  1. Of course, Zimmerman should be writing a book himself, or with the help of an established writer. He should absolutely get whatever he can out of the situation, Of course if you think he's a racist cold blooded murderer, then you won't agree. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  2. Of course doing a PLF well is good. But, there is no reason that a "pop up" should cause a bad landing. Think about managing the pop up, A pop up can be kinda fun. Don't let it pop up too much, don't let up on the toggles too much, keep flying it all the way to landing. You can often "sink" the canopy down the rest of the way from the pop up like an accuracy landing, or let if fly just a little bit so you still have a flare left. It all depends. Perhaps you can witness some others with good landings after a pop up and talk to some more experienced jumpers. You want to avoid stalling it, and at the opposite extreme, avoid letting it surge forward. Don't trust anything I've said. 3. The point is that prosecutors have the discretion to not prosecute, to not take it to a grand jury or any court at all. 4. Holy shit. do you really think that way? That's why a jury is called the "decider of fact". Don't you recognize the responsibility of investigators and prosecutors to decide when they should not proceed? That is a key part of their job. 5. If you get it for the price of shipping, you might be able to resell it for a small profit. This means that it has almost no value, except to old CRW jumpers with a strong sense of nostalgia. Just don't jump it yourself. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 6. Yep. That's what it looks like to me too. It sure could start some interesting prospects for canopies that would be single skin after the B,C, or even D lines. Significantly less pack volume, weight, less cost... People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 7. It sure looks like there is an upper and lower skin, at least for a little way back from the leading edge. 8. That seems to imply that many/most mals occur due to canopy dump/bag strip. Do you agree? I have long thought that bag dump happens far more often than realized, but it is not recognized. I agree that your speed bag eliminates that, but for conventional main d-bags, tube stows also do a good job of not breaking when you don't want them to. I understand there is still a concern for bag-lock. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 9. Rubber/Stow bands do much more than retain the lines. They release the lines sequentially causing a smoother and more gradual acceleration to speed of the mass. "Snatch" for the most of us. This makes for smoother more controlled softer openings. Thus the reason for the SPEED Bag. There has never been either a bag lock or a line dump on a SPEED bag in its 10 years of experience on a main or reserve. The Air Force academy reduced its malfunction rate from about 14/year to 1 in 3 years with SPEED bag copies. With the SPEED bag you don't have to choose which type of mal you would prefer to deal with. John Sherman I am only an advocate of tube stows for the critical locking stows, 2 in my case. The reason is that I want to prevent those critical stows from breaking at a bad time. Of course your speed bag design eliminates that concern in a different way, by making every stow a locking stow. Perhaps you could make available the speed bag in custom sizes for the main bag on other rigs? I agree that tight fitting rubber bands are better for the other stows, but by the time you get to the last 2 locking stows, having tube stows just for these last 2 should not add to the snatch force. 10. Rubber Bands Break for a Reason: http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=TECH&PageID=Rubberbands&SortBy=DATE_D It is definitely true that mil spec rubber bands break. They are so prone to break that Mr. Sherman doesn't trust just 2, 3, or even 4 of them to keep his reserve speed bag closed, so why should we trust 2 rubber bands to hold the main canopy in the bag? Rubber bands are prone to breaking when you want them to, and when you don't want them to - when there is the most stress on the locking stows, as the bag is being lifted. From Mr. Sherman's article: I think that is wrong, and in any case is very much dependent on an individual's care during packing. It would be more correct to say that if you haven't had a bag strip/canopy dump due to rubber band locking stows breaking prematurely you probably will. I'll trade the very unlikely bag lock for the prevention of bag strip. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 12. Swing and a miss, B. Initial impact should result in at least a solid +2G with foot firmly in ass, Trajectory from apogee and through descent will briefly result in a soothing zeroG until impact with the ground and being confronted with your folly. Wasn't exactly meant to be taken seriously in here. Even the one correcting you wasn't right, as 0g will exist even on the way up to the apogee. 13. solution to what? the Occupy SF camp has been growing with the summer months, though still a fraction of last fall. But it's also deteriorated into a hodgepodge of scattered issues, with legalize pot perhaps being the most prominent of many. This lack of cohesion and vision is hardly new, but guarantees nothing but a foul stench on that block and the next one downwind. That's the problem with anarchists...they are so unorganized. 14. Are you saying that type persond in a tracking position would then fall faster, but they might not have much drive.....less "flat" than someone with more drive. People that are good at tracking are able to get away very quickly while not increasing their fall rate. They track away "flat" from/with the formation. Some people that are not good at tracking will lose a lot of altitude relative to the formation but not move away horizontally well. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  15. I think the "flat" refers to not falling faster than you would fall normally in freefall, so that if you were to stay in a formation, a flat track would have someone move horizontally relative to you. It is actually possible for it to be slower than normal. A person that is not good at tracking will fall substantially faster than normal, so that their trajectory is down and away relative to those falling normally. 16. The speed would need to be constantly increasing (not steady - accelerating) in order for you to feel weightless - at a 0 g condition. Being in freefall is not 0g unless there is no drag from the air, because your acceleration is less than 1g. It is important to realize that the acceleration of gravity is an acceleration (change of velocity per unit time), not a constant speed, as that is no acceleration at all. 17. Correct. It is not just that you're descending, you get the feeling because you're accelerating. Driving down a steep hill at constant descent rate gives no unusual feeling. 18. No lightweight, but not an anvil. Your fallrate should not be so terribly fast, unless perhaps you had a really strong arch. After your windtunnel time, you will probably know that a 110% arch isn't required to be stable. Just a relaxed position rather than straining in a severe arch is a lot more comfortable anyway. Getting your windtunnel time on video might be helpful to your instructors. 19. The terminology is often misused. A 0g exit is often mistakenly called a negative g exit. Being in freefall with constant acceleration is 0g. The vomit comet does that (accelerating descent). Being in orbit around the earth is 0g (always falling toward the earth as you are orbiting it). Negative g in an airplane would be pressed against the ceiling, or your seatbelt, or flying inverted, or doing an inverted loop would be more than 1 negative g. After you've reached terminal velocity while skydiving (no more acceleration), you are at 1g, even though you're falling, because it is the same situation as being in an airplane at a fast but constant descent - you'd still feel your normal weight. 21. Given those that have done knee flying (show-offs ) in the middle of RW jumps that I've been on, knee flying certainly doesn't have to be a fast falling position. 22. Perhaps a gratis rejump would be justified. He also did a great exit, good arch, looked for the instructors. To Sharksblood - How tall are you? A really hard arch is good for students, but as you will find out later if you keep jumping, those of us well endowed with copious amounts of gravitational attraction (heavy), usually don't need or want to have a hard arch. That doesn't apply to you yet, as the arch gives you more stability, and faster fall rate, than you would have if you weren't arching so hard. Later, when stability is natural, you won't arch as much as you do as a student. But of course, everything you get from the internet should be considered wrong, just listen to your instructors. 23. I once had a TSA guy tell me that new guidelines required that they open the main and reserve. I asked him to show me the paper, since I knew that was not the case, he refused. He would not get a supervisor. My only choice was to open up both canopies or go back to the ticket counter and check it in, or keep arguing and probably get detained for causing trouble. To those that want to carry it on - not in a bag...this is not a good idea. Please suppress your desire to be cool with your rig on your back. There are plenty of nervous people out there that might get security people involved as you wait for your flight. We do not need or want that kind of attention, as the hassle resulting from such incidents will encourage individual airlines, airports, and even the whole TSA to revisit their policy that allows us to carry on our rigs. Having it visible will cause problems and hurt us all, so please just don't do it. You might have to check it in as I did anyway (unless you're willing to open both canopies), so you'd want to have in a bag for that possibility. 24. Nah, no gym required. Just do some push-ups every morning and you'll be there in no time. Mabye start with 10, but work your way up to 20 or 30 and that's all you need. It's not that men are 'stronger' (sometimes we are) it's that men are usually bigger. For me to get up and brush my teeth takes more strength than for you to do the same. You spend your day moving around and operating a smaller body, so you have smaller mucsles. I have more bulk to haul around, so I have bigger muscles. All of that makes perfect sense until we get to the DZ, and both jump essentailly the same rig (yours with a smaller harness). End reuslt, I can clear a hard pull, and you might not be able to. Just some push-ups, even if you go every other day will be more than enough (along with packing your PC better). It will also help with your flare as well, another area the ladies sometimes have trouble. Along with push ups or other general arm exercises, some specific deltoid work might be a good idea.
