  1. The tensile testing is not repeated on the same area, correct? Does the area tested get marked, and how? Your statement would imply that the PD requirement to repeatedly tensile test reserves (it is every year?) is not wise. 2. Causing doctors to no longer serve medicare patients will certainly reduce spending, but it is a clear CUT in services that will be provided. Choosing to reduce spending by making it even harder for medicare patients to find doctors willing to serve them, and then spending that money to subsidize Obamacare so it looks like it costs less than it actually does, is not what Obama wants to admit to doing. He didn't actually cut spending anyway, he just transferred the CUT in medicare to Obamacare and PRETENDS that it won't result in a reduction in services. Pretending to cut spending in this manner is not real reform, it is the kind of cut in medicare that would result in conservatives being accused of throwing grandma over a cliff. 3. Obama's cut was nothing more than a reduction in how much providers are compensated for providing services. This is done without determining that providers are expecting too much, it was done by the gov't deciding that they simply wanted to pay less and expect that doctors would have to put up with it. This trend to to reduce compensation for services isn't new, but the recent actions is big, and will will result in more and more providers deciding to not serve medicare patients. Of course forcing doctors to work for the gov't at whatever rate the gov't chooses is required for socialized medicine to work, so Obama is just getting a head start on this, That is not meaningful reform, unless the reform you seek is socialized health care, all doctors working for the government, or not working at all. 4. Executives at public broadcasting said the same thing - to potential donors. Federal funding only accounts for about 15% of their funding. They could certainly make that up with cutting costs, increased efficiency/productivity just like any other company is constantly having to accomplish. Also, since they aren't really non-commercial, they could just "charge" more for their commercials or run more of them. Public broadcasting is it a symbol of all the things that do deserve to get cut. Even the little things, if they deserve to get cut, should get cut, it is that simple. Also, Romney and Ryan are proposing real taking on the big entitlement programs in a meaningful way. Of course they may not succeed, but who really thinks that Obama is going to even try. 5. PBS won't go away if they just get advertisers and run it like a business. Oh the horror!! PBS and NPR already have commercials. Their claim to be free of that is just false. They are shorter and of a different style than traditional adverts, but they are adverts all the same. 8. I used to think that flat packing (the version that used to be called factory pack) was immune from a line over. Then I had a line over. 9. I do care about voting and voter registration fraud. I do not care which side does it, it is important to stop it with voter ID laws. 10. Of course they are not. What "impartial" sources are the source of your wisdom? The default rate for CRA loans is totally impartial. UNLIKE the Heritage Foundation. It seems that you assume that any loan that was made with easy terms as a result of the CRA would be labeled a CRA loan. I assert that is not likely. The banks knew that the gov't (freddie/fannie) was buying loans no matter their "terms/worth". They didn't have to be labeled CRA. The Heritage Foundation is not impartial, but it is a logical fallacy to claim their analysis as you have done. http://finance.fortune.cnn.com/2012/06/13/financial-crisis-myths/ That completely ignores the driving influence that freddie/fannie had in deliberately buying the bad loans. Banks could write them and then sell them to the govt. That is an important factor. 12. Of course they are not. What "impartial" sources are the source of your wisdom? Since you have chosen to not let us know how they are wrong, then it is implied you accept their analysis. 13. A nice right wing theory that has been debunked over and over, including by the Federal Reserve. GREED by big banks and investors, incompetence by ratings agencies, and deregulation gave us this mess. CRA loans weren't even a drop in the bucket. I understand that liberals don't want to have their responsibility recognized, no no, drop in the bucket, nothing to see here, move along to blaming conservatives and capitalism... http://blog.heritage.org/2008/10/09/what-didnt-cause-the-financial-crisis/ *** Greed was indeed a problem, but not just on Wall Street and in the mortgage industry. It also motivated buyers who thought they could get something for nothing. Don’t omit the political greed, although politicians want to mask this by holding hearings about the faults of others but not of themselves. Thanks to politics, our government was not only an enabler, but actually required lenders to issue something-for-nothing loans. As noted by George Mason University economics professor Russell Roberts, “For 1996, HUD [Department of Housing and Urban Development] required that 12 percent of all mortgage purchases by Fannie and Freddie be ‘special affordable’ loans, typically to borrowers with income less than 60 percent of their area’s median income. That number was increased to 20 percent in 2000 and 22 percent in 2005. The 2008 goal was to be 28 percent.” The left’s affordable-housing agenda created not just incentives but actual mandates for bad behavior, especially with their political allies running those GSEs. Public outrage stopped the Clintons from taking over health care. But their HUD stealthily sowed the seeds of today’s financial mess. Government regulation cannot now be the all-purpose answer when it was the source of the problem.” People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 14. It is also good to realize that what used to be called a factory pack gives much the same result as a propack, except in varying degrees that the tail is wrapped around, and the degree to which the folds between the line groups are separated to the respective sides. 15. There are various versions, often called the same thing when they are not the same thing. A roll pack is different than a flat pack, but they are often used interchangeably. There is also the factory pack, which is definitely not a roll pack, is often the same as what people mean when they say flat pack, and is very often how reserves are packed. ZP canopies are difficult to handle with these packing methods People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 16. Yes, things were really bad, but what got us into that mess? Obummer so often talks about Conservatives wanting to return to the "policies that got us here in the first place." That is a lie. What got us in a mess is the housing bubble. Not the derivatives, but the housing bubble itself. That was driven by the liberal demand, explicit demand by liberals enforced by the very real threat of congressional investigation that banks make loans to those not able to that would never have been approved without that threat. It is liberals that once again want banks to do the same thing again. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 17. Makes the GOP's attempts to disenfranchise the poor and elderly in the name of preventing "fraud" (and their support in doing it on this forum) look like a bad case of "he doth protest too much methinks" Why isn't FOX covering it? Fox did cover it, saw it on Friday. Dems should be pushing for voter ID laws. The potential, and the motivation to commit fraud exists on both sides. You need to show ID to get Social Security and Medicare. Now I read that Canada required ID to vote! Disenfranchising, blah blah... 18. Is your loop that tight because you have a container a bit small for the canopy? Some people use brute force on the pull-up to get the loop through instead of getting each flap mated tightly into place one at a time - they do it all at once after threading through all the flaps, and that takes a lot more force. An overly tight closing loop has no extra benefit, and can cause problems. 19. You're relying on a report of "moderate spiral" to characterize how fast the student was descending? Just how exact do you think that definition (moderate spiral) is? Do you really think that because someone reported a single spiral that it really means they only did one 360 degree turn? Do you not realize that even a large student canopy can descend faster than the student firing limit. The student limits are set up so that a line twisted, spiraling canopy with a student that brain locks and does not cut away will get more nylon out to hopefully save them. For that reason, I would expect that DZs that use student AADs to instruct their students to not do any spirals at all or at least anywhere close to below the firing altitude. I believe some DZs use expert AADs on students because they know how easy it is for a student having a bit of fun spiraling to get it to fire. 20. This is from the APF incident reports summary distributed by the USPA. Pretty interesting that a novice (A licence jumper) ended up with a 2 out and shows that problems aren't unique to a single brand. For those that aren't familiar an "A" license here, is very restrictive, so unlike the US there is a strong motivation to get onto a "B" ASAP. Only mentioned because I have friends in the US with 1000+ jumps still on A licenses. So this would have been a novice on a suitably loaded canopy. Why are you calling this a misfire? 23. Those are the reversers. That's not a jumper, if it was he'd be mooning ya! Before posting my question, I had looked at lots of images of DC8s, especially with the old style turbojet engines, and they didn't have that style of reverser that stood separately behind. Now after looking some more, I did find a pic of one that has them. That was a good lesson, I thought I knew old planes pretty well. 25. Quite right. Back when we had round reserves, we knew that a landing would likely be rough/fast, with little ability to land where you wanted. With such reserves, the thinking creeps into your head that for some partial malfunctions, you're still better off to land them than the reserve. Even for high speed mals, not wanting to use the reserve because of the landing you'll face can motivate a person to spend more time trying to fix it than they should. Fortunately, the fear of such a rough landing that a tiny round reserve (I called my reserve a hi-po, because it was high porosity as opposed to lo-po) is not an issue. The fear of having to go to the last chance still is an issue. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.
