Only a fool would answer No. Never say never. Having said that, let me say that I have not encountered one yet. The Mk 2000 pusher worked well and had no reports of failures of this nature. I would not have suspected the cutters would do what they did. My crystal ball has fogged. Thus the reason for conceptual thinking. Help me! Yes, of course the potential for failure of a pin pusher/puller is very real. What advantage in terms of "not interfering with normal operation" do you think a puller/pusher would actually achieve? I think it would be worse, when compared to the type of cutter that we know has not failed. One of the very important advantages of a cutter is that it is entirely independent of whether the normal pin mechanism can work - when the pin gets bent! As we know, the bent pin scenario is a very real situation that definitely has and will happen. Do you think there is no scenario where a non-cutter type of AAD can interfere with normal operation? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

This is not a real problem. We have tested for it and while the final design completely encloses the pin, the test conditions did not and the power was enough to drive even a bent pin out. Remember the rig must not have more than 22 pounds pull force and if the pin is bent you shouldn't be jumping it. When was the last time you heard about a no pull because of a bent pin in a nylon loop? Bad cutter designs are a problem, and it seems like a problem for which the solution is well established and proven. I definitely remember hearing about bent pins that could not have been pulled when needed, but fortunately the bent pin was noticed. We should always notice a bent pin, but the reality is different. The Argus Cutter has a hole in the end of it. The piston in shapped like an arc punch, concave in the middle. This configuration can be used for a pin pusher, wasn't much good as a cutter. While the stroke is about .5 inches it has enough power to drive the pin out, I have videos. I would want a stroke of at least 1 inch. It would push against an extra pin on the ripcord which is rotated in the opposite direction of the existing pin, still pointing down. This puts all of the mechanism on the outside of the container. A bracket to hold the pusher would be no problem. Since ripcord pins are so easily bent, the loop cutter allows a save even if the pull forces are too high due to a bent pin. It has been noted by others that pins have been bent just from the tension on the loop, so the location of the reserve pin on the back isn't enough to prevent this. Video - Cutaway followed by hard landing

Some would say that not having an RSL when wearing a camera is a good thing. Of course that was countered by deploying the reserve while in a bad position for having a snag hazard on your helmet. Northern Lite Infinity - reserve pilot chute type?

Exactly what are you saying hasn't ever been tested? I think it is very bad form for a mfg to be making very serious accusations that are so unspecific. If you have details, then that is different and I'd like to know. It is just my unsolicited opinion, but you might want to consider that this may not reflect well on you. Yeah, they had a very thick leading edge! Mine was a bounce and blend pattern of browns/tans. The Spirit was about 220, I think the Wizard was the bigger version, was the Merlin the smaller size, or was that a different mfg? Can someone give me an outline of why this is a bad idea and what can go wrong? I want to see this. sounds like a pc in tow in the making! It is not so weird an idea. Think of the tab that gets inserted under the container flap as usual, but instead of the tab leading to a pillow, a hackey is attached. I think it comes down to the fact that people like the tab to hold things in place better, but some like the hackey handle. No reason that a hackey handle should have to rely solely on the tension of the mouth of the BOC to hold it in place. Perhaps there is a better way to do it for a hackey, but I like the principle of a bit more holding it in place. main vs reserve sizing?
sundevil777 replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Shoe horn/Squeezing in - bad ideas for various reasons including if you want a prompt deployment. Much better to get a container correctly sized for the reserve you should have. Of course I know this is easier to do when buying new. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I use the "old" method and have yet to be out-tracked (horizontal distance covered) on breakoff by anyone using the "new" method. I think the "new" method is just a crutch for those who are basically poor trackers. On this we agree. Using the old method can get attention by some organizers when they see a large body to horizon angle initially, even though a person does not fall away (as they would if doing a simply lousy dive away type track). The "new" method, I think just results in a slow horizontal acceleration that is not at all compensated by a slower vertical speed. A good track really does produce proper aerodynamic lift. Anyway, if that bothers you, wait till you hear about atmonauti... Ha! Atmo! Yes, I know that we can get some lift like a wing does. It is best to apply it before canopies are in so that you can get to all areas of the flaps, but it should not matter in terms of it getting to the canopy as not that much should be applied. I can say that even when applied very heavily, it did not hurt a non-zp canopy I used to own. Again, then using your legs to change the direction you are going, that you want to be called lift. Whatever, it seems to be splitting hairs when talking about how to track with ordinary skydivers. Better watch out for professors, they will remind you that you're using the term lift in a way that is not correct. how can you get maximum performance out of a track with your legs spread? you are spilling so much air between them. As someone that has a degree in mechanical engineering (even if it was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I would definitely expect 2 legs separated to have more drag than 2 legs pressed together. There might be some max drag at a particular separation, but it would not be when pressed together. To get a good fast flat track you need to minimize the ratio of drag:lift. Lift good, drag bad. Right, so the drag to which I refer would be good drag - lift. No, drag and lift have well defined definitions in fluid mechanics, and you are not using them correctly. Yes, I know that. I took my share of those classes, and I know that such terms are misused constantly. It seemed that you were replying to my earlier post, implying that there was something incorrect. It is not possible to know if you just wanted to make a technical point. I was addressing the OP specific comment - wondering if putting legs together is a good idea for tracking. Converting metal reserve ripcord to soft?

Let's not confuse the Chevrolet Corvette with the acura or honda. Not even comparable. That particular car could be repaired by the right person rather easily. I didn't think I was confusing anything or anyone. What is comparable is what mfgs do with their pre production vehicles. They cannot let them get out/get sold/given away to anyone at all. They get used for mfg purposes for a limited time and their fate is certain. It matters not whether the vehicle could get repaired. If the car is really a pre production build vehicle, then I think they will not sell the car as a whole. Of course some parts that are carry-over from production cars could be removed and sold, but Honda/Acura would not do that with their pre-production vehicles, they would be stored for a while then destroyed.
