wrong on this jump. I think not. The claim that the backflying at the end was done without regard to having the camera is basically not accepted. It has been asserted that it did not contribute to the desire to get that look back up at the girl, but there is very good history behind the rejection of that. Human nature is just that way. Many other things were done wrong, but the camera is a major part of it, not an innocent bystander. Usually the reserve is behind and slightly lower than the main. This is similar to what a CRW biplane (2 separate people) would be. Even if unstowing the brakes of the main is bad in that it causes it to fly much faster than the reserve, there is no reason that you can't bring it back to the stowed condition by holding some brakes manually. It really should, theoretically, steer much like a biplane, which can be done with gentle input from the top canopy alone. A biplane is best behaved when both canopies are flying similarly, so preventing the main from going too fast would be wise and as I said above can be done even if the brakes have been unstowed. I would still flare about half way at the end, with the main. The reserve would be pushing on the rear of it, so maybe a full flare would not be a great idea, but I'd give it something of a flare. Others will disagree. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. It would be wrong to provide info that might lead you to buy it without knowing your background - jump numbers, time in sport, what and where you've flown so far and how well you've done with it, and weight. Also, the holes in the leg pads should be checked by an experienced rigger that is not beholding to the seller to confirm whether there is some not so obvious damage to the webbing. I dont know what you consider "back flying" but you were largely unstable when on your back, given that you cant fly stable in all orientations, what the hell are you doing with a camera on your head? The camera was useful in documenting the lack of flying skills, so it served some purpose. When up in the air, not so many people can see it compared to having it posted on youtube. I think it has become common to have a very low viscosity oil specified such as 5-30 or even 0-30 for some. I'm not so sure that specification changes for winter conditions. In decades past, it was common to use 20-50 in the summer, but not anymore. The non-stretch strap is so much more useful than a bungee. Here's a repost of a good article from Jan Meyer on the subject and how to get such a strap made and applied to a rig with no sewing to the rig itself: http://www.makeithappen.com/spsj/fallout.html People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Did that happen on a student rig or one made for her? If it was her rig, what was your countermeasure - did you add a solid (not just bungee) strap to go across the leg straps? " ..................................................................... Car seat-belts had to be dumbed-down to match the intelligence of the average car driver. Given the low intelligence of the average car driver, add fatigue, alcohol, distractions in the form of cell phones, pets, make-up, other traffic, pedestrians, traffic lights, road signs, etc. .... it is a miracle that so few car drivers die! A lot of cars now have pre-tensioners, so that they get cinched up if the airbags are fired. It is a very effective method of reducing injuries, as the slack in the belt is a very important factor in how far forward you'll get thrown/how hard you'll hit the wheel, etc. It should be standard equipment, but not yet. Best hand luggage bag for a Rig

FTFY What you've said sounds obvious. They should follow their written guidelines. This was not the case, as I said he was making up shit from the beginning and didn't want to nicely let me talk to his boss. When they refuse to do what they ought to do, it is not so easy to just decide to "be more vocal". They don't have to get their boss, if they want to assert their authority and not be questioned. Of course if I had caused a really big fuss (if I had "been more vocal"), then I would face the risk of putting myself up for MUCH more scrutiny (time/strip search/whatever) as a troublemaker. combine that with facing the prospect of spending a bunch of time "being more vocal" with no certain prospect of a positive result, I chose to be sure I would have the time to go back through the check in line, and give my bag enough time to get on the plane. On the distinction between nervous/stupid people...no difference in the result. Best hand luggage bag for a Rig

I once had a TSA guy tell me that new guidelines required that they open the main and reserve. I asked him to show me the paper, since I knew that was not the case, he refused. He would not get a supervisor. My only choice was to open up both canopies or go back to the ticket counter and check it in. To those that want to carry it on - not in a bag...this is not a good idea because there are plenty of nervous people out there that will get security people involved as you wait for your flight. We do not need or want that kind of attention, as the hassle resulting from such incidents will encourage individual airlines, airports, and even the whole TSA to revisit their policy that allows us to carry on our rigs. Having it visible will cause problems and hurt us all, so please just don't do it. You might have to check it in as I did anyway, so you'd want to have in a bag for that possibility. That sounds like a lot, a whole 3 days...too much, until you actually take the time (pun intended) to look at that total a bit closer. A half hour total per jump of waiting out in the sun for the plane, the jump itself, and walking back to the hanger is reasonable. Do that several times a day and you very quickly get to 3 days of exposure. Even at 15 minutes per jump you get to 3 days exposure very quickly. There is a rig that has the freebag exposed, not under any flaps. Perhaps they should be limited to just a few days of sun exposure before the freebag should be replaced, to be on the safe side? There are rigs with exposed/partially exposed reserve pilot chutes that have a bit of the pilot chute fabric sneaking out where it shouldn't - exposed to the sun. Should those be limited to a 3 day exposure? 3 days exposure is not much at all. I think you've done a good faith effort (more than that) to confirm that what seems like a smokin' deal isn't a stolen deal. Even if it is stolen, that will become known soon given how word spreads on DZ.com. Even if it does turn out stolen, the worst thing that will happen is that the real owner will get it back, likely be very happy to reimburse you, and you'll collect info to provide police if it does turn out stolen. It might just be that it is a really incredible deal and the seller doesn't realize at all what it is worth.
