  1. Yes Contact: Suzie@jumpshack.com No they don't, I don't know why. But I do know we are the only ones using it as we have to have it custom made. Maybe ask one of them and see if they have even heard of it. If they have be ready for some of the best BS you hve ever heard. Wow! I hadn't heard that one. It's amazing what some people will say to sell a rig. The core wire of the Red coated cable is the same core wire as the yellow. The rigidity is the same. Other mfgs have obviously heard of the red coated cable, as shown from the previous link to an old thread. I think you do your reputation unnecessary harm by these dismissive statements. The rigidity of the cable depends on the inner core and the outer layer. Is it possible that the yellow coating is more rigid than the red? Perhaps my memory is wrong about this aspect of claimed rigidity difference. 2. My memory is that the red cable was said (by some, obviously not the folks at Jump Shack), that it was not as rigid and would therefore be deflected more by the tension of the white loop. that deflection is of course one factor in the force required to operate the release. I avoid a good part of this issue by continuing to be old school and using large 3 rings. Less tension on the loop, less deflection of the cable, more tolerance on the construction of the riser. 3. I think a reminder of the philosophy behind why substantial maintenance is a good idea and what happens during cypres maint testing is appropriate. It is much more than putting it in a chamber and confirming that it works. A self test cannot confirm the accuracy and precision of a sensor, or that a cold solder joint will not function at all when the unit is later at some temp extreme, among other things. www.cypres-usa.com/english_maintenance.pdf http://www.cypres-usa.com/The_philosophie_of_reliability.pdf People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 4. Firstly I'm not sure you can draw that conclusion reliably. Certainly a self test can't fix anything, so I don't see a link. The unit was sent in for regular maintenance without having shown any error codes or trouble. A self test can't identify many faults. Of course a self test can't fix anything. Some think that a very thorough check as required by the cypres is not needed because a self test will find any problems - that thinking is wrong as this case shows. 5. The fact that it needed extra work in Germany should remind you that a self test is not enough to know if everything is as it should be, or is as you should want it to be. 7. Your total weight of gear including clothes, shoes, jumpsuit and helmet will likely be 30 pounds. That puts you at a 1.29 wingload which is definitely not right for you. There is no need to know you or how you fly a canopy in order to make that determination. That is right, they want to sell their gear. They are not looking out for your best interest. 8. I remember some AAD saves done while still in head down position, so I'm not so quick to conclude that a higher freefall speed cuts the margin for opening too small. 10. With a metal handle a person can just put their hand through the handle and grab the reserve toggle. It is easy to see if the ripcord cable is out of the way of the steering lines and such, so there isn't any need to stow it, just put your hand through it. Some might say the cable can cause some problem, but I think not. With my loop cutaway handle and metal reserve handle, on my last chop I kept both handles in my hands. It might have looked strange to have them in my hands, but I could tell the cables had no opportunity to do harm, and I could concentrate on other things. 11. My memory is that is what Airtek said. Static discharge/zapped whatever the tech term is. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  12. I am interested to know how much of a static zap it takes to make it lock up. Since you would like to have your unit updated right away, why didn't you try to make it lock up by building up a charge in the normal way and discharging it by touching the unit up against the reserve wall, or the controller, or whatever. Why didn't you do that? People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 13. The "tens" digit that the Viso has is ridiculous when in freefall. I find the Neptune's larger digits much easier to read and it only shows "hundreds", I am also farsighted. 14. Grabbing the toggle at the top, with the line exiting between the fingers is another way of adding several inches to the total length of flare without taking a wrap. 15. Quite right! Especially since rigs that can hold a 210 and fit a 230+ pound guy will be easy to sell. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  16. But you sent in a functioning unit, just hoping that SSK would update it against their stated policy. Why did you not try to zap it with enough static to get it to lockup? Either you would have been able to do it, and SSK would update it as a high priority, or you might realize how difficult it is to get it to lockup - that your disappointment in the product might have been misplaced. I would like to know how easily it can be zapped into submission. Good luck with all of that. I realize it isn't likely to happen, but it does seem like something that would certainly help SSK update units for the people that are more concerned than me, and reduce their cost. 17. Did you try to zap it into a lockup before sending it in? If not, why not? It seems that you sent it in knowing it would not be serviced. That is explicitly what SSK said they would do. I think when Airtek/SSK announces a schedule for people to get mine updated before the normal 4 year service date, I would rather they offer me a free 4 year service on the normal schedule if I choose to not have it updated before that time (in effect them giving me a discount for helping to not increase their workload). That would make me happy, and shows how confident I am that the problem will not affect me. 19. Not true, I know of atleast one crash that was caused by the pilots forgetting to remove the control lock, put the plane into a stall after takeoff and killed them. I don't think you'd find any pilots that would say they shouldn't have to be bothered with such things, as they are too busy to spend the time. I would like to know how difficult it is to zap a unit into a lockup. Is an ordinary shuffling around on carpet sort of zap enough, or does it take a determined effort to build up enough of a charge? If I were worried about this service bulletin, I would try to get it to lockup on purpose in this way and get it fixed sooner rather than later. I've been turning my unit on and off between each jump for quite some time anyway, as I like to have the cutter circuit checked. 20. That's a good handle if being short (top to bottom) matters, as some rigs with really short lift webs are. If not sticking out so far is desired, and as I prefer, then this is better... 21. You have to get it into the correct "mode" to where holding both buttons will get it to count down and turn off. Using that feature or not doesn't explain that short of a battery life. The L&B products are great, their instructions in the manuals are awful - were made by people already fluent in how to use them. 22. To get it fixed sooner, zap it with static discharge - see how much it takes to get it to lock up. It either will be fairly easy, or you might find that it withstands a big hit and you won't be so nervous about it. 23. Weren't they one of the few (or only) reserves that could be used on rigs with only one reserve riser per side, as they had been tested for that configuration?
