I certainly agree that Capewells had some maintenance issues. Once I was doing my gear check before putting it on, and a helpful visiting rigger noticed that the rivets were loose. As he clenched them down, he explained that when loose they can jam if subjected to a side load, such as when both sides are not released at the same time. I had a little less respect for my rigger after that. It was his job to check for this type of thing during a repack. The capewell release is part of the harness, after all. Rusted Capewells (not moving smoothly) is also a serious negligence issue, in my opinion. Do you think riggers back then were not likely to inspect and fix something if it did not relate specifically to the reserve? Funny.. Isn't it how the media has selective memory

It took a long time, but they finally realized that full deflection of the rudder back and forth would likely overstress any commercial jet: For accurate reporting on aviation incidents, go to Aviation Week: http://aviationnow.com/avnow/search/autosuggest.jsp?docid=1959&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aviationnow.com%2Favnow%2Fnews%2Fchannel_comm.jsp%3Fview%3Dstory%26id%3Dnews%2Fcntsb0208.xml People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. What bothers me about this is that he is using his son for extra publicity. There was absolutely no educational value for his one month old baby to witness this. The only thing gained was daddy getting some attention. Bad form old chap. If taxes were not deducted automatically, if we had to write out a check regularly to pay them, they would be lower. It would be well worth the hassle to get public opinion focused on the taxes/size of gov't. The real problem with TSA and carrying rigs on the plane
sundevil777 replied to Hazarrd's topic in The Bonfire
It would be profiling of the likely terrorists. If biker gangs were doing it then I would want the TSA to pay special attention to those looking like hell's angels members. If little old grannies were doing it, then they should be more inconvenienced. The constitution does not guarantee the right to not be offended. Not a rigger, but in my opinion, you should not worry. Holes that size in the canopy often don't get repaired if they don't grow. Do you believe your instructor when he says it has been there for a lot of jumps and is not getting bigger? If yes, then you have nothing to worry about. Thank you so much for passing on the word See ya there! Do you think it will be the usual 11ish start time?

From the article Quade cited: "Henry Ford also doubled the average wage and that put spending power into many hands, creating a middle class." As I said, he deserves credit for realizing that high productivity and low turnover could in part come from paying his workers well, but 'creating a middle class'? I think his priciples of mass production that he pioneered, and were adopted then by others deserves the credit, not just the earning power of his employees. I am likely splitting hairs, and definitely guilty of Hijacking, so to get it back on track... I think GWB is a good president. Ford did not owe his success to selling cars to his employees. He did it by, as you say, finding a way to mass produce a reliable vehicle at a reasonable price. He likely got more productivity and helpful ideas from well paid workers, and deserves some credit for this. Unfortunately he refused to produce the Rolls Royce airplane engine during WWII (Packard, with less initial capacity, took on the task of supplementing the British production), and he was a vocal racist (please exscuse me for a little thread hijacking): Henry Ford and his war on Jews People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Speaking of well educated, I'll bet GWB knows the difference between a 747 and a 767 (the planes used by the Islamic terrorists). about half as many passengers and half as many engines, no upper deck, among other things. Clinton was accused of using war to divert attention from his scandals. Now GWB is accused of using it for daddy's revenge, corporate greed. I don't believe either. Until you offer more proof of any of this, you might do well to continue your education. I saw a Bill Moyers' NOW PBS special - documentary about 'companies that profit from war'. Oh my gosh, he was so shocked that free enterprise exists in the area of supplying our military with products and services. He (and I suspect you) would be happy if only government could do it - have a vertical and horizontal monopoly on everything our military needs. If you want to stifle innovation and make our military ineffective, then proceed along this course. I think Dems would be thrilled if they could find a guy like Neville Chamberlain to be their nominee, but then again, maybe they have. I have tried that, I think you will not find anywhere near enough padding from bicycle shorts. Try wearing 2 or 3 pairs of denim jeans/shorts under your jumpsuit. Rocky Kenoyer, who set the 24 hr jump record (think it was ~400, not recognized due to 1500 ft exit alt), had a 'girdle' set of shorts made of a thick, firm padding material. You could get a rigger to tack down some really firm padding to a pair of jeans/shorts I had my Tony suit made with extra padding in the crotch. I think what he is saying is that there are circumstance where martial law may be needed to counter an attack on our country. This is quite different than what you imply. Since you refer to Gen Franks for wisdom; his opinion of our president, from the article you referenced: President Bush: “As I look at President Bush, I think he will ultimately be judged as a man of extremely high character. A very thoughtful man, not having been appraised properly by those who would say he’s not very smart. I find the contrary. I think he’s very, very bright. And I suspect that he’ll be judged as a man who led this country through a crease in history effectively. Probably we’ll think of him in years to come as an American hero.” On the motivation for the Iraq war: Contrary to claims that top Pentagon brass opposed the invasion of Iraq, Franks said he wholeheartedly agreed with the president’s decision to invade Iraq and oust Saddam Hussein. “I, for one, begin with intent. ... There is no question that Saddam Hussein had intent to do harm to the Western alliance and to the United States of America. That intent is confirmed in a great many of his speeches, his commentary, the words that have come out of the Iraqi regime over the last dozen or so years. So we have intent. “If we know for sure ... that a regime has intent to do harm to this country, and if we have something beyond a reasonable doubt that this particular regime may have the wherewithal with which to execute the intent, what are our actions and orders as leaders in this country?” People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Thank you SO much for devoting your time and energy to make that rebuttal. On a different but related subject, Did you ever hear the speech Farakkhan delivered at the 'almost' million man march? I think it was about 2.5 hours long, and he started to go on about how the number 19 was so important in the history of American racism (he's into numerology). The 2nd and 17th president... This part of his philosophy gets a pass from most Dan Blather and others, along with his many racist statements. I think Farakkhan is a racist, and nuts.
